Usually I'm really opposed to chain restaurants. The 99 blows all other chains away - it has always been and will always be one of my favorite places to eat in Andover. The food is affordable, fresh, and well made. You are always served popcorn (sometimes crackers and cheese) when you sit at the bar or table. Staff is always friendly and personable. Their Horseshoe Lager is bomb. Drink it. Tall glasses of beer are served in a large, frozen mug - the ideal way to drink nearly any beer. Boneless Buffalo wings are tasty, crisp, light with a hint of spicy. My favorite has always been the chicken broccoli and ziti meal. The only alfredo I'll eat as I find most either two heavy or too salty or too something. Go to the 99. Eat at the 99. Love the 99. read more

I've had this on my fast food bucket list for quite some time so I was glad I could finally come. I ended up getting a burger and fries and a beer and it was a very satisfying meal. Actually had them give me sample pores which was very nice and thoughtful of my waitress. That way I could decide exactly which beer I wanted to get and I'm not even a big beer person. Everything in the place was clean. They give you complimentary popcorn which was very addictive and even gave me more when they saw mine was empty. And yes I did eat it all because it was just that buttery good lol. Over the past 4-5 years, the 99 Restaurant on Rt 133 in Andover has gone from "great" to "awful". During that time, the restaurant chain was purchased by O'Charley's Inc., a Nashville, TN-based restaurant chain who proceeded to totally slash and burn the menu, eliminating such thing as FISH-N-CHIPS and other "awful" (kidding here) dishes. What they did was to substitute Halibut for COD, only "half cooked" French fries (Chips to an Englishman), etc. We continued to try them on a semi-regular basis hoping for a miracle - so far we've been disappointed. The last time we went there, my hamburger was delivered SO OVERCOOKED that you could have used the meat for shoe leather without a worry in the world that it would ever go "soft" on you - that bad. My wife's ONION SOUP landed COOL on our table - so we said to ourselves, "there goes another 99 experience". If you like to "experiment" with eating at this restaurant, we're sure to do as we continue to do visiting/trying again and again the food selection there. Based on the number of cars I see parked in front of the restaurant at lunchtime and even coming home from Boston in the early evening, the public already knows what my wife and I know. This O'Charley's Chain Restaurant is not likely to succeed and, probably, will cease operations within a year or so. Too bad the chain was sold to O'Charley's. They don't seem to understand that New Englanders want/need good food at a reasonable cost that doesn't vary every time you come to eat - or to have a friendly get together with friends over a drink. It used to be so great - good food, friendly people including management that stayed "years" and you could get to know them, waitstaff that knew their job (and did it well) and a menu that any New Englander would appreciate. Always get the best quality food. My personal favorites are the full turkey dinners when available, followed by the Mac-n-cheese with Buffalo fingers. The Vermont maple cheese burger and the steak tips also can't be beat. Lastly, the baked haddock is fantastic. read more

I go to multiple 9s. Our server was good. The food was normal for your average 9s. The place was definitely smaller and more snug then normal 9s but I thought it was cute. The menus that we were given were dirty and sticky. The floors needed to be sweeps. The bathrooms were a bit run down. Me and my family went here for an early Christmas get together. Our waiter was very nice, and everyone was very friendly.. however when I received my meal I found a black hair in the gravy of my mashed potatoes (we are all blonde so it wasn't from us). The waiter apologized and brought me a soup while they made me a new meal, which I was perfectly happy with! Same great tasting food as the other 99 restaurants I have been to. This locations is probably the smallest one I've seen. I really like that the menu is huge and there is plenty to pick from. I've probably tried everything on the menu at least once by now and they do have seasonal specials. We always come back because the prices are reasonable. I ordered food to go the other day for my family. I got a dessert for each of us including one for my two year old son. Luckily he didn't feel like eating it the other day so I put it in the fridge. Last night I decided to eat it instead. I took a few bites and thought maybe a piece of frosting had hardened while in the fridge. To my disgust I found a staple in my mouth. All I can say is thank god my toddler didn't want dessert that night. The Andover branch needs to get it's act together. This could have ended very badly. I've stumbled on this 99 twice cutting from 93 to 495 or vice-versa. Both times it was around dinner-time, I was starting to think about food and ( ! ) there it was. It pops up, just kind of there all by itself on rt. 133. This location is small and the parking is pretty much inadequate if the place is full. I try not to eat at the chains too often, but sometimes I'm just more interested in a known quantity when it's been a long day... What I've gotten both times I've eaten here: Fish Tacos. I haven't run across them anywhere else in Mass and they do an acceptable job on them. This location has been heavy handed with the Cilantro, easy enough to pick off, but you don't load up a Taco with Cilantro as if it's Lettuce. Unless you're fond of heartburn-serve with a side of Pepcid AC. read more

The food is always good here. Drinks can use a little work-it's on the light side and I felt like I wasn't getting my money's worth for an alcoholic beverage. Anyway, after my first drink not meeting up to expectation, the next time I went there I just ordered a soda. Go there for the food! Simply LOVE this restaurant! I have stopped in a few times and have NEVER been disappointed. By far, the sirloin tips and baked schrod have impressed me the most, with both having repeat orders on my trips back to New England. This was my second time here (first time for dinner) and was with a party of 5. I ordered off the $9.99 signature menu and chose to pay the extra $3.49 to make it an entree (choice of soup or salad and a desert). The food was great, but took forever to not only receive, but to order. For an appetizer we shared the boneless wings and the potato skins. They were delicious, but we received the wrong sauce that we had requested. For a meal I opted with the balsamic chicken and my two sides were rice and broccoli. My salad was a Caesar and for desert I opted with vanilla ice cream. The reason for the low rating had more to do with the speed of service. We were low on beverages and took forever to be refilled. Also, it took us about 15 minutes to receive our appetizer, after waiting 5-10 minutes to place it and we didn't even have a chance to place our order until just before the appetizer came out. read more

The staff is really what makes us coming back. This location has a great set of people (Sass, Sam, Kelsey and others) They are so wonderful and so so sweet and always working hard!!! Several months ago I met one of the managers, her name is Soraya Pascoal. Soraya is an excellent manager. Absolute top notch manager service from her and some of the best I experienced. Soraya constantly checked in on us to make sure we are taken care of and if we weren't, she would have made sure that we were of. We were greeted and seated promptly. It felt more like a neighborhood diner where the staff knew customers. Our waitress was fantastic! She gave good suggestions, and always kept the water glass full without me asking! I had the Prime Rib Panini $7.99... would highly suggest this! Only available sometimes.
