There are two sections of the park, north and south. The south section bayside which I visited is on the promenade that runs along the Intracoastal. There is a paved walkway and the Aventura Community Green Garden. Residents of Aventura can lease a a 4 x 12 foot garden plot for $110 a year. The northern section of Founders Park is for Aventura residents only. There is a welcome center; a quarter-mile, four station exercise trail; ADA accessible playground; sun shelters; tennis courts, and a multipurpose athletic field for baseball, softball, football or soccer. The park is also the home of the Founders ParkSplashPad, a water play area inside the park. Admission is free for Aventura residents and non residents used to be able to pay to use this section of the park but this year they closed to anyone that does not have ID saying they live in Aventura. This is the first city park I have ever come across in Florida that is closed to non residents. This is probably a 5 star facility if you live here but if you are from outside of the city you are not getting in the north side of this fenced in park.

The center itself is nice. The courts are in very good condition. Clay and hard courts. Racquet…read moreball courts as well as 2 tennis walls for practice. (walls $1 per hour) They offer private lessons as well as group clinics. I believe private are $50 per hour with a pro/instructor. Group clinics: 8 classes for $110 or $20 each. You can purchase an annual membership at $641 per couple. With membership- no addt'l charge to play during the day, but addt'l $2 pp for evening play to cover lighting costs. Which I felt was nickel and diming as well as the $1 for the wall rental. Group clinics are M & W from 7-8pm. They typically break up into 2 classes- one with more advanced/intermediate players and one for beginners. Beware of the beginner class. It is not for real beginners that have no former experience at all. Runs as quickly as boot camp and if you had no prior experience i.e. holding racket, basic form for forehand and backhand you will be very frustrated and will not learn the 101 stuff. When I went I was already taking private lessons at another facility (Surfside Tennis Center- which I highly recommend) and did know my basics but the speed of the class didn't allow me to work on my form or technique it was just about faster and quicker. Within 60 minutes I received 1 actual critique to help me improve (is that a lesson?). The next day when I returned to my private lesson I was rushing the ball, swinging way too fast and was all over the place, essentially wiping away any advancement I had achieved in private lessons. It took another hour/ $50 to repair what I ruined from the night before back in my private lessons. The second and last time I participated in the clinic the coach told me in front of everyone I was slowing down the class and it was not a private lesson- which I connected with most balls and ran just as fast as everyone else, but I did ask him why everything needed to be so fast so I guess that prompted his frustration. Even as I progress I will not return to such a clinic, especially there as that is not the best use of my time or patience. Just not the learning environment for me. At the end of class 2 we played doubles. I don't even know the rules of the game yet. He was also very frustrated when I told him I wasn't taught to serve yet. Maybe not every group clinic is the same, but this was my first and only experience with clinics so far. I would love to hear back from other locals that have experienced a better class for groups to help supplement my private lessons. No refunds on any of the clinics- we signed up for the series of 8 classes but being a city facility we were told too bad. No transfers (so boyfriend could use them in clinics) either. Use them or loose them. I am hoping they will at least offer me 1 or 2 private lessons for the $ they have of mine that will not be used on clinics. TBA. Court Time: day play $14 per couple and night play $18 per couple. Hours are M-f 8am-9pm and weekends 8am-5pm.

There's constant arguments on the Pickleball courts because the…read moremanager Angie, who plays almost daily, changes the rules to suit her and her clique every time you go out there. They'll tell you that you're not advanced enough to play with them desire beating them. They'll allow their friends to stay on the court even when their turn is completed & there's many paddles and people waiting. She will also flat out insult people when she's in a bad mood, and she decides that they've made a poor shot when they scored on her which sets a bad example, is in poor taste, and encourages others poor sportsmanship. A quick discussion with other people waiting for courts reveals that many others have run into similar situation with her and her group and no longer try to play on the advanced courts or are seeking out althernate courts. Overhearing discussions with her clique, they encouraged her to raise price to $5 to dissuade others from showing up & it getting too crowded (she often allows her friends in for free thru the side fence door by the courts). I'm of a mind that no public facility should be running with such gross prejudices, biases, and generally unprofessional practices. This is a city facility that should feel welcoming to all.

At the time, there wasn't much information on the jelps (gasp!), so I ventured to a search engine and came up with MSRC. Some easy directions later and my intrepid group was there. The first thing that hits you is the upkeep. There is so disrepair or hot mess-itis going on. This rec center is beautifully maintained with manicured grass, proper landscaping for shade trees, benches, baseball diamonds, playground, field house, and shaded seating areas. Yes, areaS. 'tis not all. Also expect to see/experience a soccer field with no chunks missing out of the turf (really? Yes, Gladys; really), tennis courts, water fountains from which you can drink and not fear the repercussions, and a running track. The rec center is smack dab in the middle of a residential area and I imagine that it must be quite the coup for the families who live nearby. It might not be a shock to experience a nicely maintained and very visually appealing swath of green space in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood but Toto and I certainly knew we weren't in South Beach anymore. The change was nice. If you haven't been, take some time this weekend to check it out for yourself. I think you'll like it.
