Shopping in Hong Kong…read more.. We didn't know what kind of store 360° was, so we went in. I wouldn't say that it's just a convenience store because it had a bit more merchandise than just grab and go snacks. There were cookies, Candies, and 3 in 1 coffee packets. I was surprised to see marshmallows with Brown from Line Friends. I had to get it for Kathy H.! LOL! We looked in another 360° and found Brown marshmallows, but no Cony... Sad... Haha! This store was a bit crowded with narrow aisles, customers, and staff restocking the shelves. It was an educational experience!

Snacks galore…read more.. There's something about it that satisfy any type of issues that you're hungry, anxious or just a craving. Here they have just about any type of fun items and though it's not massive it's a lovely place to find something that even the local convenience store won't have. Staff here is always busy restocking items as there is a lot to see and what a fun place to explore what Hong Kong along with various other countries together share the same love of snacking. Shopping in Hong Kong…read more.. If you need ingredients for your Japanese-style meal, go to Guu San! Located on the ground level of the H Zentre building, Guu San was featured in an Instagram reel. Thanks to Cece in Northern California for letting us know!. We walked about two blocks and found this convenience store which was packed with ready-to-eat fresh fruits, bottled beverages, snacks, and more! We got two musubi and a free can of juice for our lunch! It was fun to wrap the nori (seaweed) around our musubi! This method of separating the nori from the rice helps to keep the seaweed fresh and crisp! We didn't have time to browse for the cute items... like keychains and plushies... so, we'll be back!

Always ready to explore we received information from our knowledgeable friend CeCe about this Japanese Market called Guu San and looking at the location it seems doable as it's in the H Zentre near Nathan Lane on Middle Road. The outside signage isn't as prominent but perhaps noticing the various goods through the window would definitely capture your attention. Walking in to what seems to be a modest size shop right across from the checkout is Kome Korner serving various fresh made musubi this was one item that would be perfect for us as we're constantly on the go. Besides that there a variety of snacks, travel items, drinks and kitchenware. Guy San is an adorable place for you to find that comfort food you may crave and with every two musubi you get a free can of juice. どうもありがとうございます！

SOGO Supermarket is the food hall in the basement of SOGO Department Store. Basement food halls are…read moreubiquitous in Japanese department stores and pretty much the only section of the store that I care about. You can find a variety of Japanese food products here, along with some other imported items as well. The dessert/cake section is quite extensive and there are multiple bakeries/desserteries. They have Japanese brands/companies but also a couple local ones as well. I tried their Japanese cheesecake tart place and it was quite good. The tart was fresh and warm. Their cakes are detail-oriented and glamorous like the ones you'd see at a department store in Tokyo. There's produce and meats sold here, but they're pretty pricey, as you can imagine. That week was their Taiwanese fair, so the market had an assortment of Taiwanese street food to eat. It can be super crowded here, so keep that in mind if you're not into crowds. But then, if you can't handle crowds, why are you in Hong Kong?

Case in point, it took me 6 months to discover SOGO's basement even though I lived, quite literally, next door. SOGO is a gigantic department store that attracts hordes of shoppers, many with luggage, every hour of every day. I knew all this, I saw the insane mass of limbs and luggage wheels every time I crossed the street. That's why i was deterred from going in until the last month of my stay. What I didn't know was that there was a food paradise tucked underneath all the people and the floors. The SOGO grocery store is similar to other high end grocery stores, but with a Japanese focus. Very clean, very large, and with many exotic varieties at a premium price point. There is an area in the middle that sells an assortment of Japanese snacks: dango, matcha tea, sun-dried squid, etc. To be honest, I never actually bought anything from the grocery store but I did go for SOGO's assortment of ready-to-eat food kiosks, all imported from Japan, all amazing. There's a quiche place with an array of the most beautiful quiches on display (fake, but still pretty), there's a cheese tart place (BAKE) that puts a dent in my heart and wallet because the tarts are so delicious and overpriced. There are Japanese sweets, Japanese cakes, and foreign snacks that a certain Japanese shop has repackaged for the Asian population. Beard Papa (cream puffs), Juchhheim (German layered cake), iCremeria (ice cream), Kobe Beef Meat Pie, all evil temptations for someone with an empty stomach. My favourite is Croissant Taiyaki (especially with apple filling): crispy, sugary, flaky pouches that marry French croissants and Japanese Taiyaki at HKD $18 a pop. Sinfully delicious. If you've never been here, drop by. If you're from North America, DEFINITELY MAKE A TRIP HERE. It's unlike anything I've ever seen (though I hear supermarkets like this are everywhere in Japan, lucky...) It may have been a blessing that I discovered it late in my time here in HK. The supermarket stocks a good variety of both local and international products, and at cheaper prices than supermarkets like Great and Citysuper as well. One of my favorite things about the Yata supermarket is that they stock a lot of Japanese imported products, ranging from instant noodles to fruit jellies. The other day, I was walking around in the supermarket when I realized that I had a random craving for anchovies - you know, those tiny Japanese silver fish that usually come with almonds? Strange, I know, but I've always loved those. I walked over to the snack aisle, thinking that I would just grab it and go, but lo and behold - there was literally a section devoted to anchovies! There were so many to choose from but unfortunately I don't read Japanese so I couldn't make an informed choice. Anyway, I just went by instinct and compared the prices and grams in each to see which was more value for money. Fruit shopping at Yata is always an adventure. Last week, my mother and I managed to pick up the most gorgeous Japanese peaches for $32 each. Now, we all know peaches aren't the cheapest of all fruits, but $32 for a nice, big and juicy peach was a steal compared to other supermarkets! Unfortunately, the Yata supermarket is always quite crowded, making it hard to move through the aisles while pushing your trolley. Too many a times that my sandals-wearing feet have been rolled over by relentless trolley-pushers... My advice is to come at night when there's significantly less people, and that way, you can also take advantage of some items that have been marked down because the supermarket wants to get rid of them before the day ends!

Q Club is not as big as A&M, but what makes them stand out is that they offer stuff from Trader Joe's! WOOOOO!!! You can also find a lot of other typical American brands like Newman's Own, Kraft, Gatorade, Cheer, and other American craft beers. If you feel they're missing something, bring it up to the staff and they'll take note- they are willing to listen to customers and see what they can get in the inventory next time.

As an American living in Hong Kong, both of these outlets have proven to be a comfort when looking for US branded labels of food, toiletries, sundries, etc. And make no mistake, it is not a fully stocked grocery like you might expect, but just big enough with enough US brands to make you feel like you have some connection to the US products you might miss and/or need. "A&M" is more like a Costco in many ways (they literally stock items you would find at Costco...bulk for the most part but not all, large bags and even Kirkland labels...and it is expensive). Q Club is more like a a small version of an American grocery store (nothing in bulk, but lots of US based grocery products, no Kirkland labels....and less expensive than A&M). For example, at Q Club, I was able to find an expansive shelf of McCormick Seasonings & Sauces, Muscle Milk Lite, Degree anti-perspirant and Kraft parmessan cheese. Even a huge shelf of Mezzetta jarred peperoncini, jalepeno peppers, coctail onions, etc. They are individual items, but definately American tastes. The prices are a bit high compared to what you would pay for in America, but I would say cheaper than A&M US Groceries simply because they are normal sized and not sold in larger bulk bags like A&M. They do have an expansive beer selection you will see right when you walk into the door. The store is small, clean, organized and staff was friendly.

my first experience with Don Don Donki was this very location! i also remember when it had just…read moreopened and it felt like a whole new world as a kid. i was so happy to hear they opened a second location in HK but this is the only one that is open 24/7. i will say that coming back to HK, the location isn't as big as the ones in Japan. there are a lot of foreigners as well and so there's often times crowds of people in aisles. i do like that there is self checkout and that you can use your octopus card or credit card. the prices are relatively reasonable and you can find practically anything that you need here.

They even have ready to eat hot and cold foods. Having only been to the Hawaiian locations in thr US, this was the first Donki I have visited in Asia. While the items inside are aplenty, the space absolutely not. This location is kind of hidden and there are stairs to go down into the store or else you'll need do wait for an elevator that only reaches a hotel lobby (a bit odd). The snacks are my favorite items to grab here and I definitely like that the goods are extreme expensive. It is hard to explore the store because of the huge variety but think of it as an adventure when you go. Also, be prepared to brave the line because it is always crowded. Get ready to squeeze in and out of almost every aisle when it's thr evening or weekend.
