This bakery is a jewel of the neighborhood. We love their strawberry cream squares, which are fresh, light and flavorful. Their mocha cream rolls are super good and their sausage in a cheese bun is a great snack! The only thing to watch out for they are closed Mon & Tuesday, which always seems to be when I wanna pop by after visiting Ranch 99 for groceries. LOL

choco bun and seal salt coffee half sweet. best combo!

I love this location! I've come here countless times throughout the years and have always been so happy with my drinks/breads. The employees there are always so nice and on top of everything. I usually get a passionfruit or peach green tea, no sugar or sea salt coffee half sweet; absolutely amazing. One of the best combos is a choco bun and sea salt coffee half sweet!

After adventuring to the 85°C Bakery Cafe in Federal Way on Friday 3 March 2023, I decided to check out a location closer to the house, this one in Edmonds, today, Sunday 12 March 2023. I arrived a few minutes before opening and it was fun to watch the store front lights turn on and the front doors unlocked. As soon as they unlocked the doors I was out of my car, though I was not fast enough to be the first one in, I had not been the only person waiting for the bakery cafe to open. Parking was abundant and the workers were tuned in to the customers. I went with three items for me and one for my mom: a blueberry tart (for my mom) and a coconut raisin tart, a milk pudding, and a red bean bread for me. The total was $8.50 with tax, I paid cash. All of the items were delicious and warm. Even the blueberry tart for my mom was still a little bit warm by the time I got it home to her after picking up some groceries. The coconut raisin tart was creamy and the coconut really shone in terms of flavor. The two bun items were light and fluffy with a good filling to bun ratio. The red bean filling was sweet and the milk pudding filling had a sharp bite, something I found I liked. My mom enjoyed her tart too, eating it in one go.

There are multiple 85C locations in the greater Seattle area, with two of them pretty close to each other in Edmonds and Lynnwood. This one is located on the Pacific Highway 99 next to Ranch 99 (or 99 Ranch, whichever way you like to say it). There are plenty of parking spots although most of them are on the smaller side. My favorite pastries from the bakery are the brioche and the egg tarts. My favorite drinks are the sea salt coffee and the taro lavender latte. Other drinks I like are the peach green tea and the Thai tea. We love coming here because every month they have discounts and deals on their mobile app for a rotating drink. Sometimes it's $2 off a drink and sometimes it's even 85 cents for a drink. No matter what it is, we try to go to see what new offerings they have and sometimes we end up loving them that we get them even when they're no longer discounted. I've been going to 85C for years and the quality's been the same no matter which one I go to.

To be fair, we arrived late on the day most of the pastry were sold out, so we didn't really get much, only 3 pieces. Staff were friendly though. So I recommend you to get here earlier on the day. I had the chocolate bun, it wasn't bad. The bun wasn't oily and the chocolate stuffing was sweet, a very average quick snack bun I'd say. My bf had the other two pastries, one of them was blueberry tard and both of us were not very fond of it as it was dry and tasted like undercooked. The other one (in the picture) was alright, soft and moist on the inside, but in general, nothing really special. 85C is a quite a popular bakery in China as they have so many unique and creative pastry and breads, and I loved to get one of those sliced bread with grilled cheese cabbage bacon and egg on it (凯撒大帝), it was one of their best seller. Since we were there soon before they closed so I wasn't sure if they have the same thing here.

    Bottled Milk Tea with pastries
    Generous Y.

Lovely pastries, boba isn't half bad either. Bottled drinks were kind of mediocre though. Keep your eye out on the fresh pastries that they bring out! The fresher, the better of course. Choco buns are some of my favorite dessert pastries. Lots of sweet pastries actually and all help curb cravings. Difficult to go through every pastry I've had so I'll leave it up to ya'll to explore and find out what you like. There's something for everyone. Boba here is chewy and sweet. Milk tea (non-bottled) is creamy with a decent taste of tea. I thought it was on the sweeter end. Great go-to spot for refreshments from milk tea to coffee. However, I've had the Frozen Marble Taro Smoothie once and I thought it was bad with an excessive powdery texture, so I'd skip that. Bottled milk tea is more milk than anything, so it's very light and lacks tea flavor. Nice to drink when you want some milk tea, but it doesn't satiate the craving completely. Definitely easy to make at home as well with basic milk and tea.

two potato croquettes, a taro pastry bun and a chocolate chip bun
    Tony J.

The Edmonds location of this widespread Asian bakery-cafe chain. It's located in the same plaza as the 99 Ranch market. Not too busy in the afternoon after lunch hour on a Sunday. It looks big for a bakery from the outside, but half of the space inside is for the sitting area, so there is actually not that as much baked items as I was expecting. Pretty clean and spacious. There is still a pretty decent variety of buns, breads, cakes and such, with prices averaging about $2 per item. I picked up two of the potato croquettes, a taro pastry bun and chocolate chip bun. The croquette had little bit of crisp on the outside and the savory potato filling was pleasant. The taro bun was half way between a pastry and bun, which was an interesting texture. The chocolate chip bun was pretty big and had plenty of chocolate chips. Overall, for a quick bite of baked good it was a decent.

    My $10 buys!
    Rod F.

Super nice, ultra modern space with a great selection of baked goods at really good prices and so many great tea options. I felt guilty going with a fav, Thai tea, when there were so many others. Next time and there will be a next time!

    Chocolate mousse cake

Needed a last minute bday cake and found a nice premade selection here. Pricing seemed fair for a fancy chocolate mousse bakery cake ($37). Good chocolate taste and definitely was a hit at the party!

Sea salt caramel coffee, sea salt jasmine green tea, and green milk tea
    Julie T.

I really like their drinks, especially the sea salt caramel coffee. It has just the right amount of caffeine and boost I need without feeling jittery for the rest of the day. The staff is nice, but the drinks do come out slow. Patience is key and it's worth the wait in my opinion. The sea salt caramel is my go to coffee, if I can order it everyday I would. The restaurant is spacious and has a good amount of tables to sit. Parking is easy to find.

    Spacious, bright interior (5/11/19)

They don't sell the rose milk tea, and they use paper straws that can't pierce the seal on the boba.

I'm not sure if it's because something changed on the side of the bakery (maybe recipe or personnel changes?) or on my side, having tried more bakeries around the area. On our last visit we bought two loaves of bread to accompany a butter tasting. Both loaves I found to be not nearly as high quality as I remember previously. Pane Bello ($9) - The crust basically doesn't exist in this bread. It's soft and leathery and doesn't give that satisfying crispness of a well baked bread. The interior, while having good crumb structure, is particularly dry and almost crumbly. The taste is mild, perfect for pairing with higher end butters. (3/5) Parmesan Black Pepper Sourdough ($9) - This batard has similar texture as compared to the Pane Bello. It has the addition of plenty of black pepper baked inside, spaced out rather evenly, allowing a peppery bite every time. There's salty and fatty parmesan baked on top, giving a caramelized salty umami. It definitely has more flavor than the Pane Bello, but suffers from the same textural issues. (3/5) We purchased both loaves at 10AM on a Sunday morning and they were consumed within 2.5 hours, so I don't think it's an issue with storage. I ate a bit of their regular foccacia at a work event too. It has a good crispy exterior and is salted well on the top. Unfortunately the interior isn't the best, having a really dense, chewy crumb. I'm honestly not sure what happened. I really loved The Cottage when I first moved here 1.5 years ago. Now? I have a number of bakeries I'd choose over here in a heartbeat.

In long My little coffee side trips in this neighborhood will continue for a while. I'm now regularly in Edmonds with just enough time to grab a cup. This is the first sit-down place I've hit. I had just enough time to get something to go. It's a modest older building a couple blocks away from the main drag, and in Edmonds, a couple blocks is all you need for serious peace and quiet. On a Monday afternoon, there wasn't even much vehicle traffic on the road outside, but the locals were out in force--couples, groups, everybody cheerful. All ages. There are maybe 20 seats in here, with that many more outside. First thing you see when you walk in is the little farmer's-market type merch display that some local independent coffee shops often seem to have. Stickers, mugs, hats. I am anti-clutter overall, but still a sucker for stickers and mugs, and almost bought some stuff here. The kids behind the counter are super nice, super upbeat without being overcaffeinated. Very warm and genuine. My sister and I took our time puzzling through exactly what we wanted and the dude was smiling the whole time, got the order down perfectly. Couple minutes later it was ready. The drip coffee was fantastic, really hit the spot for my sis. It was late in the day so I got a heavily modified cup of tea (bergamot with lavender, something else, and almond milk). I've never had tea any way but black, ever, and this was delicious. I've never had tea with a cute name, either--"Edmonds Fog"--but that just made it easier to order. We were out the door with that and a really tasty jam biscuit for under $15. When I have time to park and go in to order, this place will be tough to beat for sure.

I ordered my usual Mocha Breve, and the coffee was surprisingly good - great flavor and just the right temperature. But let's chat about the service... As some reviews suggested, the service was a major letdown! The front servers seemed more annoyed than a cat in a bath. I asked for a bagel on the side, and both servers were less than thrilled to help me or even mention that I had to toast it myself! Apparently, there's a DIY toasting station for your pastries. The kicker? I ended up tipping 15% even though I did pretty much all the work - toasting the bagel and spreading the cream cheese. Which btw the bread even toasted is hard as a rock! It's a local joint, and the lady next to me clearly a local , was practically tapping her foot, trying to rush me as I waited for the cashier to make sure she's ready to take my order. Would I recommend this place? You might have a different experience so go. Am I gonna do a drive to comeback probably not. Don't believe the hype.
