Who knew there used to be a Polo field in Miami Beach!…read more The polo field was enjoyed by millionaires and ran from 11th to 15th streets east of Alton Road. It was located adjacent to Carl Fisher's Nautilus hotel. Today you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue. "The Polo Player" statue was built in 1923 and is still a prominent figure at Polo Park, Miami Beach. This park is one of the oldest in Miami Beach. The land was part of the Flamingo Golf Course, which was built in 1921 for Carl Fisher's hotel. The Northern end of the park was a polo field. A hurricane destroyed the golf course in 1926. The city of Miami Beach purchased the land in 1929. The park was used for boxing matches. An open air theater was built in the park in 1932. The theater was later demolished.

It turns out there once was an actual polo playing field on Miami Beach adjacent to Carl Fisher's Nautilus Hotel. The polo field enjoyed by millionaires ran from 11th to 15th streets east of Alton Road. When you enter the park you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue created in 1923 but today you are more likely to find pickleball than polo. In addition to the the pickleball courts in this spacious 4.6 acre park, Polo Park also has tennis courts, a USE fitness station, basketball courts, a softball field, open field area, walking path, and a shade covered playground for ages 2-5 and 5-12. The playground is fenced in for safety and has poured-in-place rubber surfacing, spring rider, twirl around, and swings. I came during one of South Florida's frequent rainstorms so I had the park to myself except for a gentleman walking around the perimeter for exercise. When the weather is nicer I can easily envision this park filled with fitness enthusiasts. pickle ball players, and kids enjoying the playground.

Miami Beach is built up with a lot of businesses and residential housing. Green spaces are lacking in this area so Stillwater park along with Crespi, and Tatum parks provide much needed recreational resources to the neighborhoods they are in. Stillwater Park is located at the entrance of gated Stillwater Dr. in the Biscayne Beach neighborhood. Stillwater Drive is a single street that is its own neighborhood. Jutting into Biscayne Bay, it is a rectangular peninsula that can be accessed via two streets, 86th Street on the north side and Hawthorne Avenue on the south. This area was once a patch of mangroves that were filled in and developed during the late 1930s by the Biscayne Point Realty Company. Stillwater like much of North Beach exploded after World War II with a boom in population and in housing. A key feature of the park is a playground designed for children ages 5 - 12 with spring riders, a climbing board, zip line, seesaw, toddler and youth swings. Other park amenities include stationary fitness equipment, a lighted basketball court, grassy field for open play, and benches. In 2008 a Miami Beach Police Department Canine Training Facility was added to the park. At the east end of the park stands a covered pavilion which is equipped with water fountains and restrooms. The pavilion can be rented for private events. This park is fenced in for safety. You can find limited parking around the perimeter but it is mainly used by local residents who walk over. Like all of the parks in Miami Beach, Stillwater Park is very clean and well maintained.

One of the team members, Elise or Eli's was locking up the park and doing his search of the park and stumbled upon my wallet. Not only did I not know realize I left my wallet, but Elise took it into his own hands and searched the Aventura data base and called my house to let me know that I left my wallet. If it wasn't for Elise and the staff, I would never have known and would have been frantically searching the next day. However, Elise called around an hour after I left and made sure I retrieved my wallet. So for that I thank you and the staff! The park has always been home for me and my dog. The staff is an extended family that is always helpful and amazing to our community. Aventura park is one of a kind.

One of the highlights of the park is the nature inspired 10,800 square foot playground. The new playground was designed by LandscapeDE who was hired by Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces with the goal of creating a space that would encourage residents and their children to spend more time outside, be active, and de-stress. LandscapeDE creates very distinctive and creative outdoor play spaces for children. If you ever saw one you would know it instantly. They also created the amazing ADA accessible playground in Pinecrest Gardens with the anole lizard ramp and play structure and a brand new playground for Pioneer Park in Port St. Lucie. For Biscayne Shores & Gardens Park they built on a five foot earth mound and added an explorer dome, boulder climbers, an embankment slide, swings, bee and forest bug spring riders, a forest lake boat, and an embankment slide. Royal palms, gumbo limbo trees, live oaks, milkweeds, Fakahatchee grass, pineland crotons, yellowtops, porterweeds, gamagrass, giant ironweeds, and Boston ferns were planted to accent the area. The large trees give the playground the feel of being in a forest as they provide shade and connect the playground to nature. The playground was one of the first in Miami Dade County to incorporate nature based play elements. Biscayne Shore and Gardens Park also has a new 3,013 square foot recreation center that offers arts and crafts, after school programs, and camps. The recreations center includes a park office, restrooms, and storage space, a 20-vehicle lighted parking lot, walkway lighting, sidewalks, and landscaping. Additional amenities include picnic shelters, benches, and an exercise path that winds among the park's landscaping enhancing its natural beauty, with palm trees and colorful flowers adding to the vibrant and inviting environment. Biscayne Shores and Gardens Park is a charming and versatile space that caters to a wide range of interests and activities. With all of the recreational amenities it is a great destination for families, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing day outdoors. Whether you're a local resident or just visiting Miami, this park is well worth a visit, especially if you have children.

That's the State for you, I guess. But anyway, large grassy area, plenty of room to kick a ball around, there's a baseball field (though however small), a basketball court, and a playground for children. This is a great working-class park, however, it's easily distressed by these annoying, useless government agents. Again, as soon as sunset hits, expect your local uniformed-thugs to send you packing home, because, yup, you guessed, it's "too dark" and those are the "rules".
