This sports facility had been recently updated and it shows. The fields look beautiful and the new soft bottom covered playground is awesome. It was built for all abilities and easy for the parents or caregivers to navigate the ramps and slides. This playground was so clean and centrally located between the fenced ball fields. Parking is a bit of an issue as there is no paved lot near the playground. There is a dirt field with no real signage for parking. There are two handicapped parking spaces very near the entrance.

I googled this place and showed up and I was so impressed with the coaches, the stretching they teach them and the drills and training. Literally they develop a player from head to toe. Within 2 weeks I saw a major improvement in my son as a basketball player. Serge is so on spot with his assessment of the players and the game plan to develop them. Just wish I found this place 2 years ago.

Oreste Blake (O.B.) Johnson was former teacher who volunteered as a recreation leader in the City…read moreof Hallandale Beach. He was instrumental in convincing the city to build Dixie Park with a pool at Pembroke Road between NW 8th Avenue and NW 7th. He was the city's first parks director, a position that grew out of his concern and interest for the northwest community he lived in. Johnson organized basketball, swimming, baseball and softball games for the neighborhood children and turned them into state champions. He also started the Hallandale Scholarship Society. Mr. Johnson retired in 1978. In recognition of Mr. Johnson's dedication to the children and residents of the community, the City changed the name of Dixie Park to OB Johnson Park shortly after his death in 1995 at the age of 80. The gymnasium at O.B. Johnson Park was dedicated to another man who was recognized for his connection to the children in Hallandale Beach. On June 5th, 2001, City Commissioners voted unanimously to designate the gymnasium at O.B. Johnson Park as the Nelson "Butch" Brown Activity Center. Nelson "Butch" Brown was a popular city worker who took care of the children and parks in the community for the 35 years he worked for the City of Hallandale Beach. This park has a lot of history in this community and has been an important social and recreational gathering place. When James Brown used to perform in the area he could be found at this park playing basketball with the local kids. Boxing champ Floyd Patterson was another icon who also visited the park and signed autographs and shook hands with 4,000 fans. Today the pool is located in BF James Park but OB Johnson Park still has plenty of great amenities. Upgrades to the park were made in 2016. OB Johnson Park offers a Teen Zone program, senior programs and it has a new computer lab, and fitness gym along with the Nelson Butch Brown Gymnasium. You can play basketball, soccer, and tennis here and there is a shade covered playground. The city has put a lot of thought and money to creating a park that offers as much as possible to the community. It is just the way Mr. Johnson would have wanted it.

I loved discovering this beautiful neighborhood park dedicated to Pembroke Pines Commissioner and…read moreVice Mayor, Ashley Hale in May 1977 for her "many years of service unselfish and untiring towards the betterment of all of the youth of our city, Pembroke Pines." Set along aside a picturesque canal, at 3.28 acres, this park is much larger than your typical neighborhood park. Park amenities include a basketball court, benches, and a very nice covered playground with climbing structures and swings There is also a swing set. Also in the park is a memorial to Lucas Donovan Repetto. Lucas was the young son of City of Miami Fire-Rescue Lieutenant Patricio Repetto. He tragically passed away from an accident at the age of almost three. In his memory his family created this memorial and collected and assembled Joy Kits for the patients of Joe DiMaggio Children's hospital. My favorite part of visiting this park was discovering an adorable burrowing owl in the open area of the park. Burrowing owls are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. These owls are small and live in underground burrows found usually in parks. It is always a treat to find one and then quickly leave it in peace.

The map can be filtered by city and landmark type. One of the landmarks on the map is CW Thomas Park in Dania Beach. The park is located in a historically Black section of Dania Beach known as Danie. C.W. Thomas Park was formerly named Modello Park. The name was changed to honor Charlie Will Thomas who graduated from Attucks school, another historic landmark a few miles north. Attucks High School in Dania Beach was a high school for Black students that graduated its last class in 1968. It later became Attucks Middle School, a magnet school in Broward County Public Schools. C.W. Thomas was lauded for his philanthropy and community service. The historic baseball diamonds in this park were home to the Dania Redbirds, a semi-pro negro league baseball team. The team was created in 1958 by local high school graduates from Attucks High School and included players from the Libera, now Hollywood, and Dania Beach neighborhoods As a teenager in the 70s, Oddibe McDowell played for the Redbirds. He went on to play professionally after being drafted in the first round by the Texas Rangers. After he retired from baseball he coached at his alma mater, McArthur High School in Hollywood. Another notable Redbird player was former Chicago Cubs Outfielder Andre Dawson known as the "The Hawk" and "Awesome Dawson." Today the park is undergoing a transformation. It is just one of Dania Beach's parks benefitting from a 45 million dollar investment into the city parks and recreation department. Other parks receiving upgrades from this money include Chester Byrd Park, Frost Park, and PJ Meli Aquatic Complex. In addition a $3 million Federal Grant has been secured for the redevelopment of a recreational, social, and civic community center for C.W. Thomas Park. When completed park amenities will include a new football field, playground, community center, covered exercise area, basketball court, dog park, recreation pool, and parking lot. Groundbreaking took place back in October of 2022 and the park still isn't finished. Renovations are expected to be complete late this year.

She was elected Police Commissioner in 1978 and served her first term as mayor in 1983. She served for 22 years as mayor and was the longest elected official in Cooper City. This well kept, 19 acre park is an amazing recreational resource for sports enthusiasts in Cooper City. Park amenities include baseball/softball fields, concession area, football/soccer fields, lighted basketball courts, benches, pavilion, six lighted pickleball courts, picnic tables, playground, restroom, four volleyball courts, and my favorite part, a walking trail where I enjoyed a nice brisk walk around the park. In addition to the great sports amenities this park is also a community gathering spot. Many events are held here throughout the year including Eat to the Beat which will take place on January 30, 2026 from 6:30 - 9:00 PM. The event is free to attend and there will be live music and food and beverages available for purchase.

It is a 19 acre sports complex that has volleyball courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer and football fields, a stage for community events, a playground, spotless bathrooms and even a police and a fire department located there. They host great events for the community there such as Soccerfest, Touch A-Truck, Shredathon, (to dispose of expired prescriptions and papers), concerts, and Eat To The Beat, a fun event with live music and food trucks. If you drive by during the weekend, they will no doubt be a sports game of some kind going on. The grounds are kept spotless and it has such a great community feel to it.

Several of his former players including Ricky Jean Francois, Aubrey Hill, Santana Moss, Sinorice Moss, Kenny Phillips, Willie Williams, Ethenic Sands and William Roberts went on to the NFL. From 1983 to 2007, Frazier's Carol City Chiefs were one of the premier high school programs in the state and in the nation. They won three Class 6A state championships in 1996,1997 and 2003. The Miami Gardens HBCU High School Sports Camp and Combine also was renamed in Frazier's honor. In January of this year, the Orange Bowl Committee and Miami-Dade County broke ground on a $2.3 million renovation of the park which included a new football field, electronic scoreboard, new press box, shaded seating, and building refurbishments. Other park amenities include a baseball field, basketball court, meeting rooms, multipurpose fields, and a playground. I enjoyed the walking path that runs the perimeter of the park. it is nice to see a local legend honored here as this park is upgraded for future generations of football players.
