We were here with my brother-in-law and wife visiting from Arizona. We had an early dinner with a beautiful gulf view and sunset sky. The fried shrimp and hush puppies were some of the best ever! The palm salad , a Cedar Key classic, was enough for the four of us to share. Fried redfish and grilled were great. The shrimp and grits were tastey but a little oily. We all started with their clam chowder and loved it. How were we going to make room for dessert?? I was intrigued with their key lime cake being a bit of a cake junkie. So we got it to go and enjoyed it immensely the next day wishing we had gotten four pieces instead of two to share! Overall a great experience, friendly helpful staff, a nice space. I went here with 3 of my friends and to say the least it was a miserable experience. It started out with having a very rude waitress. She spent half of her time talking to her boyfriend and drinking his beer. It took about 30 minutes for us to even get our chips and salsa and that was after we had to ask twice to make sure the order was actually put in. They ran out of hushpuppies and the meals are supposed to come with 2 each. Instead of asking if we would like another side to replace our missed food, they did nothing. I believe it was the manager who came over to us and was very rude and made us feel unwanted. Overall I wish I could go back in time and never eat here again after that horrible service. I would rather eat at my college dining hall everyday than go here again. read more

Second time here and absolutely amazing experience. The food and drinks are creative, fresh, and so reasonable for the obvious quality. Each time have we have fresh catch of the day, and the fish is beyond delicious. The sides are absolutely delicious but think I have to say the cheddar grits and spicy tomatoes is just beyond. Shrimp and grits were so so yummy. For my sisters birthday, I pre-ordered a key lime cake, and it was just amazing. You HAVE to get dessert. This place has a great view but even though there were multiple empty tables, the hostess wouldn't seat our party of 4 due to a "backup" in the kitchen. Even though we said we would be happy to wait if we could be seated, she said no & was just "following orders." Not wanting to stand for 15-20 minutes, we walked out. We went to 83 West for their Wing special. After waiting at least 30 minutes or more the waitress delivered the wings and apologized that it took so long. When my husband bit into a wing it was blood red at the bone. He called the waitress over and she took them back to the kitchen. The cook came to our table and said we had only bit into a blood vein. He didn't offer to cook them a little longer or offer a substitute. Consequently we didn't eat them but paid the bill and left. We attempted to eat here tonight. However, after seating us outside for a pre-dinner beverage we were first told it would be a 20 minute wait for a table inside. Then, we were told that the kitchen could not take additional orders for 45 minutes. We arrived at 7:15. We departed at 8:30, hungry. The menu looks delicious. The venue and view are lovely. I would like to return when the servers are properly trained and the kitchen can actually accommodate us. read more

Food was good but service was somewhat slow. However when my daughter ordered fish tacos she was brought shrimp tacos. We we told the server of the error the server said she said shrimp - my daughter does not eat shell fish and definitely did not order shrimp. Waitress must not have owned the mistake bc the manager brought the tacos back to the table and said we had to pay for them. I have never been treated like this in a restaurant before. So as not to make a scene or make my daughter feel bad we accepted it and moved on. Terrible customer service. read more

Great view. Great Food. Waitress was funny and friendly. Service was very bad. We ordered drinks and appetizers that came in 30 minutes. Ordered our food that came within an hour. We had to go to the bar to get more drinks. Had to go to the bar to ask for our bill then had to take the bill up front to pay. All in all it took 3 hours to have lunch. We had lunch here today. Currently only the downstairs area is open. It has recently been remodeled and it looks very nice. There are tables next to the windows with great views. There are also tables outside. I wanted the pineapple cider and they were out of it. We ordered the crab cake sliders and they came out quickly and they were very tasty. We ordered the shrimp platter, shrimp and grits, wings and fries. It took 50 minutes for the food to come out (which is too long). The food was very hot when it came out (very good). The food tasted good and all seemed to be homemade (even the ranch and tarter sauce). The shrimp platter only comes with 9 shrimp, the one pictured has 6 extra shrimp ($6 more). The hush puppies are okay, they have sausage in them which I do not particularly care for. I had the cheese grits as a side and they were okay. The grits seemed to have chunks of hominy or corn in them (not my preference) they didn't really taste cheesy. The sweet potato waffle fries were excellent. The fried shrimp and shrimp and grits were both delicious. While we were eating it started raining and the windows started leaking on to us and our table. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. In the ladies restroom, 2 of the 3 stalls were missing the lock on the door. They are working on the upstairs dining area. The staff said they hoped it would be open in a few weeks. Overall the food was very good but the restaurant itself needs some minor improvements. I hope to return when the upstairs area is open. read more

Great location with beautiful view. Very new, open (big vaulted ceilings), & inviting. We ended up eating dinner here twice on a recent visit and both times meals & apps were outstanding. Great bar if you are just grabbing a drink. The menu has lot of variety and there are a lot of lower cost options...burgers & po boys as well as a higher end seafood on the menu. Best described as seafood with a southern flair. Kid friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Love this place. I like the upstairs when open during season. I love the downstairs with the pool tables. Very fresh and clean establishment. We have had the burgers which are amazing, fresh and local beef. The hand battered chicken fingers are amazing and the best I have ever had. Have enjoyed playing pool and watching others having fun playing. Downstairs is bar service only. This means you order you food and drinks at the bar. A server will bring the food out for you. The menu is very different from other places which is nice. Fresh air from open doors is refreshing during our cooler Florida months. Other items on the menu is the biggest grill cheese sandwich, mullet dip, shrimp basket just to name a few things. Nice young couple own the place. We love to support mom and pop places. Currently 83 West has a spectaculer gift certificate for the holiday deal. A must try. read more

We scored the corner waterfront table past the bar, with windows to the floor to watch the pelicans & cormorants vie for piling space as entertainment as the sun set & Ibis flocks flew into Arsenal Otie Key! The Minorcan Chowder was the best food we've had in Cedar Key yet & chips side dish we're delish. My scallop skewer appetizer beat the 1/2 pound peel & eat shrimp. The hubby's Red Fish sandwich was again, just OK. With a town focused on fishing, you'd expect a couple places to rock some signature dishes. read more

83 West has made a remarkable comeback since Hurricane Hermine destroyed their business less than a year ago. There is no better view for dining on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. Shannon and Jordan have done an amazing job of creating a varied menu that highlights fresh from the Gulf seafood. We vacation there every year and met them for the first time last July. They greet us by name and treat us like family, and are patient and entertaining with our grands, ages 4 and 5. read more

Food was good. Service was lousy. We wanted have a couple of drinks and some appetizers while we shot pool. We had a table so we assumed somebody would acknowledge us and ask if we needed anything. Nope. We had to go to the bar to order our food and drinks. The first drinks we ordered we paid cash. When I went to the bar to order another drink the bartender seemed a little irritated when I asked her to add it to my food tab. The only time someone came to our table is to drop off the food (we ordered from the bar) and to drop off our check. Not once did they ask if we wanted another drink or wanted to order more food. Hope they weren't expecting a big tip. Very disappointing. read more

Had lunch here yesterday with my sister. Giving it four stars for not having enough vegan options. But the portobello sandwich was amazing. Chef Kyle is the bomb and has an awesome personality to go with it. If you're in Cedar Key you must give this place a try. We went here during our vacation. We thought that the view was wonderful, the service was outstanding, and our server was great. The manager came by with an authentic concern about our experience (not just going through the "table touch" motions). The food was good. My daughter (10.5 years old) thought the burger and fries were delicious. This place should do very well, because it is obvious that the people who manage it care about their people. This waterfront restaurant was wonderful. Looking out over the Gulf was very peaceful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered a grill cheese for the kids and they thought it was wonderful. Large enough to split between the two of them. I ordered a burger and it was super juicy. Ordered steak for my wife tonight on our first night at 83west requesting that it be cooked medium. Meal was well presented, but rare, and after letting the served that I wanted it refired to medium it went back to the kitchen. When it came back out it was still red. A short time later they cook came out to tell us that he disagreed with us sending it back in because he checked the temperature and it was measured at 135°. Asked him to cut the meat and look inside and he will see that it is not cooked medium. Again, he said I disagree with you I measured it at 135°. At this point he walked away saying nothing else. I've cooked many is steak in my career and never what I cook medium to 135°, at least 150 to 155° . It's a shame that we had to be told two times that we were wrong and that he was right and that will be the last trip to 83 W. read more

We went based on reviews and had such an awful experience. I have never had staff (and supposed owners) treat guest in the manner we were treated. The supposed owner Shannon, literally, yelled at us across the room. Just beware the staff is not hospitable and lack any type of training. In guest experience. I've never seen such bad customer service. We just left this restaurant... The server was extremely nice, but we had an issue with our food. The server took our plate and offered to get us something different because she didn't want us eating something we didn't want/like... A few minutes later the manager came to our table(after the waitress already had taken our plate) and told us that the food was perfectly fine, insulted us. and then said he would not be offering a replacement or taking anything off the bill. Remember the server already took our entire meal. So we still were charged for our entire meal yet wasn't able to eat any of it, even the sides. I have never in my life seen a restaurant manager act and treat there customers this way.... Horrible customer service. We will not be returning. read more
