This is a great chain bakery, but this location isn't doing the brand justice. So disappointing.... At other locations, the baked goods are held unwrapped in bins that are kept at 85degrees (hence the name). Part of the brand experience is grabbing a tray and tongs upon entering and selecting individual items to be boxed up at the front. Unfortunately, here everything is just individually wrapped in plastic (yuk!) and just left out at room temperature (closer to 70 degrees) on countertops. The counter person isn't nearly as friendly either. Is it still tasty? Sure, but this location is tainting the brand's identity. Would recommend the Genessee or UTC locations over this one. read more

as promised i will be negating all these 1-2 star reviews. first off, things sell out...when you have a good product. sorry not sorry. their products are AFFORDABLE teas are 5-7$ after add ons. snacks are 3$ average. second, the boba here is 10/10 ( shocking for santee). hard to find perfectly cooked boba in san diego let alone this far from convoy. third, everyone is always so accommodating no matter how busy! it's crazy how sweet the staff is. (ps get wifi so the mobile app works yall r in a dead zone) and last, though this place is small, it's so cozy, and it forces people to share the tables. i honestly love it -- i have had some lovely conversations with guests bc they ask to sit with me or vice versa. 3.5 stars. The bakery items are the hook for me. Coffee is a work in progress here but I'll still come back for the tasty and cheap bakery items. The workflow involves, getting a tray near the entrance, choose a bakery item, then check out at the bakery counter. The coffee section is separate from the bakery counter. The bakery items are cheap and worthy of a visit even though they're still working out the workflow the bakery items are worth the visit. I do wish they open sooner, we'll see. I stopped in 85 for an iced green tea with no sweetener and a Boran Danish for $2.70. The Danish was good. It was soft and airy and had a mild flavor. The green iced tea was not so good because they decided to put sweetener in it, even though "No Sugar" was clearly marked on the sticker on the cup. It is hard to find good help these days. Anyway, after a couple of tries, I had to toss it because of the overly sweet flavor. Although, they had a lot of baked goods available, they still did not offer everything they usually do because they are still under a soft opening umbrella. The hospitality was okay. Drink orders are placed at the kiosk as you enter, then you can shop for pastries while your drink is made. Swung by to check out the newest 85 location and we lucked out and happened upon their grand opening! Beautiful interior with lots of fresh bread & pastries. Everything looked clean and freshly baked. We got an assortment of sweet and savory items along with my favorite sea salt jasmine green tea and also a Vietnamese iced coffee. Service was friendly and quick at the check out counter. Theres also 2 kiosks to order drinks at if you're not getting any pastries. I don't understand the harsh 2-3 star reviews for a place that was in their soft opening phase up until today (and people who write good praises and only give 3 stars??) I am very excited to have 85 be a part of the Santee neighborhood so I don't have to drive all the way to Mira Mesa for one of my favorites teas! read more

Little did I realize I was trying this location out the day of the grand opening, within their last 20 minutes! It's a beautiful location, well done. Efficient layout. Most of the items were in plastic wrapper which makes it nice and safe, sanitary, especially when people are coughing! The attention to detail is great. We had two slices of cake and a . All was good. I think the way I'd sum it up is light. Nothing was heavy it was all light and fluffy. I look forward to going back and trying the coffee drinks. We stopped by a week after their grand opening and they were sold out of lots of things! Must be that good! We got the strawberry loaf and it was soft, buttery, and just the perfect about of sweetness! We also had a mango green tea with mango jelly. It was fresh and delicious! More on the sweetener side but definitely good for a sweet treat! They greeted us as we walked in and told us a bit about the pastries they had left. I drove down from Ramona to visit 85 C, because I love Korean/French bakeries. I seek them out. In comparision to others I frequent, this one is not my favorite. It is rather small and has a limited selection. I bought one of everything and took them home for our guests and ourselves to enjoy. Needless to say, we did not eat everything. We found things to be repetitive in flavors and not that good. The ham and cheese sandwich is presented on puff pastry, its hard to eat. It's too heavy for the pastry to pick up and eat, and you have to use a fork and knife, defeating the purpose of a "sandwich" I was there just a few days after opening, so they may be still working out the bugs, but this place did not wow me. read more

I had to try the new 85 degree bakery and cafe. It is impressive when you walk in the door how all the baked goods are packaged and ready to go. So many varieties to choose from. They have trays to grab so you can add your various breads and pastries . But, I just wanted to browse and see what they had . I finally settled on an Almond bread twist . I decided to buy a few for family members to try, and I also ordered an Iced Strawberry Matcha! After you order your drinks, you then stand in line to pay for your bakery goods and or sandwiches if you so desire that. Once I paid for my Almond twists, I went to the coffee bar and my Iced Strawberry Matcha was waiting for me. It was incredible at first sip till the very end! Also, once I bit into the Almond Twist, it was love at first bite. So much Almond flavoring with a sweet kick to it but not too sweet and so soft and fluffy. It was like eating a tasty pastry cloud. Mind you, I had just worked out at the grin prior. Yikes! But, I needed to see what all the buzz was about! Now, I understand. I will be coming back for sure! I won't derail my fitness and nutrition plan, but I will be back for the Strawberry Matcha and to try their other coffee beverages. My only suggestions are more friendliness with some of the workers. For example. the girl behind the counter needed to be more friendly, welcoming, and helpful. And, have more indoor as well as outdoor seating available. Maybe offer down cute cafe tables and umbrellas outside. Other than that, it was a fabulous experience! Update: I came back to get my same Strawberry Iced Matcha Latte, and they put a strange Strawberry Jelly which I absolutely do not like. The worker did not make it the same way so I was disappointed. What makes this 85 Degrees bakery lack is its size. I've been to other larger 85 locations in town and this one is noticeably smaller. Perhaps when the hype slows down this location may work. But as of now, the lines will be out the door, which it was this morning. It took about 30-40 minutes to get in and out with a decent haul. That included a drink order. EDIT: I returned and noticed the employees making Fresh Bread announcements a few times while I was waiting in line for a beverage. Seems like the vibe this time was more upbeat and hustle bustle. My first time trying the strawberry matcha latte and it is neat. The layered look got my attention. I'm not really into grassy matcha flavor, but the strawberry sweetness and creamy latte balanced it out for me. I got it unmodified, so thinking about dialing back the sugar to 50 or 75% next time and request less ice. 5/9/2026 - Saturday, for a soft opening. They had a quick line outside and it took 2-3 minutes to get inside. I wouldn't come here for the next few weeks. It will be packed. Nice, clean and modern inside. As soon as you walk in, 2 self kiosks to order drinks. They call your number and in about 15 minutes you are good to go. Walk to the left for the drinks. Look for a white tray and load up on what you want and then wait about 15 minutes to pay for it. It will slow down. It is just new. The place is exactly the same as the others in San Diego. The green tea I ordered was very good. The pastries are exactly the same at the other stores elsewhere with no lines. Overpriced and average taste. I've passed this place numerous times and finally decided to stop in. I got 3 items(2 sweet and 1 savory). The sweet items were pretty tasty. However, the spicy sausage roll was pretty nasty and I had to force myself to finish it. The bread was sweet on the sausage roll and the sausage itself was not what I'm used to and unpleasant. I had never been to a Japanese style bakery before it was a great experience. The place was clean and the ambiance was calm. They have 2 rows with the same items so people don't have to hover in 1 section. There are 2 drink ordering stations as soon as you walk. The only issue I found with these is that they had sold out labels of a few items that were actually available at the front register (I know this because my wife had the great idea of asking the clerk person). To me this is a negative feature since kiosks should reduce line waits, you take it as needed. My wife and I tried several things. We had the Strawberry Half Moon, Custard pastry and we also good a savory cheese garlic roll, strawberry matcha bun and we shared a mango cheesecake. For drinks she had the Vietnamese coffee and I had the seasonal Strawberry con Leche. As you can tell I like strawberries! Everything we had a 5/5 with the exception of the Vietnamese coffee which my wife scored a 4/5 and if I can give you a fair warning stay away from the mango cheesecake. That thing was terrible! It lacked flavor, it tasted old and the texture was weirdly grainy. Never getting that again. My favorite was the half moon, very airy and the flavor profile reminded me of a panadería "ojo de buey". I'm excited to be back and try some more of the savory options and I've seen on social media that they do have seasonal options so that's a great plus to keep customers engaged. read more

Santee has been excitedly waiting for this one! I went around noon during their soft opening so I expected a lot of items to be sold out. There were still plenty of options. I opted for the boba milk tea. There are electronic kiosks for drink orders at the entrance OR you can order a drink in the line where you pay for your food. I ordered my drink so by the time I paid for my food, it was ready. The line moved very quickly. I had paid for my food and got my drink in less than 5 minutes. The place was very clean and lots of people came in as I was leaving. The employee who helped me was very friendly and said I made some good choices for the food options. I told her I was a little late to grab some other food choices. She told me I could wait for more to come out, but I told her I'd be back soon. When I got home, I ate one of the cream puffs. It was amazing! There is PLENTY of parking in the shopping center since a lot of businesses are closed. It's nice to have a fun bakery in the area now. Frankly, this store is perfect for the typical American consumer who is non-demanding, overweight, and slowly progressing towards Type 2 Diabetes. I have eaten at these 85 degree cafes in the San Diego and SF Bay Area about 3-4 times, and I have never had one single item that wowed me. Honestly, the best donut shop in the area (probably Mary's in Santee, CA) does better donuts. And, let's be honest, "donuts" and "sweets" are what these "breads" are. They are ultra-processed and filled with sugar. Do yourself a favor, and find a local excellent baker who makes truly good bread and pastries.
