Although still absolutely the best grocery store in proximity to me, this fusion is now more of a strong 4 than a 5 to me in my eyes. The shiny patina of a clean, organized grocery store with international labels to a new hungry expat has worn just a touch in light of time, options and exposure. The booze moved to the back and they got rid of the flax seed bread I like so much over the year, but the consistency of everything else that I said before remains the same. The produce section is still pretty good (lots of veggie options coming from food sources that are clearly identifiable versus the unknown food chain coming from some stores). The dairy section is still pretty big. The creme de la creme and what would change it all for me is if that sushi counter went away. It is still there and I happily am eating sashimi from them a few days a week. The check-out lines can still wrap around the corner and be long and you might encounter a unfriendly/non-English speaking checkout person on occasion, but that would be the exception and not the rule. Also, either I am getting wider or those tiny aisles are getting smaller, because there remains the delicate dance when shifting around people at any given time while shopping because there is limited space in the shopping aisles. I am still a fan and will remain shopping a Fusion. Again, I personally find it to be the best option in the area.

With another Wellcome just up the street and not my most favorite grocery brand in Hong Kong, I was happy to see some additional "more upscale" grocery brand come to my hood. Although Fusion up the way is closer to my actual home and probably more preferred by me, I actually like this Marketplace and will be a patron from time to time. It is very open at the front and very inviting to step into the long tunnel of a store that is carved out in this space. I feel like they might be lacking more extensive options on their shelves, they have fresh produce that is well displayed and a good variety of the basics that I am tending to grab more regularly in a week (milk, yogurt, etc.). The store always seems clean and organized since my few times of popping in since they opened.

Australian and New Zealand dairy and juices...some US brands as well. Limited but nicely presented veg and fruit. All kinds of smoked items - salmon, ham, etc. This is a comfort food kind of place for westerners who are intimidated by the amazing offerings found in the many local markets...so baby steps into the culture.

It always has an weird airy funky smell (a cross between raw veggies and something spoiled...and it is always there right in your face when you walk in the door). Also, the check out line is small, cramped and not conducive to a cue when people start lining up. With a Fusion grocery a stones throw away, a new Jason's Market opening up further up on Queen's Road (actually replacing another Wellcome that was equally crappy) and even a Park-n-Shop around the bend that is a notch above this place, I will make it a rule to shop someplace else.

This is a decent sized grocery located on Caine Road at Aberdeen Street. The best part about this…read moreshop is that is has decent hours (~8am-midnight) compared to many other groceries that close quite early (by my standards!). My biggest complaint about this shop is that they like to stock the shelves during business hours, so often you will have diffiulty navigating the aisles and have pallets of goods blocking access to the items you are looking to buy.

But I want to hit special notice here for the SUSHI. I have been everywhere around the world for Sushi -- from the Jiro-style douchebags who charge you for breathing their air to the fake Korean and Chinese run spots in Toronto and LA, to the old school Sushi-Ya in Japan where it's about the personality and experience, in addition to the rice / fish / booze...Been to them all. And this place...with a young Chinese chef is still the best, freshest fish and best prepared rice that I have had anywhere, equalling and surpassing Tsukiji. Now it's true, the selection is limited but how amazing is it that this young chef can - for 7 DOLLARS - equal the best Omakase in LA, NYC and Tokyo. Well, simple--what most of you are paying for is BRANDING. Not food. Not skill. Not quality. Brand. And I don't give a crap about the "brand" of Nozawa or Nobu or other asses that purport to represent Japan but pander to the lowest common denominator. Our Sushi man at City Super is adhering to 1000 of years of Chinese and Japanese culinary tradition, know how and exceeding where others have failed. The fact that I could spend 45 dollars for 2 orders of the same food in the west and receive cat food is the great shame of Western Civilization and it's decline. It's why China specifically and Asia in general is the future. It's why the US is owned by China and will continue to be. Try this place. Enjoy the amazing food ALL over City Super and have some incredible Sushi. in 9 years, they have not changed. Still incredible. Still polite and still setting the standard for the world to match.

This store is originally a Japanese brand of home goods called Daiso. For some reason in Hong Kong…read morethey are known as Jusco Living with more of a focus on home/living goods. I am unsure if this was due to more focused branding. There is a good variety of home goods. My first Daiso experience was in Little Tokyo in LA and I would definitely return. Everything is the same price unless there is a sticker/sign indicating otherwise. I enjoy buying bowls and cooking utensils/ items to change your lifestyle.They have molds for heart shaped sushi rolls, onigiri, and cute bowls and jars. There is a section on grooming/accessories/cleaning/cooking/stationary.... need I go on? It is fun to just peruse the aisles. This particular location is in the basement; we walked around in circles before we were able to locate it. Once you walk inside it is like a wonder of products waiting to be discovered. This chain is basically a 100 YEN store, similar concept to a 99 cents store. However, unlike most 99 cents stores, the product quality is better (with the exception of Dollar tree which does sell some brand name products). I highly recommend going to a location and checking it out.

This is true as of now, a few weeks back I found myself looking glass jars for preservatives; that's when I truly realize that I have completed my role from being a twenty-something free man to an early middle aged family man. This is the beginning of my downfall, the end of my wild days- days of suburbia. What has it got to do with the shop? Well, this place very much sells stuff that a family needs- not likes- needs. You will find kitchen items, study essentials, pre packed snacks for kids; all the stuff that you really need if you were to start a family from scratch. Why has it got 5 stars? That's because every time I was instructed by the almighty to find items that I had no interest and no knowledge of finding, I would find it here. Lids for jars of different size? Checked. Cover for the ironing board? Checked. Plastic boxes for organizing stuff at home? Please choose your colour. Its a really convenient place to find stuff like that and its just so good that I don't need to make 10 trips to find them in different places.
