Trung's tattoo service was great! This was my first ever tattoo & I'm glad that he was the one to provide that for me. Service: Trung was always ready to answer any questions I had given that this was my first tattoo ever. Found him through researching tons of artists & their past pieces on Yelp, & noticed that I really liked his Japanese style art. I took 2 past pieces of his art that I really liked, then asked if he could create something similar. He agreed & sent me the sketch a day before my in person appointment. Trung was very caring/always checked in to see how the pain was, & asked if I wanted any breaks during the session. He's a super chill guy & I'd definitely be willing to come back for another one! Vibe: It's a small clean studio where other artists/apprentices share the space as well. I really enjoyed the many funko pop/decorative pieces and it really seems like their clients appreciate their works based on the thank you cards/mementos they display in the studio. Tattoo: I'm gonna be honest, I had no expectations going into this, so I'm coming from a very chill/you do you kinda pov. I wanted to make sure Trung could have the creative freedom to do what he does best. Although he added extra leaves/I thought that the tattoo might've been bigger than expected, I trusted his expertise in knowing what would look best on my body. Before I knew it, I had a gorgeously amazing looking flower that shaped my arm perfectly just as he envisioned. I still cannot believe that this is my arm ngl, but I guess I have my entire life to figure that out! Thank you so much Trung! Keep doing what you do best!
My first time at 820 was an absolute blast! Nicki was willing to go above and beyond in everything, even for the simpler yet subtle things like tattoo placement so that it looks best on my arm. Her line work and shading techniques are very good imo, and I could feel the confidence in the way she executed things. She also changed the original design so that the dragon scales would look a LOT better (see pic)! Personality-wise, Nicki was very friendly and professional - she even offered me and my guest food for lunch during session breaks, and stayed positive until the very end of our 5-hour appointment. The studio was cozy enough, and it was wholesome seeing staff sharing meals and taking shots together :) I'm just very happy I chose 820 for my first big piece, and I'll definitely be back for more in the nearest future.
This was my first time getting a service done at 820 Studio, such a cute and welcoming space! I booked an appointment today for a navel piercing (via text) and they got me in the same day! Nhi was really nice and very informative when it came to aftercare instructions and what to expect during the piercing service itself. She brought a very comforting vibe which definitely helped ease the nerves. Thank you so much, Nhi (you're the sweetest!) and 820 Studio for providing such a great, quick, and easy experience! I love my new piercing so much, will definitely be back in the future :))
Updated review because I started seeing Trung two years ago and we have come a long way with my sleeve!! I love His work and the true passion for his craft. I also love that his family comes in and there is an overall family vibe throughout the shop. His work is worth it, and my tattoos have healed amazing for fine lines. It's actually crazy how good it looks and it all healed evenly. I got these all spread out months apart so it's cool to see how they all look the same. Overall love 820 studios and will be booking with Trung very soon
The level of detail and care Trung puts into his work is amazing. I got a 7-8 in piece done and he took just less than 5 hrs. The other artists were also amazed by how much detail and quality was required for the piece but Trung did everything in one session. Everyone at the studio was also very friendly and I had a great time. Would definitely come back. 10/10 recommended.
I've been a loyal Client of Trung since June 2018. 6 years To be with one artist is a very long time to be with. To the point now that He tattoos my family and my Friends as well. Why else would I recommend him if his work was not of great superb quality. His attention to detail and how he makes you feel and what you think is at his most importance. If you select Trung to be your artist you will not be disappointed at all. He has ever only been my Tattoo artist and will be my only artist. Even if I move away I for sure will come back to him or Fly him out to me. Trung love for the art itself is the reason why he is the best at what he does and the fact that he is humble and kind. Received my newest tattoo from Nicki yesterday 8/8. I am beyond happy with my results. Obsessed even. The tattoo I chose was from Nicki's flash, 100% her design. I appreciate the time she dedicated to me as it was a 6hr appt. Her patience and attention to detail was everything. As you can see in the photo there was ALOT of detail. If you're looking for a precise tattoo- nicki is the way to go. She's great at micro tattooing as well as a larger scale like mine, and even some larger than mine. There is lots of skill in this tattoo studio and I would definitely not only recommend, but will be coming back for more myself. Thank you again Nicki, you've been the sweetest!!

Returning customer here. Nicki... the artist you are!! I requested a half sleeve with my horrific sketch of a koi fish and Nicki pat my head and said: "i can fix your life and that design too." Next thing i knew was that i got a koi sleeve that look 100 times better than what i wouldve ever expected based on the shitty reference i got. The lineworks, the redesign, everything!!! Long overdue review! I got my snake thigh tattoo done Jan 2021 from trung and I absolutely LOVEEEE! So talented and he was very attentive to detail and giving my tattoo the perfect placement to accent and go with my body! It is one of my favorite and biggest pieces by far! Everyone always ask where I got it from and I always recommend them to trung whenever friends ask for Asian style pieces. I received so many compliments from it. He does a lot of large pieces which I love and definitely want to get more done in the future! Found him from a friend who also got a tattoo from him and immediately saw his work and wanted one for myself as well. You won't regret it!!! :)

820 Studio and all of its staff are a very Professional, Creative, and a down to Earth team that will collaborate and work with your ideas to create a masterpiece to your liking. From start to finish of my 6 day, 6-7 Hour sessions they all made me feel at home and kept me laughing throughout. They are not only talented artists but a family to me and I truly hope to work with Trung and his team again in the future. I would highly recommend this tattoo shop over any other. Flying 2 and a half hours to San Jose was a Blessing in disguise. I didn't know what to expect at first but in the end I'm glad that I chose 820 Studio. Trung's vision and amazing freehand work along with his talented team make the trip worthwhile. You can't go wrong.

Trung did all my tattoos about five years ago, and I recently reached out to him to get a new piece. I would only trust him with my tattoos. Unfortunately, he's been fully booked and now focuses on larger pieces, so he wasn't available for mine. However, he introduced me to his colleague, Diem. I showed them what I had in mind, and Diem came up with an even better idea for my tattoo. It turned out amazing--she did a fantastic job. She was also very polite and answered all my questions. I haven't gotten any tattoos since Trung did my last one five years ago, but I will definitely come back for more from the artists here. They are highly skilled and really understand what you want. The pricing is also reasonable. The vibe in the shop is very quiet and warm. Diem even played great music while I was getting tattooed. 1000/10 read more

I HIGHLY recommend 820 studio. I decided to get my first tattoo and decided on the owner Trung for the work. It was going to be my first piece but I wanted to go big and decided to do a full sleeve including my chest and shoulder blade. Every session has been great; his work quality is amazing and the detail is top-notch. I often get compliments on my tattoos from friends, patients, and random people when I am out. Trung himself is very personable and easy to talk to. Conversing with him makes the session go by quickly. I feel like I found the perfect artist and made a friend along the way In terms of professionalism, Trung is very responsive to questions and is willing to work with his clients on what their designs should look like. He gives no push back when asked to redesign some of the pieces if something doesn't fit your style or isn't to your liking. He doesn't make you feel like a bother if ask to reposition or change things up. He has a very light hand so the pain and bleeding is minimal. The Studio itself is clean and well-kept. The atmosphere is very welcoming and light-hearted. All of the artists are easy to talk to. I often see Austin, another of the artists there, during my session and we talk throughout the day along with Trung and his own client. I liked my experience here so much that I am having Trung start and complete my leg sleeve next year once we finish my arm . In addition to this, I also recommended him to my wife who got her first tattoo and decided to do a full thigh piece. Photos of his work for us are posted below. read more

This tattoo and piercing shop is one of the best in SJ. It's fairly new but the quality of the work is amazing. You can tell they are talented artists. My artist is Trung and he is the best! He is very patient and fun to talk to. I have gotten 4 of my tattoos done from him. Big pieces is his specialty with Japanese Modern style and he is really good at what he does. He always communicates with you and makes sure the design is perfect for you but also he incorporates his ideas too. The vibes of the place is really chill. He makes sure you are comfortable and would ask if you want to play your music. I had my big back piece done him and after 7 sessions later it was worth it. Drove all the way from Sacramento just to get his work done. I had this piece done back in end 2021 and finally finished in February 2023. I had reschedule a few times but he is willing to coordinate with you. But make sure you get in as soon as you can because he is very busy and booked on months in advance! He posts his rates and hours on his IG page and he's getting better each time. He's very sweet and awesome to talk to. The other tattoo artists are very nice as well with amazing work. After my last tattoo session I last minute decided to get a piercing with Nhi. She was kind of enough to squeeze me. I got a conch piercing from her and she charged me $30 at the time. I really appreciated Nhi being very friendly and sanitary in her station. She was also very informative with the piercing and after care process. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a tattoo and would coming back again! read more

Trung did the dragon last year and I returned to him this year for the snake. I could not be happier with how it turned out! He made the experience such a smooth and easy process and I'm so glad I went to him for my arm. He was super informative and professional the entire time, but also made my time there fun. I got a crane with some spider lilies on my forearm with Austin. Absolutely in love with this piece and I can't stop looking at it! Austin is super-easy going and is new to the shop. He has a good eye for placement, even making sure you have room for future pieces. Upon making the decision for placement, he had some really good suggestions and I couldn't be more happy with the work he put in. I sent him a piece that I really liked while explaining how I wanted it to flow, he revised the image into something very similar, and made it into a reality for me. Later, he gave me an estimate about how many sessions it will take along with a financial estimate then we booked it. In person, Austin is very attentive and diligent about his art; he's always looking at the stencil with the intention of putting himself into your shoes to see if you'll really like it where it is. He doesn't hesitate to change anything about the piece to fit your preference. As Austin peeked at it more and more, he saw my vision about how I wanted the piece to sit/flow and that's how I knew I wouldn't regret anything. Service: Throughout the session, Austin always made sure I was comfortable even with the way I had to set myself up for the piece. He consistently asked me what my pain level was, if I needed any breaks, or to offer me water. He was always prepared to answer any type of question I had, whether or not it was about the tattoo. The artists at this shop are so professional, yet caring and easy to get along with. They are the type of people that look out for not just their customers but each other, which is a rarity. Here, I also met Trung, another tattoo artist of the shop, who introduced himself to me even though I wasn't his client. It made me feel so much more welcomed and invited. He constantly checked up on me and Austin with the progress of the tattoo. He gave him suggestions as we went along with the piece, and it was reassuring that he had another set of hands/ears/mind when he needed it. A lot of smiles and laughs were shared that day. The 820's studio is a place that's easily earned my trust. Anybody who walks into that shop is going to have a great day. You guys will definitely see me more in the future! read more

If you've ever been hesitating to book an appointment, do yourself a favor and book with Trung right away. He had a couple days that opened up and I reached out to him for a back piece I was thinking about to see if he would be able to work me in. He was able to fit me in for a back to back session and I absolutely love the artwork. I've had this inspiration picture saved for about 8 years and always hesitated to pull the trigger until I found the right artist and Trung is definitely the one. Not only is he extremely talented and a master at his craft, but he is extremely professional and always checked in on how the pain was for me and took a couple breaks during the session. He's also very welcoming and easy to talk to. I wanted some changes on the initial design he made for me and they were done to perfection. 10/10 recommend and definitely going to be saving up to book another appointment here. read more

If you want an artist of this quality and skillset, expect a year plus waitlist from other studios. The fact that this studio is consistently available even just a few months ahead, it'd be criminal not to book asap.
