Server was lovely and everything arrived in a very reasonable amount of time. Food was a 3. No more. The shrimp and grits were really a big miss. I read where it said casserole and I was fully expecting a new (for me) twist on shrimp and grits - but it was not good. Dry baked grits with maybe three shrimp total and a few tiny piece of crab. No sauce, no cheese on top - nothing. Was very very odd indeed - more like cornbread or spoon bread with zero flavor. My husband ordered a steak and it was good, so there was some redemption there. I will say, one major restaurant pet peeve for me is when the first thing you smell when you open the door is air freshener. The bathrooms are right by the door and they have a fake cherry air freshener smell pumping out from them. So that's what you get hit with when you walk in. I don't know the solution to this type of layout, but strong air freshener isn't it.

I ordered the curry shrimp with mac & cheese and a pineapple soda, and spent almost $30 total. For that price, the portion size was absurdly small. The shrimp were tiny, the curry shrimp and rice were extremely salty, and the mac & cheese tasted mid at best with a very small portion. Definitely not worth the price and not a good first impression at all. I'd honestly recommend Jamaican Way instead.

I scanned the chalk board menu and didn't see a veggie curry, but after I mentioned I was vegetarian he said all I'd have to do is call ahead and he would fix me a proper vegetable plate. For this visit though, I got a sides plate with rice and peas, plantains, cabbage and a side of roti skin. Everything was hot and delicious. The rice was firm, the plantains were ripe, and the cabbage was well seasoned. I drizzled a little hot sauce on my cabbage and rice for a little spice and it set off the flavors perfectly. They also have American wings and hot dogs on the menu. The restaurant has a walk up counter with seating for about 4 - 6 people inside. There is also a small table outside. I will definitely return to try a vegetable curry after calling ahead to order. I'm so glad we have more ethnically diverse restaurants popping up in Aiken County.

If you're looking for anything other than that in my review wait for someone with a more knowledgeable palate. On to the review. Caribbean Express is located on the corner of Milledgeville Rd. And Olive Rd. directly across from the old Crab King location. It's brightly colored green with the brightly colored flags of the Caribbean and the US. The location has been the home of a couple of long gone restaurants. There is minimal parking on either side and in the back. There is no inside or outside seating. You place your order in the front through a sliding glass window. The staff is friendly and helpful. Though there is no seating, the food comes out quickly. I ordered the oxtail stew plate with red beans and rice and cabbage. I also ordered Coco bread (never had it). Everything was really good. The oxtails are thinly cut so don't expect hunks of oxtails but I was satisfied with the amount. Everything was perfectly seasoned I didn't add anything. I split it with my friend and he only added hot sauce because he wanted some kick. The Coco bread was nice and warm. I tasted it but didn't eat it. I'm going to save it to make a sandwich out of it. I was pleased with everything so I'll definitely be back again. I'm anxious to try other things on the menu. They also have smoothies!

The fish market lasted longer than the other restaurants did. I would pass this place frequently when I was on this side of town. I kept a mental note that I would check them out one day. So one day I was on social media and an ad for this business came up and their menu as well. They had some soul food staples even chitlins and hog maws!!! I haven't had good chitlins since I was a kid and my grandmother cooked them to perfection. So of course I stopped what I was doing and made a beeline to this restaurant. I knew I wanted chitlins, so that's what I ordered; green beans and dressing as well. It came with a hoecake too. I hadn't ate hoecakes in years!!! Everything was exceptional except the dressing. It was very light but had a good flavor, they need to leave it in the oven much longer. The green beans were out of this world good too!!! They were seasoned to perfection and didn't have a lick of meat in them!!! Some people can't cook vegetables without the help of a piece of meat or a bone. They have a $6.99 special on Tuesdays where every meal is $6.99. That's a pretty good deal. I'm not sure about the prices everyday but I know it a little more on the weekend. You can check their Facebook page daily to see what they will be serving each day. They post it pretty early so it gives you a chance to see if you want what they are cooking that day. They haven't been opened that long but they already have a great following!!! They run out of items within a few hours, so make sure to get there early if you can. They also started a First Friday special where they are open from 9pm to 2am. I think that's a great idea because there are no soul food places open that late unless it's your own kitchen. I also heard rumbling about delivery so I'm sure that will be next. They employees are very friendly and helpful they make you feel like family. They are already familiar with my face and they are always glad to see me!!! This is a solid spot!!!!
