But today, after reading on your site that you accept dogs I figured I'd bring my 2 small well mannered pups in while I intended to get a much needed lunch break while my AC here on the island is being replaced after sweating it out in our place since Saturday. Walked in, asked a waitress where people with dogs should sit , was directed to outside porch which I thought would work perfect. I watched as 1 waiter, 1 waitress , helped the 2 tables out there and totally ignored me! I mean, no acknowledgment!. Come on! Either u accept pets or not, but if u don't, then don't advertise it! I left the restaurant hungry. This restaurant is definitely not worthy of a 4. I ordered the fried oysters which came with a choice of fries or coleslaw for $21. The oysters were small. I think for that price they could afford to cut down on the coleslaw and give you a plate of fries. I also think if they didn't have to pay so much staff to stand around doing nothing they could afford to give their customers a little more food. read more

I'm only writing this review based on the drinks we had! We didn't have the time to get food. The view is beautiful! We went on an Wednesday around 3 and the place was half way full. Pretty full for an off day and off time! The stairs were pretty steep walking up to the restaurant, but oh well. The staff was super friendly and smiling. The bar was full so we sat looking at the water. We ordered the special for the day, A Rum Runner. It was quick getting out to us and YUMMY. There was definitely rum in there too! Stopped here for dinner with friends. Food options ranged from seafood to typical bar food. Not very upscale but great views. This place took a beating during Hurricane Hermine, but they have done a great job recovering. Had the fried crab claws and fried pickles and they were good but a little greasy. My wife had the fried green tomatoes and the plate looked great. Hope to see this place do bigger things and will try them out again. After a great weekend in Crystal River we decided to stop in Cedar Key for dinner on our way back home. Best decision all weekend. It was the perfect ending to our vacation. Okay, everyone likes this place so I thought I'd try it again. My last meal here was just weird, and covered in a separate review, but this time we ordered the old standard cheeseburger - and they were great. Very tasty, and both perfectly done. The fries ordered crispy were just right and the side salad was fresh with a great prickly pear vinaigrette dressing. I had made up my mind I would not eat here again but they may have redeemed themselves with this lunch. I may even eat dinner here. Since I've had one good lunch here and one disastrous one, I'll leave my rating unchanged for now. But I recommend caution, and don't stray too far from the familiar. read more

We drive to Cedar Key to check it out, and decided to try 83 West. They have a good variety of food and a nice view of the water, as it sits right on the water. Jeni was our waitress and was great. I had the shrimp with house made chips and hush puppies and it was really good. The shrimp were huge!! I had the pineapple cider, to drink and it was phenomenal!! This was our first visit since the big renovation and what a great renovation it was. There are now restrooms on both floors that are large, clean and attractive and everything seems to work. The decor is sort of industrial meets seaside casual. You can't beat the view on either floor. Upstairs is only open for dinner now and the elevator for the first time in I'll guess at least ten years works! For those with bad knees this is a huge plus. The menu has undergone an expansion and has some terrific sounding items. I had the crab fluffs appetizer. These were light, really light, crab cakes that had nice size chunks of crab, a crisp light coating and were served with a honey mustard horseradish sauce that was delicious. My husband had the buttermilk fried shrimp basket. Good size, flavorful shrimp with a light breading that didn't dominate the shrimp flavor. But the biggest surprise was the thick, crunchy homemade potato chips in his basket. They were super. I also recommend the Ace pineapple cider. This hard cider is a perfect blend of apple and pineapple flavors and was incredibly refreshing. For another $4 they put some coconut rum in. Next time I'll try that! Our server was pleasant, friendly and fast without being obtrusive and prices were reasonable. You can't go wrong here. read more

Thought we would make it an evening and take a short walk and eat then see the sunset. Walked in to find the upper restaurant closed and We walked into the bar and billiards área . Not many people were there and seemed alittle asleep. Well, was I wrong the service was excellent the food amazing!!!! We had everything from salad to kabobs and fresh sea food. Extremely disappointed. I visited this restaurant back in 2018 with my husband and had a great experience. We came back 10/17/21. Cedar key seafood festival. We brought friends and my mom and were super excited to have another great experience. We expected to have to wait since there were lots of people out.. but we are patient. We got our name on the list and was told it would be 45 minutes or an hour. We walked around came back and was told another 30 minutes. Went and got a drink ( had to wait there as well) came back 20 minutes later and was told we lost our spot. We were able to talk to the hostess and were told we could sit at the bar. Now, I had just gotten my drink from across the street but I was half done. Went up stairs to find three empty tables. I asked if we could sit there and I was told that they were a four person table not five. Then rudely told "you can sit at that table or at the bar"! I'm not moving you to any other table! Ok? Sat happily at the bar me, mom and my girlfriend, our husbands went to the rest room. As we are talking amongst ourselves, we are looking at the bar tender checking his tickets and shaking his head. He never acknowledged us. I decided to comment on the fact he was putting on a band aid and he responded m, "Yup" and continued his ticket review. Finally acknowledging us and giving us some menus. Went on to demand that we had to hurry up and drink those drinks or we need to chuck them. I calmly explain our wait time and how we got thirsty and we were almost done and this child, decided to tell me how it's the law and their rules. He clearly was upset and I know it wasn't because of us. We just sat down. I then stated that if that was a law and rule. The hostess, that clearly saw my drink should have mentioned it( hey by the way). So we patiently walked up and out. I understand that you are under staffed, tired, and had a bad day. But don't take it out on your customers. Especially those that are patient and have been waiting for almost two hours to be seated. This clearly was a situation of it's not what you say but how you say it.. if we had been approached differently starting with the hostess I'm sure the experience would have been better. To be fair, we have eaten there before and were very satisfied. We went on Sunday, the last day of the 2018 Cedar Key Seafood Festival. It was very croided, as expected. The hostess, who was obviously very stressed out and a little confused, told us it would be an hour. She took my phone number, and we decided to visit a few vendor booths. We returned in about r5 minutes. The hostess said we were about an hour out. Then she mumbled something about three of us, and that hour turned into "a table is ready" as she explained their standard wait-time answer given was "one hour". To make a long story short, our food was almost room temperature and not appetizing (the numbers got mixed up, they said). The waitress looked like she was about to keel over or fall asleep. The waiter sold us on the catch of the day Mutton Snapper which we had fried with their sweet potato fries and their take on coleslaw which was surprising good. After a very long wait and multiple times asking about the order, I received a burger patty that looked and tasted worse that what I could have gotten at McDonald's. A very thin patty which was burnt on one side and barely seared on the other. When the manager came to check on us I said the burger was not great, she told me that's not how we serve it. Due to my severe food allergy I was unable to order the burger how it was prepared as on the menu and that was her excuse for serving me a $14 over cooked McDonald's patty. She did however graciously reduced the price from the $14 southern burger they had charged me for to the $9 cheaper version of their burger. Unsure why when I ordered a patty with unions only I would have been charged the higher price to begin with. After first enjoying 83 West shortly after they opened last year, we were heartbroken for the 83 West team (and all of CK) after Hermine hit. In November, we were thrilled to return and see the upstairs was open while they had the downstairs closed...and to our surprise and ultimate luck when vacationing there last week, the downstairs was open with a limited menu for a few days as they are close to completion! We were able to get a few games of pool in which was awesome. Without a doubt, best views in CK. Nice, clean, updated (which it was before the hurricane, too), a delicious food and drink menu and great seafood! The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, and Shannon and Jordan sure do work hard to keep exceed expectations from how long you wait for a table, timing of food, presentation, unique options all while still being able to get a good hand pattied burger, to coloring books and crayons for kids. As a vacationing guest in CK for 10 years, it's a welcomed addition to the special town we love to visit! Our two kids LOVE 83 West as well. Keep up the great work... read more

Awful, horrible service! We walked in, a server yelled "sit anywhere." So we strolled past the bar and sat down near a window. Too bad that we couldn't enjoy the view due to the opaque shades covering the windows. We waited ten minutes before I got up and grabbed some menus. After another seven minutes passed, a bartender came to our table and took our drink order. The already ridiculous wait time dragged on. No one in our group could figure out why our uncomplicated drink order of iced tea, lemonade, and water was taking so long. We looked over to the bar and checked to see if the drinks were ready, but instead we see the bartender serving drinks and explaining the menu with two customers that had just sat down. Why on heaven's earth wouldn't you tell the new patrons that a table is waiting for service and you would take care of them in a moment? Anyway, at this point we were tired of sitting there feeling neglected (and thirsty)- we walked out. Yep, we left abruptly, never even tried the food. We walked down the street, had a great meal, spent approximately $100. They lost our business tonight and any chance of future visits. I'm not a local here at Cedar Key but I am close enough that when I return I'll be sure to never spend a penny in this establishment. The most frustrating thing about this visit is that the restaurant wasn't even overly busy. Ended up at 29 North at 83 West with my family to celebrate mother's day. It has been some time since I was in Cedar Key last. It was actually a sad sight because there was still visible damage left behind from Hurricane Irma. Which does have a little bit to do with my review. Upon entering 29 North, it was a pleasant atmosphere not over crowded with tables and chairs everywhere and with a lot of people. This could be alarming because it could make you question if the food is any good. I had ordered the buttermilk fried shrimp on a biscuit with pepper jelly and fresh cut strawberries. Not something you would expect to see on a menu, but I am always open to adventure. Even our server was not sure of this dish as he had not had it before, but did say people love it. WOW! What was not to like about this southern fish town sandwich? The shrimp were fried perfectly, the strawberries as fresh as could be, and the locally made jelly was right amount of spice. I did not mention the biscuit because that is in a league of its own. The biscuit is not standard to what you expect to find in the south. This was a thin biscuit that was cut in half to hold all the previously mentioned ingredients and toasted on the inside, just like it were a hamburger bun. AMAZING! The family and myself finished off the meal with a key lime cake and coffee creme brulee. Both were great, but I have to side with the key lime cake! This was an amazing experience that was presented to us by our server who happen to own a restaurant that was down the street, but had lost it due to Hurricane Irma. This really made our meal special because even though his establishment was gone, he stuck around in Cedar Key as he is taking care of his mother. It is going to take more than a hurricane to move this special individual that made our experience one I will never forget. It's really a damned shame that I have to give this place three stars instead of the five it nearly deserved. Went there today for lunch with three couples. Everything that was ordered was a 5/5. From the smoked fish dip and sweet potato waffle fries we ordered for apps, the cheesesteak, shrimp & clam pasta, the pecan goat cheese salad with grilled redfish add-on, you name it, all fantastic. Even the key lime cake for dessert was top notch. The problem came when we got our bill. After splitting into three separate checks for the three couples, the restaurant felt the need to add a 20% tip to each of the checks. Although that's what the server would've gotten from us anyway, it was tactless and shows that the restaurant doesn't trust it's own employees to provide great service. THEN they tacked on a 3.5% surcharge for "non-cash transactions". We get it, it costs a lot of money to process credit cards, but that's how people typically pay for $75 lunch bills, not with cash. Here's a tip for the owners - FACTOR IN CREDIT CARD PROCESSING COSTS IN YOUR MENU PRICES instead of nickel and diming people. The menu prices here are not inexpensive, I think you can handle the processing costs. And if you're actually paying 3.5% you need to do a better job of selecting processors. Unfortunately, because of these bush league business practices we'll be hitting up the other dining options next time we're in Cedar Key read more
