I tried to revisit once during the holiday season, but the pastry case was cleaned out except for three cookies. I had much better luck stopping in and hanging out onsite (1/8/26). Same welcoming counter person/barista. Better available variety, and I opted for the featured special, 12oz mocha and a pain au chocolat for $9, which was a great value! There were just two others onsite. There were a lot of takeout customers, including regulars, that I observed while onsite at a nearby two top. My mocha was decent, the pain au chocolat was fresh, good flavor and texture, despite being pretty hollow. The photo I took created quite the illusion, looked like it had mass quantities of melty chocolate. Despite the bakery/cafe has an unassuming, now faded yellow exterior and well worn interior, French and Vietnamese inspired Grand Pere Bakery has quite the longevity record and staying power since March 2014. The bun bo hue decent/hit most of the elements I wanted (they didn't have pork blood which I don't enjoy anyways so not a problem). I wasn't a real fan of the banh mi to be honest; it tasted more fusion to me than authentic (had pickled slice onions and was sliced diagonally for style), so I may stick to the downtown delis. They also have a great variety of beverages available too. Espresso, teas, and milk teas as examples. The mocha has improved, very coffee forward and not cloyingly sweet. Just needs to be hotter temp wise, but that's just me. My favorite go tos has been variable depending on availability, but recent visits have been their ham and cheese croissants. I greatly appreciate the offer to have it warmed up if dining onsite. It's just a strange pairing to place such tasty pastries on a paper plate and then provided flatware, knife & fork or just a fork. The shop is a kiosk that serves the usual coffees and pastries. But it seems that their specialty is the crepes, which were very enticing. However, I was there for caffeine. At the moment of truth, I talked myself into the Moroccan tea with mint. The mint was not overpowering. With hints of floral notes and just enough sweetness, I enjoyed it very much. I have no other experiences of Moroccan tea to compare with, but this was delightful. Will have to try the crepes next time.

I asked for their most popular dessert, the guy at the register said it was the ube basque so I ordered it, to go. The flavor was good but I disliked the amount of food coloring used. The purple color was quite exaggerated and my stomach complained about it later on. I noticed a similar intensity with the green color of the pistachio option. I should've known better and order something else but I was tempted by it since I was told it was their best selling option. Sadly and very disappointed, I later discovered on their website that this ube basque is not even shown on their menu! Apparently, croffles are their most popular desserts... I don't understand why they didn't tell me that... but whatever. Intense food dye + lack of honesty with the recommendation = Hence the 3 stars.
