The program itself was okay, but I didn't get the sense that the instructors took safety or professionalism as seriously as they should. There were moments that felt more like messing around than real training. It's frustrating because I was hoping to start a new career, and now I'm left with half a program and no clear next step. I expected more from a school that talks such a big game.

A lot of dealers these days arent keen on doing that these days. I called them, and they said no problem. They notified me less than an hour after I got the UPS notice that the package arrived at their location. I showed up just a short while later to start the process. Its a nice small shop in a quiet part of town. I really appreciated how chill the atmosphere was. I think it took all of 10 minutes to get the paperwork done, and off I went. 10 days wrapped, and I went for my pickup today. Again, the shop was super chill. Took less than 10 minutes to wrap everything up. Start to finish, the process was painless. Most gun shops are typically not places I'm super comfortable at. They tend to have semi aggressive staff, customers, or both. And they also tend to be very vocal about their political affiliations. VC Armory had none of those things. That alone is going to make them my go to LGS from here on out.

They do not understand all gun laws and there for make their customer jump through more legal hoops than need be. I don't expect every customer to know the laws so they are unaware VC is slightly incompetent. I even pointed out their error but they just raised their voices and yelled at me. In California , when buying a rifle, it is NOT necessary to show two forms of ID. If you have a California True ID (Golden Bear in corner with no restrictions) that is all you need. They insisted I needed more. Here's the law: Only if you have restrictions or are purchasing a hand gun or it's a PO box address etc... is a secondary ID proving address required). But they are so arrogant and elitist blow-hards they wouldn't even turn the page on the form that they used as their proof showing me. I said on the first page it states NO secondary ID required for rifles. But he refused to even look at the 1st page and read where it clearly states the secondary ID rule is ONLY for hand gun sales. So lazy. So every single rifle purchaser that had a California DL True ID with no restrictions and their address correct on the iD was and is made to show a secondary ID. Completely unnecessary so I asked them to send my "receiver(rifle) to their competitor down the street who is up on the law. And they're cheaper too (and very friendly with no attitude. VC waste their customer's time making them jump through hoops needlessly and are very argumentative when you show them the law. Shame. By the way...I had lost my registration for my car and was in the process of renewing my registration so I didn't have it as secondary proof handy and I wasn't going to stand in line at the DMV just to get a copy when they would send me my new one a couple weeks later. Nope. I rather deal with the competent FFL guys down the street. My history: Gun collector of 50 years with over 350 purchases over a lifetime. I was an FFL myself and I am very familiar with the laws. Most gun buyers will assume their FFL knows the laws. Fact: Not all ffl's understand things they read and need it explained to them. We're all human. But when they get arrogant, loud and insistent by refusing to acknowledge they misread their own DOJ documents in front of them....that's just a ignorance and incompetence. These are guys I would think should not be doing their own Taxes let alone filling out gun transfers.

I hear of this place every summer but never had the chance til this week. What a great place for kids to enjoy water play. But actually for the entire family too! We went during free swim time from 12-4pm and it was only $10 for ages 3 and up. There's a big shallow kiddie pool with water activities and then 2 water slides on the back side of the park. There's a rec pool that maybe goes to 4.5 ft depth so it's perfect for just enjoying the water when you can't lap swim because the pool is crowded. A large picnic table area can be found in the middle of the center too so you can being lunch and snacks too. There a larger Olympic size pool on the west end of the center that can be used for lap swimming so overall it's great for all ages and swimming levels. We're planning to be here quite a bit for the summer! There's also cabanas to change into and showers to rinse off before and after swimming.

Even superheroes love this pool!

We hiked out to Paradise Falls, and while the view from a distance had me thinking, "That's it?"... once you get closer, it's actually beautiful. The weather was in the 80s, with the cool breeze made the hike so much more enjoyable (especially on the steeper parts). My pup had the best time too! I would've loved to let him run free, but this isn't an off-leash park. What I really loved is that there are so many different trails. Whether you're in the mood for a quick walk, a jog, or a longer hike, you'll find a route that fits. There were lots of people out enjoying the scenery, and the nearby town has plenty of cute spots to grab a bite afterward. It was such a fun outing. I would totally do it again!

I'm a 60-something active woman. As a young child of 6 or 7, my father introduced me to the sport of target shooting (much to my mother's chagrin). I learned about rifles, shotguns and handguns at a very early age. I spent 13 years in law enforcement, custody division. Recently I began the process of applying for a CCW permit. One of the requirements was a class in proficiency with a licensed NRA instructor. Asking around, I found that Rex Jones of 805CCW was at the top of just about everyone's list. I researched Mr. Jones and was very impressed with his credentials and experience. We made arrangements for the required class. He was extremely amenable and worked to meet my scheduling requirements. We met up on a Sunday morning at an awesome outdoor range in the midst of the Moorpark hillsides. I have to tell you, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was amazed at Mr. Jones' knowledge. He's a very personable guy, and I can't tell you how comfortable he made me feel from the very start. He put me through some exercises and drills like I've never before experienced. He was incredibly supportive and I learned, for the first time, how to be comfortable with my newly purchased weapon (a Bursa Firestorm). I highly recommend Rex Jones for all your firearms training needs, whether you're applying for a CCW permit, or if you just want to hone your skills. Be sure to tell your friends, too! read more

The CCW process can be an intimidating endeavor. There is an abundance of information out there, some good some bad. After going through the required class training, Rex not only put many myths to bed, but brought many realities and thought provoking commentary to light. I valued the 40+ years of experience he brought to the table. Yes, minimum California standard training is required. Yes, I'm sure many people can fill that requirement. Rex, however, went above and beyond. I did oodles of research before my journey, evaluating lots of information. What I liked most about Rex was that he tailored my instruction to ME! He quickly could determine my level of knowledge, helping me to expand on it, and dispelling things that weren't correct. Of course we covered the boiler plate requirements, but were able to expand quickly and deeply into the critical thinking that this new responsibility requires. Not many non-teaching people can teach effectively. Rex is the exception to that rule. Patient, clear, articulate, funny and moves through the required material and beyond! Needless to say, I recommend 805CCW for a plethora of reasons. If I had to do it over, I wouldn't change a step. In fact, I'm already plotting my next move on advanced training, beyond CA requirements, with Rex. read more

I have been around firearms pretty much my entire life but never had any formal training. I was nervous when I arrived but Rex's calm demeanor and positivity immediately put my mind at ease. Rex took me through the classroom portion of my training with an incredible attention to detail. I felt engaged throughout the entire training. When we arrived at the range, his skill set, professionalism and respect for a firearm was immediately apparent. He taught me so much more than just how to hit a target. Rex took me step by step from disassembling and reassembling my firearms, my stance and grip, my aim using a laser gun and finally live fire. He explained thoroughly what needed to be adjusted and why at each required distance. Rex put me through realistic scenarios that challenged and motivated me to be better than I ever was. I felt as if every target I hit and every victory I achieved was his victory too. I completed my training feeling confident and prepared and am looking forward to scheduling more trainings with Rex. What an wonderful experience! Our session consisted of two different parts, both great! The educational part with the required multiple choice exam and shooting. Rex was very knowledgeable and conveyed the important information and responsibility of having a CCW. However, he was able to make me feel extremely comfortable and made the learning experience enjoyable. When we went to the range Rex continued with the same grace and patience needed to learn how to shoot and pass the shooting exam. I was surprised how fun and thrilling the shooting part was. Before meeting with Rex I was a little apprehensive about the whole experience but after spending a short time with him I was no longer nervous and found myself enjoying the whole day. I chose to use 805CCW simply because Rex was the only person that responded to my inquiry email. His response time was less than 3 hours. Rex usually only does 1/1 instruction but in our case allowed my husband and I to take the class together. I was very nervous when we arrived only because I wasn't certain what to expect, but Rex was quick to reassure me that the class would not be overwhelming. He was correct, it moved at an easy to keep up pace and when we were done with the classroom portion the range time was next. The only downer of the day was the weather. Since it had been raining for several days, the outdoor range was out of the question. Unfortunately Rex can not control mother nature. When all was said and done we both passed had fun, and were comfortable with the details we learned in the class. I will be going back to 805CCW when it is time to renew. read more

CCW 805 isn't a friend , he's a lifesaver. I spent numerous hours training how to use a firearm and with what's been going on lately with shootings I think it is a vitally important service. Everyone thinks they know about guns and gun safety until they get one in their hands. There is a lot more to it than one thinks . Take Rex's course and see if I am for real. We spent countless hours going over the law and the consequences of getting involved in a gun altercation. If you are thinking of Carrying a gun for whatever reason, consider Rex Jones , you will not go wrong . My experience with Rex and 805CCW was absolutely fantastic! Rex is great! Professional, knowledgeable, and informative. I would highly recommend Rex for your training needs. He makes you feel comfortable and is not intimidating. He knows the laws and all the in and outs about CCW's. You'll first meet to go over laws and all the relevant information you'll need to know. He will guide you through everything and explain anything you have questions on. Then you'll hit the range for a few hours. We went to a great private outdoor range. Rex not only qualifies you but goes a bit further and teaches a few different tactics and situations one could find themselves in. I had to Renew my CCW permit, after searching for qualified instructors I had the Great fortune to pick rex Jones, I was a little nervous as I dont feel really comfortable in classroom situations, but after I met Rex I felt like I was with an old Friend, No pressure. His CCW class was the perfect blend of thorough and serious teaching with a touch of Rex's humor and most importantly his personal insights and experiences. The classroom section was more productive than I was expecting and a very comfortable learning environment. Range time was the highlight of this class! Too bad there's no 6 or 7 stars for reviews. I've been handle firearms for years but never get through a sysmatic classes or training. One of my friends highly recommended Rex. Rex is way over my expectations, he has great knowledge and years of experiences of handling firearms and providing trainings to help his students to obtain CCW licenses. Most importantly, Rex is the instructor with "no attitudes", depending on where you're at, he can start from there to help you grow your knowledge and skills. I bought a new gun and attended a basic training class at a local indoor range. Rex also known as LT was my primary shooting instructor. I was very impressed with his ability to assist me every step of the way "I needed a lot of help". My class was a one on one class so I was able to have specialized instruction on exactly what I needed not what a group needed. A coworker and I contacted Rex for a private lesson based around basic defense techniques. I let him know that I had only shot my gun once and may need a touch on the basics. I spent half a day with Rex and went from being a bit timid around my firearms to feeling confident that I can safely handle and fire them. Rex touched on everything from proper firearm handling to more advanced firing techniques. I was able to surprise myself by the end of the day with my accuracy of my firearm and more importantly confidence in safely handling it. When I got to this stage of the CCW process, I was a little apprehensive. I wondered if I would qualify with all my weapons. How hard will the test be? And, I hate being stuck somewhere all day in what could be a boring situation. All these fears quickly evaporated the minute that I met Rex. The way that he imparts his knowledge and expertise to you is amazing. Before I knew it, I had passed the test and qualified with all my guns. When I called Rex to schedule my appointment he took the time to explain to me what to expect. I was impressed with his approach, Rex was personable and extremely knowledgeable. I found that his one on one technique provided a relaxed atmosphere. After our time in the classroom we went to the range for some live fire. Even though I am familiar with firearms Rex was able provided me with information that helped improve my shooting techniques. Rex at 805CCW is the REAL DEAL. Ex LEO, great attitude, fun and extremely knowledgeable. I looked around for months and called many instructors before applying for my CA CCW. Rex was the ONE! He's so great I also got my AZ and UT CCWs with him in a second class. I passed all 3 applications the first time. Rex prepared me, educated me and corrected my shooting technique (even though I had been shooting for over 35 years). Do yourself a favor and go to the best. I can't recommend him enough. I plan on taking some additional training courses with him in 2020. read more

I had a two hour lesson with Coach Don and…read moreI'm really pleased with the amount of education and hands-on instruction I received in such a short amount of time. We spent the first hour of the lesson on classroom instruction. I learned the history of the most common hand guns used, why someone would prefer one type over another, the differences between single and double action, and how different handguns suit different individuals. Don made sure I felt confident handling the different types. By the time we entered the firing range, I had learned proper stance, range etiquette, how to load a magazine, and the importance of proper technique when racking the slide. But the most unexpected thing I learned was that my nervous system (as a first time shooter) would be taxed. He explained that my first shot would likely be my best shot because once I knew what to expect I would begin to anticipate and I would have a bit of a "fight or flight" response. I never would've expected that and so when it happened, I was well prepared. Even though most people know to expect the sound and the kickback of a weapon, you're not really prepared for it if you've never done it before. Sure enough, my hands got shaky, my breathing got shallow my heart rate raised, but he coached me on how to relax and breathe through it. I was pretty proud of how well I did and I really look forward to my next lesson!

I'm glad I listened to their suggestion as it's quickly become my favorite indoor range to practice at. They have a wide selection of firearms in the main shop and a decent selection of accessories for firearms, they're the only shop I've been to in the area with PDP mags on the shelves. They also have a good selection of firearms for rent on the firing lanes. Their staff are also very helpful and friendly. I've been there a few times and a younger guy named Sebastian has helped my newer friends improve their shooting with various tips about their grip and whatnot. I look forward to coming back regularly.

We practiced the OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) in dynamic simulations that mimicked being followed, home invasions, or street encounters, which built confidence.
