Along the trail are shopping centers, restaurants, schools, and parks like this one. The path runs parallel to the Snake Creek Canal which is used to prevent area flooding but is also popular for fishing, kayaking, and jet skiing. The Barry Schreiber Promenade Park is named in honor of lawyer and former Miami commissioner Barry Schreinber who served from 1976 through 1990. The park has a few spaces but it is mainly used by people who live in the neighborhood who walk over. Park amenities include a fenced in playground for safety which is especially important since the park is on a canal, exercise equipment, pavilion with picnic table, and a bike fix it station. My favorite part of this park was all the birds. There were ibis everywhere, even in the trees along with ducks and moorhens swimming in the canal. The Snake Creek Canal attracts an abundance of native Florida birds and water fowl. This park is a great neighborhood resource for play, fitness, picnics, and bird watching.

Heritage Park was conceived as being a landmark entrance to the city. The park was dedicated on June 18, 2011 to coincide with the city's 14th anniversary. Parking is available in the garage across the street. Public meetings were held to get community input into the design if the park. The result is an engaging park full of amenities for everyone to enjoy. Heritage Park has two playgrounds with Evos and Weevos play structures designed to let children flex their mental and physical muscles for creative play and upper body and core strength. a water play area, Veterans Memorial, performance stage used for the signature event Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest every October, dog area, great lawn, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms. This park is a stop on the community service shuttle bus. This upscale neighborhood is quiet and family-friendly. Diamond Head Park is two acres and is open daily from sunrise to sunset. I found the park to be clean and well-maintained. Amenities include a basketball court, a shade-covered playground, benches, a picnic table, a racquetball court, and a paved walkway, which I enjoyed using for exercise. While I walked through the park, children were riding bikes and making use of the playground. There is a large open area for play and picnics, and the shade provided by the trees was a welcome relief from the sun.

When development began, the lakes were blackish brown, the wetlands were stripped away, and the shore land consisted mainly of blasted white rocky hardpan. To restore the balance with nature over half of the community's initial 1200 acres were set aside for natural areas. This included 750 acres of lakes and waterways, 276 acres of replanted wetlands, 30 miles of shoreline, and the creation of 19 mini-parks and 3 large parks. Today this once stripped area is the thriving SilverLakes neighborhood that has been awarded a Waterfowl Habitat Designation by the State of Florida Bureau of Mine Reclamation in 1999. Running through the 8.5 acre Island Park is the Silver Lakes Trail, a 1.3 mile out and back trail that traverses in between two waterways. It is ideal for dog walkers, runners, and walkers. There are 2 designated accessible spaces in the paved parking lot off of Southwest 23rd Street at the northeast end of the trail. Island Park also has a fishing dock, pavilion, and playground. This scenic park is a serene spot ideal for families, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone seeking tranquil outdoor recreation.

Later James became the principal of the two-room Hallandale Community School from 1920 to 1927. In the 1950s, it became the B.F. James Elementary School, then later the B.F. James Adult Education Center. Today BF James Park sits on the site of the city's first black school. In 2014 the community gave feedback to the city that they wanted a pool. The pool and park is part of Hallandale Beach's Citywide Parks Master plan. It was the second city park to be completed in the first phase of the plan. BF James Park received a five million dollar complex that includes a beach style swimming pool with exercise lanes. Other park amenities added included exercise stations, a covered playground, and two new basketball courts. The building of this park fulfilled a 40 year old promise the city made to this community to provide a pool after the old Dixie pool fell into a state of disrepair. It is nice to see that the city of Hallandale Beach honored their commitment to this neighborhood with this beautiful park.

There are two sections of the park, north and south. The south section bayside which I visited is on the promenade that runs along the Intracoastal. There is a paved walkway and the Aventura Community Green Garden. Residents of Aventura can lease a a 4 x 12 foot garden plot for $110 a year. The northern section of Founders Park is for Aventura residents only. There is a welcome center; a quarter-mile, four station exercise trail; ADA accessible playground; sun shelters; tennis courts, and a multipurpose athletic field for baseball, softball, football or soccer. The park is also the home of the Founders ParkSplashPad, a water play area inside the park. Admission is free for Aventura residents and non residents used to be able to pay to use this section of the park but this year they closed to anyone that does not have ID saying they live in Aventura. This is the first city park I have ever come across in Florida that is closed to non residents. This is probably a 5 star facility if you live here but if you are from outside of the city you are not getting in the north side of this fenced in park.

As a site of native americans, it went from a possible luxury condo complex to one of the most beautiful parks/walkways in the city. It's a fabulous spot to get steps in and soak in the sun while you hear the sounds of water and boats navigating the sea. The park is clean from what I saw and the citizens take proper care of it as they should. I happened to stop here from my morning stay at the Hyatt to get a nice glimpse of the views before heading to the ports for my ships sail. City is lucky to have this historic exhibit of history in this location and a nice park to complement it!

Discovered in 1998, the origins of the Miami Circle - an archaeological site in downtown Miami - remain one of the city's most intriguing mysteries. Known by a few different names - the Miami River Circle and Brickell Point, to name two - the Miami Circle was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2009, seven years after it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The circle was uncovered in early 1998, when property developer Michael Bauman commissioned a routine archaeological survey of the site. Part of a plan to demolish the existing apartment complex in order to build luxurious condos, the plans were brought to a screeching halt when surveyors discovered hundreds of strange holes beneath a layer of limestone. After further investigation, it was discovered that 24 of the largest holes formed a perfect circle with a whopping 38-foot diameter. Several artefacts were also unearthed - including human teeth and pieces of burnt wood - and radiocarbon dated at roughly 1,800-2,000 years old. According to the Miami Herald, the Miami Circle is perhaps the only evidence of a prehistoric structure in bedrock on the East Coast. Based on the results of the radiocarbon dating, along with the similarities in tools, it's believed that the circle might have been the work of the Tequesta Native American tribe. Some have speculated that the holes were once part of a structure, and most likely a building for ceremonial use. The Tequesta tribe is believed to have settled by the Miami River, occupying coastal terrain along the neighboring Atlantic areas. The tribe was made up of hunters and gatherers, who likely would have used shells and shark teeth for tools - both of which were unearthed during the excavation of the site. With the Miami Circle likely dating back over 1,000 years, it's remarkable that around 85% of its structure is still perfectly preserved. Today, visitors to Miami can head to the site and see the ring of limestone for themselves - although the holes are now covered with soil and grass for protection.

Griffing Park is the Veteran's Park that every town has. It has a clock, a fountain, and a few…read moresmall plaques recognizing the sacrifices of our soldiers. There is a community center across the street and a wide open field for play and exercise. Griffing Park takes it's name from Arthur Merlow Griffing who came to this area from New York in the 1920's during Florida's land boom years. He established a nursery and worked as the landscaper on developer Carl Fisher's projects. When demand for land became high he subdivided and sold off his tomato fields which became the development of Biscayne Park. The town was incorporated in 1931 and the name of the town was changed to the Village of Biscayne Park. There isn't much to draw someone here from outside the neighborhood but what caught my eye and why I stopped is the display of mass graves set up to honor people lost to Covid. This is the second memorial of it's kind set up in Miami. The first was erected on October 14, in Simonhoff park in Liberty City. So far more than 3,600 people have died from the Corona virus in Miami Dade County and 231,000 people have succumbed across the nation. The display in Griffing Park was put together by Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin and U.S. Representative Frederika Wilson. They put up the display to provide a place for people to grieve and to remind everyone what is happening in their community. They hope that the display will encourage people to wear their masks and save lives. This moving memorial will remain up through the month of November. Three stars for the park but five stars for the display.
