I have experience with several tailors offering custom suits and was looking for a local place after a relocation to the area. I wasn't comfortable at the suit fitting and I walked away feeling anxious about it. The suit itself seems poorly built. It wrinkles in a lot of places it shouldn't. Specifically the crotch and shoulders/back of the arms are a mess. The suit is not flattering and seems like it was made for someone with a heavier body type. After revisions, it was difficult to continue to commit time to the process. The back of the arms did not improve. Finally there is a limited window to make changes without additional cost. I travel for work and am often out of town, they declined to extend the window for me. Ultimately I spent quite a bit of money and time on a suit that I don't wear and sits in my closet as a reminder of how not to buy a suit. read more

I needed dress shirts for work, meetings, and job interviews. I have always bought shirts from brand names but they never manage to fit me well, look good, or fashion a design that I liked. It was always either too big, too long or too short and the selection was very limited. I was first introduced to 9 Tailors by a friend, Celia, who works there. I was a little nervous about getting a shirt, but I had a completely satisfactory experience with the services and wide range of selection and styles. The dress shirts are spectacular, they fit my body well. The shirts always make me look great no matter what because I design the shirts and receive great advice from the staff. I will never go anywhere else, the shirts are perfect for work, meetings, and social settings. The 9 Tailors staff is FANTASITIC. Don't go here. I didn't buy anything or even do a fitting but didn't need to determine their level of professionalism, quality, and service. So it started out with wanting to find a place where I could get a bespoke or good mtm shirt and suiting. I narrowed it down to Ascot Chang in nyc (which would entail a long wait for an appointment in addition to multiple trips for fitting .) or 9tailors right here in Boston. Decided to give 9Tailors a chance based off of multiple good reviews, convenience, and what appeared to be good value. Booked an appt and got an email from Michelle C to confirm. Since I don't know too much about 9Tailors I asked Michelle about the quality of their fabric and their overall product. She explained how 9Tailors is not full bespoke with select cuffs and collars options but does start their cut from scratch. I then asked about their fabrics for both wool and cotton, also asking about the different mills that they procure from. I think she tried to answer the best she could by saying that they procure from all over the world... which is great but it would have been more helpful if i knew which mills since differences in quality range vastly from mill to mill even if both are from "Italy". Additionally, I asked the quality of their cotton, such as what the thread and ply count was and if their egyptian cotton was els (extras long staple) or ls (long staple). Surprisingly she knew that their cotton was ls but either didn't know or ignored the thread and ply question. I then proceeded to ask if they could source from thomas mason or albini (both carry els cotton), because even if its "egyptian cotton", ls cotton is inferior to els cotton in both durability and softness, in my opinion at least. She subsequently replied Jcrew has thomas mason. Which lead me to cancel my appointment. I think it's fair that I at least ask about the quality of the fabric and if they could accommodate me if I wanted something better, since other shops can and do accommodate such requests. Instead, I got a passive response of go to Jcrew. Nothing against Jcrew, but If I was only concerned about fabric and didn't care about fit and construction I would have already gone there. I can not say anything about the quality of their construction and fit of their clothes, but given my experience so far I would say it would be dubious at best. Maybe Michelle was right, jcrew just might have the better fabric, fit, and construction. Why go bespoke when you have jcrew. read more

My partner and I had a really nice time getting fitted at 9tailors for our wedding. The staff immediately made us comfortable, even though we'd never been fitted for a suit before and didn't know what to expect. They were very polite and respectful, as well as knowledgable about making suits specifically for women. They made a point of asking how masculine or feminine we wanted to present, and generally made us feel welcome and like we belonged there. Plus, their work is gorgeous! We'd highly recommend them to anyone, but particularly if you're a woman and/or lgbtq person, or are just plain nervous about your first fancy-custom-clothes-buying experience. read more

I am so glad to have found 9 Tailors - I'm a law student and recently discovered how hard it is to find professional clothes that fit properly. I had a good experience ordering button-up shirts and am excited to try them on when they're finished. Shirts made from their base fabrics are on par with JCrew prices, minus the additional cost of alterations, and everything about the shirt is customizable. This was my first custom suit experience and I am never going back to regular suits (I'm talking to you Jos Banks). The girls at 9tailors (especially Alex) were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgable about the process. I purchased a 3-piece custom suit and a shirt for my wedding using a Gilt City deal ($400) and felt like million bucks wearing it. I seriously got as many compliments for my suit as my wife got for her wedding dress. There were a total of 2 fittings (30 min each) and the suit took 4 weeks to arrive. The fit is absolutely amazing (European) and the fabric (240) feels great (not too heavy, but not too light). These guys are seriously pros and I would highly recommend 9tailors to anyone! read more

I went to 9tailors for my first custom suit jacket. They could not have been accommodating! Michelle was great and helped me pick out the perfect jacket for my beach wedding. There was a mistaking in shipping the jacket and it was not at the store when I went to pick it up. I was very nervous because I was flying out the next day to Aruba for my wedding. The owner Samantha could not have been more apologetic and arranged to fly Michelle to Aruba to hand deliver the jacket on time. I have never once had a bad experience. Sam is always there and on top of everything. The attention to detail is fantastic. I hadn't shown up for almost half a year and she still remembered my choices from last time I had a shirt made. I've now had three shirts, two suits and a jacket made. Although I don't have nearly the level of experience or sophistication with regards to men's clothing as another reviewer on here, I did follow his advice and stuck with the custom made shirts rather than the suits and was very happy with the results. My first shirt was delivered yesterday and it felt so trim and luxurious, as if it had been made in Italy. Not one inch of extra fabric anywhere, and the convertible sleeves allow me to choose French cuffs or standard cuffs to suit my whim. I was pleased with the price and with the measuring and fitting process, as well as the convenient downtown location near my office. While picking up the shirt, I asked for and received some excellent guidance on the proper tie to accompany my unconventional color choices (deep red shirt with black buttons, and a pale pink shirt with ivory buttons). read more

Can't say good enough things about the high level of customer service. I had a suit and two shirts made for my wedding a couple of weeks ago. The staff is so friendly, they listen and are VERY attentive. The garments turned out so great that after the wedding I placed an order for two more shirts for work seamlessly over the phone in two minutes. I look forward to picking them up in a couple weeks. You will pay more compared to a Men's Warehouse, Indochino, Jos A Bank etc, however the experience makes it well worth the difference. read more

Had a decent experience, but wasn't 100% satisfied. Everyone was very friendly and the shop is very nice. The suit came out very tight and needed 3 different alterations (leg length, waist, chest). The chest for instance had to be taken out to the very maximum of the jacket, and my alterations person warned me not to gain a single pound *gulp! Sent in the receipt for the alterations but am still waiting for the reimbursement. It'll be $125 total in alterations but they only offer $50 reimbursement. My contact person is a bit slow with responding to emails. After all the alterations, the suit looks quite good for the most part. It came out a bit tighter than I was hoping for and cannot be altered any further. I'm debating coming back for my next suit, but I'm still not sure. EDIT: Even though the suit wasn't perfect the first go-around, they've expressed their strong commitment to making sure it's perfect the second time, and they've given me several options to make it right. Second update: they remade the suit and it's perfect. read more

My entire life I've searched for clothes that fit me the way I want them too. I have wide shoulders, and arched back, a wide chest, a slim waist, and a big-ish butt and large thighs: I'm an athletic guy who has been playing soccer for 20+ years. I hate shirts that are just drape-like boxes that hang from the shoulder. I hate the blousiness that I've consistently found the back of most shirts have. Anything targeted as "slim" is either too small in the shoulders/chest or too wide and baggy everywhere else. Basically: I hate clothes that don't fit well, and those that do are hard to come by stock. Several years ago I bought a jacket because I'm in my 20s and every other weekend someone is getting married. It didn't fit well, and soon I grew frustrated. I decided to get a full suit from JCrew that fit better (still not great). Then I got annoyed again. So. I started looking around the Boston area to see where I could get a suit and some nice shirts that actually fit me well, and also ones that would were made of nice materials. I found 9tailors. Sam walked me through the entire process - I'm very indecisive, and it probably took twice as long as her other customers. She was awesome and patient and knowledgeable. When the suit and shirts came in, I couldn't believe how awesome they looked and how great I felt wearing them. None of the problems above could I find in any of the garments I was wearing. There is no question that I will be back to 9tailors in the future. read more

I worked with several of the girls at 9 tailors when choosing a custom shirt, and had a pleasant experience with them all. Other reviewers suggest Sam is the only person to take a good measurement, but based on my experience, I can vouch that is not the case. The measurement process works great, and they were flexible with scheduling. The supply of fabrics, styles and cuts are plentiful, w/ no chance they don't have what you want in that dept. You must wait 4 to 5 weeks, which they are VERY clear on, until you receive the final product, which is the only drawback (no instant gratification). I was impressed and have gotten several compliments from friends, so much so that I have ordered add'l shirts. The beauty about 9 Tailors is once they measure you the first time, and you like that fit, you can order via phone, or a quick peruse in their catalog and have new custom shirts in 4 weeks starting at $70. You can't even get an avg. shirt at BB, Pink, CK for that. Keep up the good work girls. read more

I just bought my second suit here, and after another excellent experience, I had to write a review. Given my size, it's hard for me to find suits that fit off the rack, so I first tried 9tailors about a year ago. They have a ton of different options for fabrics and styles, which was a bit overwhelming at first, but Sam worked with me to figure out what I liked and suggested a number of options that looked great. The finished product fit perfectly on the first try, but they offer free alterations, if you need to make any adjustments. After my first suit, I referred a friend, who bought a suit and shirt for his wedding. He liked the fit of the shirt so much that he wound up ordering a few more in different colors. read more

A custom shirt for the price is a tremendous deal for any guys out there that are particular or just want something different so they don't look like every other guy out on Saturday night. I'm not going to lie to you, a friend of mine works at 9tailors, that's how I know of them at all. And they had to remake a pair of pants because a measurement got mixed up in production somewhere. They were complete champs about it, and they got the pants remade perfectly within a week so I could still wear the suit to my friends wedding. I have one three piece suit from 9tailors, one custom shirt, and one more on the way. The custom shirts are a huge deal for me since I have a thick neck that makes anything off the rack fit like a tent. The suit fits like a glove. I wore it to a wedding this summer and got so many compliments on the thing I actually started to feel a little embarrassed. I wore the vest and shirt with a pair of jeans to work and my boss's first words were "I feel like I should be working for you". The staff is great, friendly, and detail oriented. As I said before, and as you can read in some of these other reviews, mistakes can happen but that's true anywhere. Should they happen, this team really steps up to the plate. Note: I have no previous ties to anyone running this business. They weren't friends prior to me coming into their shop, so I feel no compulsion to 'sugarcoat' my review. I've been a "client" for 2 years now. Have had 2 custom-made suits (khaki for summer, blue for all-seasons) from them, as well as a shirt, and love all of them! I picked up one of the Gilt Groupe coupons, and implored my friend to as well, this past Spring. We ended up going in, getting suits built for us, and chatting with Kim and Sam for 45 minutes. Visiting them is a pleasure, and walking out with something you love to wear is icing on the cake. I recently brought a colleague of mine to a ''Sample Sale'', and he ended up picking up a blazer for less than $150 all-in, including slight tailor alterations that needed to be done. The fit is excellent, they work with you from the get-go to enable you to personalize your suit/shirts/pants/etc, giving you the sense that you're wearing something that no one else is. Between piping, monogramming, different button/lapel options and the 'Cut'...Every time I wear my blue suit, it fits like a broken-in glove, and I feel fantastic. We used 9tailors to outfit our wedding party/immediate family and they did a very nice job. I've purchased both bespoke and made to measure suits from other vendors in the past and appreciated both the level of service and the quality of craftsmanship provided by 9tailors. We worked with Michelle and Sam to obtain suits for me, living here in Boston, and some other family members living in Colorado. Both Michelle and Sam were very helpful in coordinating measurements and timelines given the out of town logistics and the eventual wedding deadline. The suits themselves are well made and offer a degree of customization on par or better than many other suiting options (Indochino, MySuit, etc..). My wife and I found that the quality and the selection of fabrics was far more extensive at 9tailors than some of the other businesses noted above. Given that we were outfitting a wedding party, the variety made 9tailors particularly appealing. All told, they are reasonably priced for custom suits, albeit more expensive than made to measure options like Indochino (but this should be expected). Furthermore, we found the level of service and the broad selection of fabrics made 9tailors the right choice for our wedding attire. Thanks for all of your help! read more

The professionalism was great, the turn around time was short and the final fit was perfect. In my opinion, the best part about the whole experience was her honesty and listening abilities. If something didn't look good, she told us in the best way and steered us in a direction to something that looked great but was also what we envisioned. Got a suit made here. The first tailor that did my measurement didn't seem too focused. She did help me go through the process of choosing my style, fabrics, and other options. When the suit arrived, the fit was a bit off in the waist and thigh areas. During the fitting, I was assigned another tailor whom was much more detailed with checking out measurements. End result was a perfectly fitting suit that was also comfortable. Both times I had to wait an additional 20-30 minutes despite having an appointment. They do offer complementary drinks while you wait though. read more

I can write a bunch of words here, but in truth, you just have to experience this for yourself to truly appreciate it. What I will say is this: imagine hundreds of fabric samples that can become your own custom, fitted shirt. You design it - right down to the buttons, the accents, even the collar. The shirt is fitted specifically to your body. The price is very reasonable for this high end bespoke-type service. What's more the service is excellent. Sam, one of 9T's owners is fantastic, and I cannot say enough about my consultant, Sergio. In fact, if you decide to have a custom shirt made (they do custom suits too!), ask for Sergio. Friendly, fun, but thoroughly professional, Sergio has really managed the process for me very well, and has made it relaxed and enjoyable. It was a fabric c Sergio brought to my attention that actually became the fabric choice for my second custom shirt.
