Three teenagers, vaping weed in the parking lot, scared us away. You're at the 99 Cent store looking to wash windshields for money? At The 99 Cent store??? You'd be better off at a gas station or a higher end store. This place needs parking lot security. What happens when you say no thanks and disappear into the store? Will my car get jacked with? Maybe. I'll never know tho' because as soon as we parked and saw the rats approaching, we reversed and got out. I appreciate people trying to work but that overwhelming weed stank that wafted through my window didn't encourage me to let anyone from this lot touch my car. Well before you even walk in you're greeted by tons of panhandlers , then once you get in the store it has such an awful smell . And the 99 cent store should change there name to 99 cents or more , most of the stuff there now is over a dollar , and most of the stuff isn't worth it . I almost always shop close to closing because I have a weak immune system, most employees are busy cleaning up from what I can only imagine happens during the day. I'm always greeted with pleasantries & a smile, Thanks! 5 STARS I forgot my wallet on one visit and they waited for me to go home and come back past closing. read more

So nice to see that most people appreciate the store. Every time I have been in the store the workers have always been helpful and polite even tho sometimes VERY busy. Yes, there are some things that can be improved on. Every business has a spot that can be improved upon. The major problem I'm not sure the store can be blamed for - - the loitering out in front. I saw one of the employees try to keep one of the guys out of the store and I believe he would have attacked her if there hadn't been so many customers right there. He called, yelled, numerous foul insults at her! She was about in tears and he refused to leave. Maybe some 'NO LOITERING' signs & a uniform in plain sight is an answer. This is an issue in ALL of Barstow not only this store. All-In-All I give the store a major thumbs up. Thank-You for your efforts, keep up the good work. I went in there just to get a few essentials and looking for mail clippers, yet when I was getting ready to leave i was rudely and embarrassed at The Way a worker talked to me, I'm a single mom two babies and was on only little sleep just gotten off of work, I forgot to completely look under my stroller after putting stuff away i paid for and almost walked out with two unpaid items, i handed them back to a rude woman!! I was ashamed and never have i ever been so embarrassed or humiliated. Instead of kindly pulling me to The side not one but The workers gathered around me like they were going to jump me for a mistake i made, I felt unsafe. I apologized from my heart and they rolled their eyes and i left i am never going back again they lost a customer. read more

Called the store asking if they were hiring. Asked what the starting pay rate was and got told to go ask online by a female cashier. She hung up on me! Then, I called back and the same lady answered the phone. I asked to speak to a manager, she didnt know that I wasnt on hold because she was talking sh*t. Got hung up on again. Called back a 3rd time, and ask to speak to a manager again. Got placed on hold and she gave the phone to another cashier. I asked her what the starting pay rate was and she passed the phone over to another associate, a male this time. I asked him what the starting pay rate was and he told me "minimum wage", I proceeded to ask him what that "minimum wage" was since Im not from around there. He said it again and hung up on me. I called back again...same lady from the first time answered and I asked to speak to a manager, she told me all the managers were too busy and to call back later and hung up on me again. Just letting you a**holes know, I am calling corporate. Learn some customer service skills and kindness. None of you had an answer, let alone etiquette. I will get your names as well. Went to the 99 cent store to buy just a simple light bulb I looked around like crazy but when I asked for some assistance from a girl who worked there she gave me the brush off like as if was some type of homeless person bagging for money which is far from the truth in an average I spend $100 a month at this store the reason being this store is getting a three star hopefully this store employee realizes the error her way if not she should formulate a New job because clearly the customer service industry is not for her. read more

RUDE! Disrespectful, unprofessional, unsafe I don't understand who is running this sh-t show. The managers are the most unprofessional people in the building. They don't even enforce mask use or social distancing, starting with the managers. Walking around with no mask, coughing and EATING on the sales floor. When you need help dont even bother, they are rude and so lost. Won't be able to direct you. Slow and inattentive to their costumers. This store really needs to shut down!! read more

I went there today , I asked an employee where the peanuts were , she didn't even know what peanuts were , the cashier was very rude !!!! they need to close that store . Decent place...decent products...decent produce. The customers are somewhat shady. The employees are decent. The only problem is they NEVER have enough checkers/cashiers. The best time to go is right when it opens, after 11am you will be stuck in one of two lines...yes only 2 cashiers...smh read more

One of the good stores here is this location is the 99 Cents Only Stores. Love coming here for cheap prices and variety. They have new value stocks every month, always into season and holidays, nice produce and grocery, and home goods. I give one star less because floor is old and dirty and bathrooms are need attention. Besides that it's a good store read more

This place doesn't know how to run a business its a joke. The cashiers have to do everything from front to back. There's no employers just hired for stocking while cashiers tend the front. That's why you get stuck always waiting for assistance. If the cashiers are slammed there's no one on the floor to help assist if you have a question. You should hire people pacifically to unload trucks and stock shelves. Another thing the female bathroom being locked is not cool, especially when you have a toddler that has to go, who wants to stand there with their little one for good 15 minutes or so waiting for someone to come. You need to also upgrade your security cameras a ladies purse was stolen the only footage they had was her entering and leaving. You can close down to remodel shelves but you can't upgrade your security what a joke. Oh and another thing change your name your not 99 cents only. You got products in there $1.99 and up you try to secretly rip people off your companies name is false. read more

I went in today just to get a two liter bottle of soda there was three lines open two had long lines the third decided to put up a sign this register is closed this seems to be a continuing problem people not wanting to do there job if it's busy the cashier should of stayed open until the lines went down then took her break or clock out to go home which ever she was in a hurry to do another thing is they need to learn to clean the shelves keep them organized looking nice and things stocked better the place seems like a real joke if it wasn't for the store selling a little produce I would just stick to the dollar store there way more cleaned up and all around nicer looking read more

I've seen some hoods in my lifetime, and this by far is one of the most ghetto ass stores I've ever been to. As I pulled into the parking lot I knew I was in for it when I spotted three different people panhandling in the parking lot. As my son and I jumped out of the car, the smell of pee hit me like a freight train. Heavy enough so, that it made my eyes water a bit. Mind you, it was 82 degrees yesterday, so, do the math. We navigated through the panhandlers, one of which was ambushing people from behind a pillar right outside the store. We spent just enough time inside to get the essentials we wanted. The store is old and you can tell by the way it looks and was stocked. Lots of holes on those shelves. We made it to the checkout in record time, since we usually get sucked in to the place. We payed and got the hell out of dodge. Once inside the car, I realized we forgot to get something. I wasn't going to go back in. Hopefully there's a Target or Walmart here.... read more
