In 2005 City Park was changed to honor Peter Bluesten who was the founder and publisher of the Hallandale Digest. Mr. Bluesten was a WWII veteran who moved to Hallandale from New Jersey in 1946 and he founded the paper in 1963. He took the paper from a one sheet advertisement to a widely read and respected paper that chronicled the history and growth of the city. It was a hometown paper that the community relied on. Mr, Bluesten was very involved with youth sports in the city. He passed away in 1996. The park was redesigned by Craven Thompson & Associates Inc. and the remodeled 16.5 acre Peter Bluesten Park opened to the public on September 28, 2019. One of the highlights is the park's Aquatics Center which has a 25-meter by 25-yard competition style pool with eight lane short course section for high school swim competitions and recreational interactive water features. The pool was designed to meet all of the requirements for USA Swimming. The multipurpose main pool has a large learn-to-swim area, a dedicated water aerobics area, and a beach entry. Both pools are design-built concrete pools with deck level overflow gutter systems. There is also a 1,800 sq. ft water playground with an elevated play structure, which includes multiple decks, slides, rain buckets, water cannons, dancing floor jets and water curtains. Other park amenities include The Hallandale Beach YMCA, an artificial Safeshell turf soccer field, three baseball fields, concession stand, outdoor stage, playground, tennis, basketball, bankshot basketball, racquetball, walking path, and support buildings. The city uses the park for a number of events like their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Movies Under the Stars. If there is one small drawback to Peter Bluesten Park it is that it does not have a parking lot. You have to pay by app and park on the street. This is not the case at all! In the front of the park, there are 3 pavilions, a playground and splash pad. One of my parties was in this area. And it was great. You can enjoy the party while watching your kids play on the playground or the splash pad as everything is in close proximity. There is one pavilion that is a little further away but not too far away. The second party was in the nature center that is technically connected to the office. There is a closed in area and back patio. The back patio is where the second party was as it was a picnic theme. In addition to that the park offers a walking trail and someone mentioned that there is an area to see animals. I am not sure of the extent to that.

My friend and I have a pact to run every Saturday this month while exploring parks around Broward and this first Saturday of September we ventured to Miramar Pineland Park. I was not looking forward to this run since the first photos I saw were a trail with no shade but luckily, 3/4 of the trail were covered by shady trees! This park has the standar $1.50 per person entrance fee for weekends and holidays. Once you enter, the first part has a few pavilions for parties and a big playground with a splash pad (currently not in service.) If you keep driving, it leads you to the new Nature Center (I think) that isn't open yet and the beginning of one of their trails. This is the one we chose to take. It was very hot at 10am but we welcome the covered trail. Along the trail, there's a pathway that leads to a gazebo which overlooks nothing at the moment. If you run around the trail twice, it covers one mile. The nature center looks really nice and looks like it could be used for a wedding party or larger gatherings. The only thing is parking seems limited so I'm interested to see if they add any later. Driving out of the park, we noticed that there is also a "Wetland Trail" so you bet this is going to be one of our future runs. Hopefully we remember to bring sunblock as it looks like this one doesn't have any shade.

The park is safely nestled behind the Hialeah Gardens Police Department and for the most part is fenced in. Dont let the busy feels of 103rd st fool you, this park is nestled under the shade of the tall pine trees (which I am glad are still around). If you have an avid climber this park is for you! There are so many structures to climb but at the same time I feel like this park is better suited for older kids (Maybe older than 4). The play structures span more than 2 levels making it hard for the little ones to reach the top and when they are at the top it is really hard to maneuver the area to get into the slides. My 3 yr old found this structure quite intimidating when leaving the second level. If you do come to this park with a small child the good thing is there is a small path to walk, 2 swings for infants, several benches, and a nice picnic table under a gazebo. I wanted to give this park 5 stars but I find it quite dangerous as the structure are very high and I found spots where small hands and feet could get stuck while climbing a tunnel. I also recommend coming to the parl in earlier hours so that you can find a parking spot. Simply pull in as if you are going to the police station and loop around behind it.

Later James became the principal of the two-room Hallandale Community School from 1920 to 1927. In the 1950s, it became the B.F. James Elementary School, then later the B.F. James Adult Education Center. Today BF James Park sits on the site of the city's first black school. In 2014 the community gave feedback to the city that they wanted a pool. The pool and park is part of Hallandale Beach's Citywide Parks Master plan. It was the second city park to be completed in the first phase of the plan. BF James Park received a five million dollar complex that includes a beach style swimming pool with exercise lanes. Other park amenities added included exercise stations, a covered playground, and two new basketball courts. The building of this park fulfilled a 40 year old promise the city made to this community to provide a pool after the old Dixie pool fell into a state of disrepair. It is nice to see that the city of Hallandale Beach honored their commitment to this neighborhood with this beautiful park.

This Saturday, I stopped by again since it was the kickoff point for the Miami Lakes Reindeer Run 5K. Humble Brag: while not placing, I completed it on an about a 9 minute mile. It's an improvement from when I started exercising. The park has a couple of picnic shelters, a basketball court as well as body weight strength training stations. The park bathroom building was also clean. Parking is available on both sides of the street adjacent the park. For today's event, there were a couple of vendor booths, including food vendors, a podiatrist and a different gym than the one I go to. The run was through a mapped out course along Commerce Way.

Some Saturday they host Like a farmers market. On 4th of July they host free event with music and have food trucks to purchase food and drinks. The fire work show was spectacular this year.

The other area was a small space they had somehow crammed a pool table, bar, domino table and several other tall tables into. All the tall tables had been taken so I sat with my daughter at the kids table situated in the center of the room. I was immediately told to get up because the chairs were made for kids. Not for nothing but I weigh a whopping 105 pounds. But whatever. I took my daughter into the play area and she wanted me to carry her so she could dunk a basket on the basketball game in the corner. I lost my balance and fell into it. Immediately, here comes crabby owner yelling "Get up, get up! You're gonna break it!" Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking. I went into the other area for a while to eat and grab some candy and could hear this lady yelling at kids about climbing on stuff and running too fast. Seriously? At this point there was only about 40 minutes left of party time. My daughter wants to go into the bounce house. She got scared when the kids got rough and just sat there crying. Naturally, I went in after her. Guess who is on my ass two seconds later. I pull my kid out, grab our things and tell the lady to go screw herself and that she'll never see me or anyone I know ever again. My best friend who threw the party told her off also. Moral of the story, if you want your kids to have fun, stay far away from this place.

One of the parks slated to get funds was Ingalls park and a ground breaking was held on Monday, April 23rd, 2018. The newly renovated Ingalls Park reopened to the public on June 1, 2019. Ingalls Park has a community center, walking trails, playground, pavilions, and a gazebo. The Center, pavilions, and gazebo can be rented for birthday parties and private functions. This park is really beautiful. I enjoyed walking on the path and my favorite parts of the park were the bridge, ducks, and turtles but I think the best feature of the park is that it is entirely enclosed by a fence. You can let your kids play and not have to worry that they are going to wander away or get out. It seems like a very safe play area. On the day I visited kids were enjoying the play area while other people were picnicking, and exercising. Hallandale created a great green space for their residents and guests.

Adult residents enjoy the lighted walking trail with 10 exercise stations while children flock to the splash pad and large, updated playground with shade cover. The park also has a restroom. As I was walking for exercise I enjoyed the antics of the neighborhood squirrels who all had big personalities. Large shade trees and beautiful landscaping throughout the park make you feel removed from the urban hustle and bustle of the surrounding neighborhood. Zinkil Park was named in honor of William G. Zinkil (April 14, 1919 - 2011). Zinkil was born in Chicago, Illinois and in 1925 moved to Hollywood, Florida where he became the first elected mayor of the city. He went on to serve as a Democratic member for the 85th district of the Florida House of Representatives. In 1970, Zinkil was elected to represent the 85th district of the Florida House of Representatives where he served until 1972. That same year he was elected to represent the 32nd district of the Florida Senate where he served until 1978. The Zinkil's are a prominent Hollywood family and they donated the land for the park.
