This is the best 99 restaurant around. Certainly worth driving passed other locations to get to. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Being vegan it's hard to find a chain restaurant with any options or willing to accommodate your diet. My friend and her husband are regulars here so we headed next door for lunch. We looked over the menu and told the waitress about my predicament and asked for another few minutes. Shortly after the manager came over and offered to make my daughter and I items that were not on the menu. Our made to order hummus and grilled veggie wraps were fantastic and the service was excellent! We will definitely go back to 99 the next time we're in town! read more

Let's fix this. I was a fan. Their "call ahead" seating policy is now "Call ahead, come on down, and start the wait when you get here." Wish they had told me before I "came on down." I am unlikely to be back anytime soon. But here is what I used to think: (4 stars.) I am definitely a fan. I got Ninety Nine problems, but this restaurant ain't one... Pretty soon, it seems my monthly sojourns to the Greater Lowell area will be ending. And what will I miss the most? Honestly, not much! But THIS particular Ninety Nine is on the list. Not sure I have 99 reasons I love it, but here are 9 (in keeping with the whole "nine" theme): 1 - Free popcorn!! Who cares if I need to floss half of it out of my teeth later on! 2 - Options of 16oz or 24oz beers!! I usually get the large Blue Moon and it hits the spot. 3 - The boneless wings and skins sampler platter. YUM. Comfort food like this is why I have a soft spot for some chain restaurants. This particular appetizer does not disappoint. The quesadilla is bangin good too! 4 - Healthy fit options with calorie counts, for those looking to prepare for bikini season. 5 - Servers like Cindy and Desiree, always smiling and friendly and quick. Cindy cracks us up. 6 - Polite and unmenacing Redsox fans - maybe due to a more civilized Andover crowd!? This Yankees fan appreciates not getting indigestion when a 'Sox game is on. 7 - The super affordable options. This place is VERY fairly priced. Way more preferable to the Longhorn down the road! Big portions (unless you order from the fit menu...duh). Food is pretty standard but done well. 8 - The menu changes fairly frequently, so just when you think you'll be tired of the same items, they change it up on you. 9 - You almost drive right past the place, as its nestled in between 2 residential houses, and a horse farm. Makes it cozy. Feels more like a neighborhood mom'n pop place done well, rather than a chain. So, if you're near exit 39 on 495, skip the Longhorn for this little gem 1 mile further east down the road! I shall miss you Ninety Nine of Andover. read more

wow! don't virtually hit me, but being in the boondocks of andover for business, i didn't expect to find such a decent restaurant out here. my colleague and i dropped by for dinner, and i was pleasantly surprised by the free popcorn, the not bad spinach & artichoke dip, the good sweet potato fries, and the absolutely delicious hot lobster roll on soft but toasted and buttery white bread. the drinks could've been stronger (strawberry mojito), but hey, for $6.49 a pop, i'm not complaining. plus, overall price was great: we had 1 appetizer, two drinks a person, an entree for me and an appetizer/$9.99 entree/dessert for her, plus another dessert for me (ah, company expense account, how i love thee), and the bill only came to $70! now THAT'S a steal. i'd be happy to come back! read more

We are staying at a nearby hotel without a restaurant and 99 has been a perfect place to rest and relax after long days of sightseeing. The service has been great on both visits, the prices reasonable, and the food very good. Our kids are still talking about the chocolate chip cookie skillet dessert! Soups good portions, served hot, Fish ok, fries ok, yet barely warm, not really crispy, wedge salad dressing good w tomatoes, bacon,yet lettuce edges frozen. Service friendly, attentive. This 99 is more like Cheers than a restaurant chain. We had great service from Cindy, free popcorn, delicious cajun shrimp dinner, complimentary drink refills and reasonable prices. What could be better? Not all 99's are the same, but this one ranks very high on the list. read more

After a long day traveling around Maine and then exploring the city of Boston, our family of 7 were searching for a late night meal. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a restaurant where all of us could agree on until we decided to give the 99 a try. When we entered, we were quickly greeted and the manager promptly put together a table for us. Our server Cindy was a blast and just one of the many friendly staff members there. She was speedy and loaded with positive energy. We even discussed just going back to have her as our server again. In terms of the food, no one left hungry. The food was great and reasonably priced. To top it all off, Cindy even surprised my father with a birthday sundae which ended the meal on an even higher note. If are ever in the area again we'll be sure to stop in. read more

visit: Sept.6, 2014, Saturday 5:45 p.m. family of 4 for dinner We live just over a mile from this 99, and we've been there about 20 times. Half the time, service is good, the other half it is poor. This time it was beyond awful and this will be our last visit to this 99. This is also my first entry to Yelp, to give you an idea of how fed up we are with this place. My wife ordered a summer strawberry/blueberry salad. I ordered the tropical chicken salad and seafood chowder. The waitress also talked us into ordering a dessert while we ordered the entrees. Our 5-year old twins ordered the child's chicken fingers with apple sauce. These children's meals also come with an ice cream sandwich. The food is what you would expect from a 99, nothing great, but okay. The restaurant was not all that busy and the manager later admitted to us that our server only had 2 other tables. The server gave us some stale popcorn, which we devoured while waiting about 15 minutes for the chowder, which is supposed to be served hot, but was cold. The chowder was probably good before it was cold, but the waitress was nowhere to be found so we just ate it. Thankfully it came with crackers which almost held my children over for another twenty minutes until their cold chicken fingers (three strips for each child) arrived. My hungry son complained that they were "too chewy and hard" and that he could not eat them. I tried to make them edible by drenching them in ketchup. The salads were ok, again what you'd expect for the money. All the while, we neatly stacked the dirty dishes -- popcorn bowl, chowder plate and bowl, empty apple sauce containers, empty water cup, etc. -- on the edge of the table (where they sat until we later left). My wife and I ate the salads, the kids ate their applesauce, but could not really eat the chicken, and I couldn't blame them. So we told them to hang on and they could just eat their ice cream sandwiches: ordinarily we don't give them dessert unless they eat their food but this was an exception. We sat...5 minutes...10 minutes...15 minutes...our waitresses was working on the table next to us, but we could not get her attention. We were not rude to her or anything, as we assumed that she must have her hands full. Eventually the manager came over to our table, perhaps noticing that we were sitting still at the table covered with dirty, mostly empty dishes, not eating. He asked us if everything was okay, and we said that we were waiting on dessert and offered an excuse for the waitress, saying that she seemed really busy. That is when he shook his head and said, "No, she's not, she only has three tables." The restaurant was not busy, we were just trying to act understanding. There's more... We told the manager that we had to leave (as it was after 7 p.m.), and just wanted the check and the kids' ice cream sandwiches to go. We also mentioned that we had ordered a dessert but that it never came. I said that we no longer cared about that dessert, because it was getting late and that all we wanted was the check and the kids' sandwiches. He left. A few minutes later, as I was going through my wallet planning to just leave an estimate for the tab on the table, miraculously the waitress showed up and asked if there was anything else we needed. We again asked for the check and the ice cream sandwiches to go. She returned shortly with the check and the "desserts" as she explained. She apologized for "not coming back right away." Really? It was a more of an insult than an apology. When we arrived home, we opened the bag to find...something. It was a 2"x2" something in a small paper soup cup. I'm not even sure it was ours. We opened the container to find this square...dessert, I guess...but it had some green mold or something mixed in the parts of the glaze. Of course we did not eat it. What I think really happened is that she was upset at us for telling the manager that she was taking so long, and so she tried to get us back by pulling something out of the trash and bagging it up for us. I wished we did not leave her the $5 tip (on a $30 tab, yes I know, I don't know why we tipped her either! It's just that I worked for 15 years in food service so I am always sympathetic no matter what). What was more unbelievable was that she did not put the sandwiches in the bag! My daughter -- again, 5 years old -- said that "we told them 6 times to give us the sandwiches to go!" So I drove back to the restaurant. They did not apologize. The hostess simply went to the kitchen, got the sandwiches, and handed them to me without a word. I informed her that we live nearby but will never be back! read more

Not bad for "boring suburban food" type place. Some days, for one reason or another, you don't feel like ethnic food, or perhaps you just want to watch a game. 99 restaurant provides you traditional suburban burgers, fries, etc. I actually had the swordfish special, which was phenomenal. read more

Wife and I decided to try this place out since we hadn't tried this chain before. I had the Moscow Mule with Grey Goose served in a copper cup. It was really good. Just the right amount of ginger beer and vodka. My wife ordered the sirloin. I ordered the prime rib. Server returned that they were out of the prime rib. I was disappointed since it was only 5:30. My second choice was the haddock. I substituted fries for the rice. It was fantastic, made me glad they were out of my first choice. It was flaky and tender. Fries were piping hot and crisp. As chains go, 99 is at the top of my list. Service and servers are consistently good and the food never disappoints.

I call it the littlest 99. It's typical 99 fare near where I work. I usually will run in and always sit at the bar to catch the end of a game or have a quick beer and appetizer. I've gone to many 99's where the bartenders are super-friendly and personable. A few times I've gone here I think I just happened to catch them on a bad day. The male bartender was either cranky or seemed a little sarcastic. Another time, the female bartender was really snippy for no apparent reason. However, I do remember once that after we removed a newer appetizer from our order,(dieting reasons!) the manager came over with a small sample, free of charge to show us what we were missing. I thought that was really sweet of her. All in all its a good place when you catch 'em on a good day. read more

This restaurant states that they have items that are on the menu when we ask to order then return and say they do not have the item. This happened on 3 different items. I wish the kitchen would regularly inform their servers about the menu choices. Very poor management. read more

I usually like going to the 99, but this location has slow service. When I first walked in, there were several tables open and the lady told us to wait 5-10 minutes. When I got to my table, I ordered a drink. The drink took so long that I was ready to order when I got it. I was going to get dessert, but it took so long to get the check that I decided to get my dessert elsewhere. I don't want to come back here. read more

Very disappointing visit. We usually go to the Andover 99 when we want to have a quick meal, knowing we can trust reasonable quality and friendly service. We were there last night, and right off the bat it felt wrong. The table was wet, some crumbs on the side, we were not offered popcorn (no big deal) and we had to ask for napkins and silverware. We ordered our drinks and dinner dishes, and the seafood chowder to share as a starter. The chowder arrived with one spoon (again, no big deal) but it was a thick potato mash, with just a handful of clams, nothing else. When the server came to ask how the chowder was, we mentioned that it was disappointing for not having anything in it other than a couple of clams and potatoes so she called the manager. The manager insisted that we were wrong, that there was plenty of seafood in the chowder. We told him that we are not asking to remove it from the bill or for another cup, we just wanted to point out to the kitchen that it was not what we expect a seafood chowder to be. He again insisted that the chowder was just fine. Oh well... No "sorry that it didn't meet your expectations, we will look into it"... Our dinners arrived. Mine was just okay. I had the veggie burger. The patty was quite dry, but since the 99 Restaurant is not where I expect to find superb Gourmet food that was okay for me. My husband had the Twin catch. It was tasty but so small... barely a portion to feed a toddler. Overall, a disappointing experience. Everyone and every restaurant can have a bad day, but the manager could have made it right to us. It was the attitude of the manager that made us not want to come back. A classic example of winning the battle but losing the war. read more

We had an outstanding experience at the 99! We had a short wait and when we were seated the staff were just wonderful with my 2 small children! They got the kids' food out quickly and were very friendly and talkative with them. I ordered a burger and it was delicious and well seasoned and cooked. The kids' food was great and more than enough for them. Dining with small kids was so much fun and easy here! read more

After 30 years of eating at restaurants, I thought I'd seen it all... But no. I ordered the "Prime Rib." These clowns actually tried to serve me Corned Beef Brisket as Prime Rib! Amaizing. And after I sent it back, I asked for a burger, medium rare. They brought me a burger that was so well done it was like a hockey puck. Luckily, the Manager came out and apologized, taking them both off the bill. Kudos to her. At least she tried to do the right thing. These are great restaurants, in general. Sit at the bar, keep your choice simple, have a draught beer, and enjoy. Craving a steak, I headed for this 99 at lunch. Me and my friend met there for dinner and drinks last weekend. We sat at the bar. It was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant. The entire staff was on edge. The bartenders, servers, cooks. They literally were all so unprofessional. They were all in horrible moods, arguing with each other, bad mouthing each other, swearing and yelling at each other. I was so uncomfortable. The servers would yell at the cooks, cooks yelling back, with no regard to customers eating in their restaurant. I have been a server for 7+ years and never have I ever seen a crew act and behave in such a way. So much disrespect towards one another and worst of all.. In front of customers!! I was appalled! We ordered nachos and surprise surprise.....they were cold! No one wanted to be there. This one older woman was the worst. Swearing non stop, I mean this crew couldn't have been more obnoxious, annoying, disrespectful. The bartenders at one point, left the bar and were gone for a good solid 7 minutes. If I could give a negative start I would! Awful awful experience and safe to say will never return. This restaurant needs to get their S*it together. read more

We are visiting from out of town. It was late and we had just arrived at our hotel, so I looked on Yelp for a place with decent reviews to get dinner, and 99 Restaurants fit the bill. We ordered takeaway. The Cobb Salad was delicious - the asparagus cooked to perfection. The fish and chips were tasty. We enjoyed our meal so much that the next night, exhausted from site seeing, we placed another order. Same Cobb Salad, because it's amazing, and two orders of Royal Sirloin Steak - they were cooked perfectly. The waitstaff is wonderful and personable; they made sure we had "silverware" and dressing for salads. The only mishap (which I hesitate to mention but I want to acknowledge it was resolved) was a forgotten extra baked potato that was ordered. Courtney apologized and kindly and graciously corrected the situation. Exemplary customer service. So much so, I am compelled to write my first review. read more

I live right down the street from this restaurant and have frequently ordered takeout. After getting my order wrong the last handful of times, I'm done going here. The first few times, I called back after realizing that my order was missing items or was not prepared the right way. A gift card was sent, apologies given, etc. I don't want gift cards for more wrong food and or missing items. The last straw was when I ordered a salad and a baked potato last week and the salad was missing several ingredients that always come on/with it and the baked potato was MIA (which I paid for). I didn't bother calling back this time because I won't be giving them my business anymore. It's as if the employees running takeout couldn't care less about their customers or the food going into the plastic containers. The food is probably fine if you go in to sit down but if you're looking for takeout, stay away. read more
