I got a tattoo from Jayden about 3 weeks ago. First of all, the service was amazing. Everyone there was very nice. Some shops have that old school, tough guy thing going on that can make some people feel almost unwelcome but that was not the case here. I was immediately welcomed. I set up my appointment with Jayden through her Instagram page and honestly knew right away this was going to work. She was excited to work on the piece and was very clear with her communication. The tattoo itself is absolutely gorgeous! This was a piece I had put off getting because it's a cat and sometimes cats (specifically cat faces) are hard to do. I'm so glad I waited until I found the right artist. I'm definitely going back for more animals tattoos and maybe I'll even start my travel tattoos too. Also, the vibes are immaculate. Think gothic, macabre with some dark academia. read more

I had such an amazing experience with Jayden for my chrysanthemum tattoo! I found her page on Instagram and could tell her skills and style would be something perfect for this project. She did such a great job being patient with my specific requests during our consultation and did an incredible job bringing the drawing to life :) I told her I was a bit nervous since it was my first custom tattoo, but she did the best job ever making it exactly what I wanted. Jayden is super communicative, accommodating, and friendly. The piece is almost fully complete, and I can't wait to come back to finish the process once I've healed more. The vibe of the studio and staff here was amazing as well. Everyone was super nice and the place was very comfortable and chill to be tattooed in! read more

Annie did an amazing job! My tat looks great and she made sure of that by adjusting the design both digitally and physically on my body. There was a lot of trial and error before we got it just right. By far the easiest tat I've ever gotten. Not too painful, the healing was easy, and it looks sick! Thank you so much for your time and effort. Pic is from 2.5 weeks after getting it done. read more

Came here for a session with Heather, my dream artist, and I could not have had a better experience! The parking situation is a bit tight as the plaza is shared with a Wingstop and other businesses; I had no issues getting a spot though. Coordination of the appointment was so easy. I contacted Heather online and got a slot for the next day as she had available time. I came in for a big design on my thigh. I came in at noon and stayed until 9 PM. I was given plenty of breaks and she even got me a snack from the convenience store nearby. I loved how much she paid attention to detail, and she went lengths to. make me feel comfortable. All of the artists were so friendly. The bathrooms and other spaces were clean. I enjoyed browsing the flash design book at the front of the store during my break. I definitely recommend coming here for a tatt! read more

Amazing experience from start to finish. Nathan was incredible -- super welcoming, easy to talk to, and clearly takes a lot of pride in his work. The shop was clean, the vibe was comfortable, and communication was great the entire time. The tattoo came out absolutely perfect with clean lines and great detail, exactly what I wanted. You can tell Nathan really cares about both his art and his clients. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work and good energy. read more

My husband and I got matching tattoos back in October with an artist. We had a great quick experience as the tattoo was pretty basic. We were told we had a 6month touch up policy but when we inquired about the touch up several times our request has yet to be un answered. While the service we received the day of was great the policy and inquiry has been poor. I am very dissatisfied with the lack of response I have received and for this i would not recommended coming back. read more

I love this tattoo shop with my whole heart. The last time I was here was last year on Friday the 13th. Got to pick from two sheets of designs (which were all REALLY good designs), I couldn't decide so I asked for help. The artists were SO kind and and I didn't feel uncomfortable at any point. Inside it's clean, roomy, and the music is nice:) The artist I had was Brandon, he did a really good job and I'm a difficult person to tattoo because I'm squeamish but he did nice. My friend got tattooed by Chase, she really liked hers as well:) mine healed really well, it didn't blowout either which is what I was concerned about! When I want more work done, I'm definitely coming here. read more

I know I'm writing this review a few years later. I got my first tattoo with Chase on February 14, 2022. My grandma had just passed away a few days before and I wanted to get a tattoo for her. I got the date and time she passed and a little coffee cup for my tattoo.. since it was my first tattoo I didn't know what to expect.. I had my friend take a picture of the stencil once it was on and it looked good.. well so i thought... I absolutely loved the tattoo once it was finished. I noticed a few days later that the little coffee cup I got was extremely slanted. I did tell him I wanted it a little slanted but I didn't think it was extremely slanted it looks like it's falling off my tattoo. I wish I was able to stand in the mirror and see what it looked like but I was not offered that.. Now that my tattoo is fully healed and almost 3 years old the ink spread super bad. My tattoo does not feel like regular skin you can actually feel the tattoo it's almost like braille. I later came to find out from other tattoo artist that Chase went too deep which caused my tattoo to be almost like braille.. i wish I did my research instead of finding the first place and just taking it. read more

I've been going to Black Lantern Tattoo since 2021 and they are the only tattoo shop I frequent now! It's about a 2-hour drive from where I live but incredibly worth it. The shop itself has very talented, friendly, and experienced artists, the space is always clean, and they had great covid safety measures in place to make their clients feel safe and comfortable! Specifically, I love my artist Heather! She has created pieces for me that I never would have dreamed of having! She works with my style and ideas and draws me pieces that I'm proud and excited to get tattooed! She's also super accommodating with my schedule and is so sweet! Definitely try out this shop for custom work, I recommend it to everyone who asks me about my tattoos! read more

Amazing. I'm picky. It takes a long time for me to hunt down the right artist. I was looking for someone with the ability to capture the real aspects of an image and in black and white, etch it into eternity. Brandon was polite, cordial, professional and so incredibly chill. Over the course of each session, I saw the extent of the professionalism he has running his shop. He has high standards. All the artists at this shop run a clean ship. Brandon's work is exactly what I wanted, if not better, working from photographs I'd taken myself. I honestly can't speak loud enough praises. The priorities are always to find a clean shop with an artist who does the type of work you want. The added chill environment of the color and decor, and the easy going artists is icing on the top. Oh, and the price point is right on. read more

I've been coming to Heather ever since she was an apprentice here, and I try to come back every chance I get! She's insanely skilled and I can't say enough about all the work and overtime she's put into my pieces. Even when I've struggled to explain my vision or find proper references, she's somehow taken my ideas and executed them better than I ever could have described. Her style is unique and it's not something I had been able to find before, so if you get a chance to book with her, DO IT! Not only is she a talented artist but she's also very comfortable to work with, which is something I really appreciate. She always makes sure you're happy with the placement and final touches, comfortable throughout and getting breaks if you need them. The shop as a whole is also very welcoming and clean, always has good music or a show on, and if you're lucky you might also get a little animal therapy with the shop dog while you wait. read more

Quality tattoos, amazing service, prime location, what more could you ask for? All three of these pieces were done by Kim. This is my second time working with her and the third is not long from now. Kim's your girl if you want quality art that lasts. She's very thorough and is happy to explain and answer questions before and during the procedure, but my advice: just let her do her thing. This lady knows what she's doing. Thank you Kim! Looking forward to continuing to work with you. read more

Don't come here for piercings period. I called in to see if I could get a piercing done after work like a week before Christmas. Guy said ok give me 30 boom it's all cool. I come in it's empty and quiet etc. guy brings me back and I fill out the form on the tablet and we do placement everything is normal what ever. But the guy does not speak the entire time doesn't mention anything about caring for the piercing products to use etc. You are supposed to research the piercing ofc and know how to take care of it but regardless every single piercing I've gotten came with a paper, products to buy etc. Maybe thats just how the shops in chicago operate but the vibes are super good the entire time unlike here. The guy cut the dermal hole way too big and took a lot of time like it was his first dermal, didn't give me a bandaid to cover it nothing. It was super awkward and weird so I just left after. The piercing fell out in my car on the way home. I was like whatever and popped it back in and did my own thing. Well dermals reject very easily and commonly so a few months in it feels tight etc. I called to get it taken out and the lady working tonight tells me shes going to check if they have the equipment etc then says they dont have the right equipment. It didn't even sound like she checked. I called a shop down the street and the lady that picked up said straight up "are you serious that is fu*king ridiculous". Previously to the piercing I inquired about getting a tattoo by a different guy and he seemed so uninterested and on top of that it was 200$ by hour. I live near by and am all about supporting small and local businesses but this place just keeps giving me the "i dont give a damn" vibes. Its not about the piercing rejecting cause honestly it happens nothing to be angry about but its just the atmosphere and attitude in general. My shit hurts and they cant even take it out. Why add piercings to the list if you dont have all the supplies for everything? read more

I went here to see Katy for her micro blading services. And let me say...seeing her was worth every penny. First of all, the studio is super clean and welcoming! I felt very comfortable waiting. I was also kept company by their sweet dog. When I finally saw Katy, she went over what the process would be and asked me about my concerns regarding my eyebrows. She then took her time to carefully measure out my eyebrows. Once the measurements were done, she showed me to make sure I liked how they looked and then we got started. Fast forward to the end, my eyebrows came out AMAZING!! I could not believe how natural they looked. Seeing Katy was the best decision I've ever made. I HIGHLY recommend going to her! read more

My sister's friend just got a tattoo and my sister told me to check out the artist's Instagram. Her name is Heather. She's just out of her apprenticeship, but honestly I'd never have known. Her work is amazing! I made an appt right away. Super easy to work with...told her my ideas and she drew it up the night before....exactly what I wanted. The location itself is easy to find; right on the corner of Bascom and Camden. Really clean and love the huge windows with nice natural lighting. A huge plus for me is that the owner was there and and right when I walked in, the cutest wiener dog waddled up to me to check me out. Once I got his approval, he just wanted head scratches . I am SO glad I was able to discover this place! My friend had been talking about how great Heather was for a long time, and how much she enjoyed the other artists here. I walked in yesterday after my original artist didn't pan out, and Chase was extremely welcoming and professional. He made sure the sizing and placement was how I envisioned it. I had my favorite prayer, written in my dads handwriting, and he even photoshopped a small smudge the ink made, so that it looked better. He was very engaging and patient with me, which I really appreciated. It was my very first tattoo & I was honestly very nervous, but he made me feel very calm & at ease. I also LOVE how it turned out- couldn't imagine it looking more perfect. Thank you Chase! Will definitely be back soon. read more

I love this shop! The vibe is always so fun and down to earth. You can tell that everyone who works there genuinely respects each other, which gives it a nice atmosphere! Chase has now done three of my tattoos. 2 were touch up/ cover ups in which he completely transformed them. Chase has quoted me correctly on how long each of my tattoos will take (although I've always been aware that you can't always give an exact timing/ pricing estimate; sometimes tattoos take longer than thought or shorter, it all depends). He takes his time with each of my pieces and makes them exactly what I vision! I would recommend any and everyone to go to this shop! On a side note, I would also recommend using numbing cream. (I got a 15 dollar one off Amazon, put it on 3 hours prior to my tattoo appointment, and wrapped in Saran Wrap) I got a tattoo on my spine today and almost fell asleep because I couldn't feel anything. read more

I came to Heather at Black Lantern for my first tattoo, with a custom design from a favorite graphic artist. Heather spotted a handful of things that would make the tattoo come out poorly at the size I wanted to have it, and she proposed some changes that worked beautifully while respecting the original vision. She gave me an accurate quote, was a delight to hang out with for a couple of hours, and was great about talking me through what to expect. The shop was really nice, clean and comfortable, and other staff seemed great too. I would gladly go there for my second. Thanks Heather and Black Lantern! read more

I haven't gotten many tattoos yet, so I worried a lot about going to the right place, right artist, and being able to feel comfortable during the tattoo process. I went here for my second tattoo and got it done by Heather, one of many amazing artists at this location. She did an absolute fantastic job, frequently asked to make sure if I was doing alright and comfortable, and was even so kind to grab me a snack during one of our breaks (since I had it done all in one session and it was my first larger piece). She was extremely sweet, thoughtful, and kind, and she is definitely very talented!
