Good pastries, nice staff, and free roll for kids!…read more Our experience was great. They gave coupons the first two times we went. One for a free pastry next visit and after we used that they gave a coupon for a free bread loaf the next visit. The pastries are really high quality and creative, like the cottage coins(?) and the rye chocolate chip cookie.

I've visited The Cottage a couple more times, along with visiting plenty of other Seattle-area…read morebakeries, and I unfortunately no longer think they are top tier. I'm not sure if it's because something changed on the side of the bakery (maybe recipe or personnel changes?) or on my side, having tried more bakeries around the area. On our last visit we bought two loaves of bread to accompany a butter tasting. Both loaves I found to be not nearly as high quality as I remember previously. Pane Bello ($9) - The crust basically doesn't exist in this bread. It's soft and leathery and doesn't give that satisfying crispness of a well baked bread. The interior, while having good crumb structure, is particularly dry and almost crumbly. The taste is mild, perfect for pairing with higher end butters. (3/5) Parmesan Black Pepper Sourdough ($9) - This batard has similar texture as compared to the Pane Bello. It has the addition of plenty of black pepper baked inside, spaced out rather evenly, allowing a peppery bite every time. There's salty and fatty parmesan baked on top, giving a caramelized salty umami. It definitely has more flavor than the Pane Bello, but suffers from the same textural issues. (3/5) We purchased both loaves at 10AM on a Sunday morning and they were consumed within 2.5 hours, so I don't think it's an issue with storage. I ate a bit of their regular foccacia at a work event too. It has a good crispy exterior and is salted well on the top. Unfortunately the interior isn't the best, having a really dense, chewy crumb. I'm honestly not sure what happened. I really loved The Cottage when I first moved here 1.5 years ago. Now? I have a number of bakeries I'd choose over here in a heartbeat.

Everything was delicious, extremely high quality and so esthetic. I loved the little details, like the spoon shaped like a little spade and a pink straw with a heart cross section. We had a very happy time at Our Place. Visiting here was like being transported to Korea. They even have croffles with flavors like brown cheese, and ube einspanners, and injeolmi bingsu! Nested in the deep recesses of Edmonds you will encounter a creature disguised as a place of business, an ontological marvel and evidence that humanity, though awash in the dooming glow of their iPhones, still understands the wonder and mystery of caffeine. This is Walnut Street Coffee. The experience is at once astonishing and overwhelming. One is flummoxed by the coffee, complex, dark, and necessary, like a small mercy poured into a paper cup. Behind glass, a wide selection of bakery items gawks at its onlookers, each one promising warmth against the indifferent machinery of the day in their little hands. It is a popular place of respite, and therefore it suffers the punishment of being loved. On weekends, the line can become long, a procession of the hopeful and under-caffeinated picking at greeting cards, dreaming of holidays that never were. There are few places to sit. But this is not a tragedy. The people do not linger. They arrive, receive their steam-choked sacrament, and disappear back into the wet, ethereal theater of Edmonds. The staff are pleasant and striking, shifting through the chaos with the calm of remembered goddesses who have accepted the morning and all its burdens. A fine café. The ambiance invites the living and repels the banal. This place of coffee, pastry, waiting, and brief human consolation stands against the headwinds of time and the horror of bitter lunches to come.
