I have thin, fine hair and have had trouble with other stylists not knowing how to cut my hair to make it look fuller and voluminous, but she knew exactly how to cut and style. My stylist Ken has performed magic on my hair, he has transitioned me from dark brunette to a more amazing silver which is much much closer to my natural color. I am new to Charlotte, I asked a co-worker for a recommendation.. I called and made a appointment, I had to wait 3 weeks before I could be seen.. I brought the formula that my previous hairstylist did.. My stylist stated that will help her.. After 8-10 mins. she was back and started applying the color ( single process) it hurt so bad, first the fastness of the color brush then the color itself...The burn last almost 6 hours.. I have never had this happen in all my 40 years of color... So then I sat for a HOUR -- no refreshment offered , no direction to bathrooms Nothing -- she (stylist) was MIA for 1 hour.... So I sat and listen to blaring music ( I thought I entered adult entertainment venue).. So with my headache from the blaring music and my sore scalp -- I will not return .. read more

The salon has a great atmosphere and is beautiful inside. I had an appointment with Amber and she was fantastic! I went in having no idea what I wanted other than "a haircut". She looked at my hair, made some recommendations, and went to work. It turned out so much better than I could have imagined!! Don't waste your money. I asked for basically the same cut I had just slightly shorter, I have thick hair, usually cut in layers to my jaw line. After an hour and 20 minutes, I came away looking like a Pixy. It will take me a year to grow my hair back to the length it was. I spent about 4 times the amount I would have had I'd gone to one of the quick haircutters around town and would have come away happier. The decor and the "style" of the workers seem to take precedence over training and good workmanship. I won't be back. read more

Attention curly haired ladies! If someone has ever cut your curly hair wet they wronged you. I came to the salon with my hair curly and dry and Tara knew just what to do. Tara first inquired about my day to day to determine the best cut for me. Tara talked me through her ideas and described/modeled how the hair would look once complete. Tara kept great conversation while cutting my hair while maintaining all necessary sanitation guidelines. Tara finished with my cut then washed and styled my hair using a diffuser. Probably the best curly hair cut I've ever gotten. She's been formally trained in curly hair technique and it shows. Thanks Tara! read more

Lauren Davis Is a master color artist. My hair is quite the chore. It's a blonde masterpiece that is a multi step system that isn't for beginners. She made it look so good! My stylist who I had been going to for a year moved here and I hated every second of it. It's loud and pretentious. Not to mention the horrible parking. I considered finding a new stylist just because I hated coming to this salon. I stuck out 2 appointments here and I'm thankful to say my stylist is going back to her old salon. The icing on the cake is the phone call I received from the salon offering me free services to go to another stylist. How shady do you have to be to try and poach clients from your stylists?! Salon is gorgeous, however the people are pretentious. I walked in wearing athletic wear from running errands. Several people walked in behind me and were greeted. Not until I was the last one standing in the lobby, was I greeted. My go to stylist who I would follow everywhere came to this salon seeking new opportunities. She quickly decided not to stay. The salon called me and offered THREE free services to stay with them. They tried very hard to get me to continue being a client there, but I kindly asked them to remove all of my future appointments from their books. Sounds like shady business practices. I was her client before her move and will follow her to the ends of the earth. The salon always has a DJ, which can be nice, but it's always too loud to really hear your stylist. Extremely impersonal. My 8 year old would like to note that they do not offer hot tea. Only water and coffee. She says "I am NOT about that life." Will not be returning and will be continuing my services with my stylist wherever she may go. read more

I recently moved to Charlotte, and totally lucked out by randomly being hooked up with Ken to color and cut my hair! Ken is professional, fun, and laid back. At first I was just having basic trims/layering, but on my third visit I went in with a picture of Sandra Bullock from the Golden Globes (every stylist loves when someone wants to look like a movie star, right?! ) and he totally nailed it with the cut and the styling! I can't recommend this place enough. I have been coming for years every 2 months to get my hair dyed or cut and it feels like a sanctuary. I don't think I would trust any other place in town with my hair. They have their own hair care line so you know they're legit. The interior is beautiful with amazing plants and huge mirrors. There is almost always a DJ playing that you can enjoy while you sip on complimentary water, coffee or tea. Last but not least is the people. If I were grading on technique alone, this would be a five-star review. But getting a haircut is about so much more than technique. The shtick behind 8-the salon is that you get the best haircut for your facial structure. I knew this going in, but I didn't realize the full extent. As we all do when we want a new hair style, I brought pictures with me of styles I liked. When I got them out, the stylist just said, "We don't do pictures here" and went on to give me my haircut. And I'll give her credit. The cut IS flattering. But a getting a haircut is about more than just flattering a face. It's about finding the style that works with a woman's face AND her life and personal style. THAT is where 8 falls short. I got a haircut that looks good, but it doesn't look like me. The BEST stylists should be able to give a client a haircut that looks good AND reflects what they want. If you refuse to do that, I won't return. If you're 100% completely open to a stylist's vision for your hair, give 8 a try. But if you want any input at all, I can't recommend it. PS Yes, the salon name is the number 8. I have been almost all over the US and one of the hardest things to get settled into has to be the findings of a hair salon/stylist. It's never something that you need on a consistent basis & it always seems to be the thing that "pops" up because you finally took a long enough look in the mirror while rushing thru your day. At least that's what I think. :P I went to "8" to get a reshaping haircut after receiving a complementary cut card (first timers only). I have to admit I am probably the most laid back customer any salon will ever get. I am never fussy, I love to do the outlandish styles, and I always know hair will grow back. So when I walked in and met Dwayne it was love at first glance for him. He said it was like Christmas all over for him because I wanted a Mohawk. He was amazing! He actually talked out the ideas he had about the shape of it. We then walked over to get me into a robe and hang up my coat. He did it all with shears, no clippers, then I had a shampoo/conditioner AFTER the cut to get all of the hair off. While styling it up I realized I wanted a bit ore taken off the sides and WALLAH done! It is glorious! I have found a stylist that can cut my curly hair (even though there is very little of it)! My only qualm is the price. He's a Senior Stylist so he's $75. Which really isn't too much of a bother if I didn't have to get a touch up every 3-4wks. and I was there for quite a bit and was never offered any water read more

Update: I received a call that the owners wanted to refund my redo service and consult with me on how they could make it right. I was pleased that they did want to make sure I was happy and apologized for the miscommunication of my previous visit. In anticipation of my visit, they even ordered a new rose gold product for me. We tried the pale pink again with good results and although still a little sore by the way the manager treated me, the owner did a great job turning around the experience. read more

I was looking for a new hair stylist and I found it here! Recommended by a co-worker and went to see Faith. Faith spent time listening to me and understanding my desired outcome. My hair turned out beautifully and the price point was reasonable. The salon is super cool and they play music that is actually enjoyable. The stylists at this salon were great; however, I was sorely disappointed in the level of customer service I experienced with the salon staff. I called to schedule an appointment and was told they would be able to get me in with my stylist same day, which was great, but that I would also have to pay a $150 fee for being a no-show at my last appointment scheduled in July. I explained that their records were not correct and I had responded to the confirmation text that are sent the day before appointments, which asks you to confirm the appointment for the following day. Their confirmation texts give the option to either respond YES to confirm or NO to cancel. I responded with NO to cancel the appointment since I wouldn't be able to make it the following day. I explained this to both the receptionist and manager and even sent them a screen shot of the text message I received and my response showing the dates and times and that I was under the impression I cancelled the appointment through the appropriate channel communication from the salon, but unfortunately I was told that was insufficient. They said they never received the text response and I was still considered a "no show". They also told me they had it listed I was also a "no show" back in January too, where again I explained that back in January I did cancel an appointment via text that apparently the salon never received, but I had also rescheduled for a few weeks later and when I came for my re-scheduled appointment, I showed the staff the texts on my phone where I attempted to cancel, to which they apologized and told me it was no problem. I also explained that I had been a long time client of my stylist, and have been coming to her regularly every ~6 weeks for nearly 2 years and referred a number of new clients to her while she's been at Salon 8. Again, none of this seemed to matter and insisted the $150 fee must be paid before I can schedule another appointment. I've never just not shown up for an appointment before and not only have too much respect for my stylist's time to ever do something like that, but I honestly would probably not trust her to do my hair again if I did ever do that to her. It is both insulting and frustrating to be labeled as "no-show" even after showing proof their records were not correct, but also very upsetting that I will now have to find a new salon and stylist I trust, which is difficult to do. I will not be back to Salon 8 after this and nor can I, in good conscience, refer anyone new there going forward. I hope they understand that by trying to enforce what was proved to be an illegitimate $150 fee, not only will they not collect that, but they will be missing out on the revenue they could have today, had I been able to schedule the appointment with my stylist who had an opening due to a cancellation, but they've lost my future business as well, along with referral business I've helped drive there in the past. Further, they should not send texts to their clients giving them the option to cancel via text if those texts do not work. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to and labeling your customers as "no shows" is again, insulting especially after proof has been shown that it was due to the salon's faulty communication system. This is not only poor customer service, but bad business practice as well. I would follow my stylist should she ever leave Salon 8, but I will not be back to that salon after this. read more

I used to go to a certain stylist because I felt obligated to and was afraid to change, which for me and my industry is a death sentence. Working with Duane changed my life... He understands my industry and my need to stay trendy yet have an easy look and something that I can manage on the go. He took the time to teach me how to style my hair and keep it looking good and also, taught me the softer side of my face and what to accentuate. He is also pleasant to speak to, does a thorough and complete job, and takes a traditional cut and tweaks it to make it stand out and make a statement. I would suggest 8 - The Salon to anyone that is looking for a change and for anyone that is in need a look that is what someone needs.... not wants. From sassy to traditional, their staff is professional and qualified to make your cut and color to be something that is fitting and that you can be proud of. Another example... For years, I died my hair dark brown well, because, it was in my head that it looked good . My prior colorist went with it and her suggestion was to just to add in highlights light blond highlights. Ewww. The staff at 8 - The Salon suggested I go lighter which would warm up my skin tone and make my hair cut pop and that it did! I couldn't be anymore please with 8 - The Salon and they have a long-time client in the works with me! read more

My experience of this salon is that they are spending more money on having a DJ than training their stylists to cut hair. Stylists in my experience were rushed, late to start and the hair cuts were not worth the money. Color was decent but find a better place for cut. read more

I travel once a month 750 miles to Salon 8 in Charlotte, NC to get my hair done! And trust me, Its worth every mile!!! I get compliments on my hair from people in the industry who work with "the best of the best" in the business. Salon 8 provides not only high quality professionals but also a friendly, relaxing atmosphere where you can lay back and let the masters do what they do best! I highly recommend Salon 8!
