You can find a variety of Japanese food products here, along with some other imported items as well. The dessert/cake section is quite extensive and there are multiple bakeries/desserteries. They have Japanese brands/companies but also a couple local ones as well. I tried their Japanese cheesecake tart place and it was quite good. The tart was fresh and warm. Their cakes are detail-oriented and glamorous like the ones you'd see at a department store in Tokyo. There's produce and meats sold here, but they're pretty pricey, as you can imagine. That week was their Taiwanese fair, so the market had an assortment of Taiwanese street food to eat. It can be super crowded here, so keep that in mind if you're not into crowds. But then, if you can't handle crowds, why are you in Hong Kong?

Case in point, it took me 6 months to discover SOGO's basement even though I lived, quite literally, next door. SOGO is a gigantic department store that attracts hordes of shoppers, many with luggage, every hour of every day. I knew all this, I saw the insane mass of limbs and luggage wheels every time I crossed the street. That's why i was deterred from going in until the last month of my stay. What I didn't know was that there was a food paradise tucked underneath all the people and the floors. The SOGO grocery store is similar to other high end grocery stores, but with a Japanese focus. Very clean, very large, and with many exotic varieties at a premium price point. There is an area in the middle that sells an assortment of Japanese snacks: dango, matcha tea, sun-dried squid, etc. To be honest, I never actually bought anything from the grocery store but I did go for SOGO's assortment of ready-to-eat food kiosks, all imported from Japan, all amazing. There's a quiche place with an array of the most beautiful quiches on display (fake, but still pretty), there's a cheese tart place (BAKE) that puts a dent in my heart and wallet because the tarts are so delicious and overpriced. There are Japanese sweets, Japanese cakes, and foreign snacks that a certain Japanese shop has repackaged for the Asian population. Beard Papa (cream puffs), Juchhheim (German layered cake), iCremeria (ice cream), Kobe Beef Meat Pie, all evil temptations for someone with an empty stomach. My favourite is Croissant Taiyaki (especially with apple filling): crispy, sugary, flaky pouches that marry French croissants and Japanese Taiyaki at HKD $18 a pop. Sinfully delicious. If you've never been here, drop by. If you're from North America, DEFINITELY MAKE A TRIP HERE. It's unlike anything I've ever seen (though I hear supermarkets like this are everywhere in Japan, lucky...) It may have been a blessing that I discovered it late in my time here in HK. It just looks more clean and neat and products are about the same price as those from Parknshop. I was looking for baby products in particular because I traveled with my child but wanted to pack light at the same time. And they had everything I wanted! I also love that they have lots of cut up fruits to choose from, which is convenient for tourists. The website said they open at 9am but they were already opened when I walked past at 8am. And they have applepay, which is not too common in HK. They are located in the basement level of Isquare and is only 1 level above the mtr station.

Lol they also have apple yogurt that Europe no longer made dunno why not it's the best tasting ever. We bought fruits all so fresh, they have VN dragon fruit $3.50 each! I have them bigger so plentiful at home I gave them to neighbors. I have lived in Sham Shui Po until I was about 10 years old. Kung Wo is about 5 minute walk from our old apartment and I have no recollection of ever having the tofu here. It's my older sister's favorite tofu place so we had to stop by to grab a bowl of good old hot tofu, which is like a dessert. Be aware the dining area is small and cramped. You will likely have to sit next to a stranger in close proximity. It is street food style and casual dining. Folks order, eat and go! The tofu without a doubt was smooth, silky and fresh. I'm not a huge fan but my sister really enjoyed it. I was feeling something savory and got a mix plate of Cheung Fun (rice noodle rolls), fish balls, and fish shui mai. It was alright. They also have soy milk and some other food, but we mostly just came for the tofu since we had a few other stops on our food tour. There's 2 storefronts right next to eat other, although only one has a limited amount of seating. We thought the other one was for takeout, not sure if that was actually the case or not but they still let us order with them and take it over to the other storefront to sit and eat. We ordered a cold tofu pudding, mixed deep fried tofu, and soy milk. The pudding was soft and silky, and there's some sauce/seasoning at the tables for you to add. I don't think it was really my thing but it was interesting to try! I enjoyed the deep fried tofu a lot more since I prefer savory things. I didn't try the tofu ice cream since I didn't notice that was an option, but it sounds unique and I'd probably want to try it if I'm ever back here. Overall it was cool to try and worth a visit if you're a tofu fanatic. I'd probably come back again if I were in the area but wouldn't make a trip out just for this.

The layout of the shop is very nice, as you can easily browse items without bumping into other shoppers. There's a fresh product section, along with frozen items, beauty products, dry goods, drinks and your usual suspects of Hong Kong/Asian snacks. It's not City Super, but when you're hungry or in need of some groceries it's more than sufficient.

The supermarket stocks a good variety of both local and international products, and at cheaper prices than supermarkets like Great and Citysuper as well. One of my favorite things about the Yata supermarket is that they stock a lot of Japanese imported products, ranging from instant noodles to fruit jellies. The other day, I was walking around in the supermarket when I realized that I had a random craving for anchovies - you know, those tiny Japanese silver fish that usually come with almonds? Strange, I know, but I've always loved those. I walked over to the snack aisle, thinking that I would just grab it and go, but lo and behold - there was literally a section devoted to anchovies! There were so many to choose from but unfortunately I don't read Japanese so I couldn't make an informed choice. Anyway, I just went by instinct and compared the prices and grams in each to see which was more value for money. Fruit shopping at Yata is always an adventure. Last week, my mother and I managed to pick up the most gorgeous Japanese peaches for $32 each. Now, we all know peaches aren't the cheapest of all fruits, but $32 for a nice, big and juicy peach was a steal compared to other supermarkets! Unfortunately, the Yata supermarket is always quite crowded, making it hard to move through the aisles while pushing your trolley. Too many a times that my sandals-wearing feet have been rolled over by relentless trolley-pushers... My advice is to come at night when there's significantly less people, and that way, you can also take advantage of some items that have been marked down because the supermarket wants to get rid of them before the day ends!

Shopping in Hong Kong…read more.. We didn't know what kind of store 360° was, so we went in. I wouldn't say that it's just a convenience store because it had a bit more merchandise than just grab and go snacks. There were cookies, Candies, and 3 in 1 coffee packets. I was surprised to see marshmallows with Brown from Line Friends. I had to get it for Kathy H.! LOL! We looked in another 360° and found Brown marshmallows, but no Cony... Sad... Haha! This store was a bit crowded with narrow aisles, customers, and staff restocking the shelves. It was an educational experience!

Snacks galore…read more.. There's something about it that satisfy any type of issues that you're hungry, anxious or just a craving. Here they have just about any type of fun items and though it's not massive it's a lovely place to find something that even the local convenience store won't have. Staff here is always busy restocking items as there is a lot to see and what a fun place to explore what Hong Kong along with various other countries together share the same love of snacking. Wellcome is a Hong Kong chain of supermarkets that can be found all over the country. I saw their…read moresignage multiple times but didn't really know what it was until I stepped foot one afternoon to purchase some soft drinks. I asked one of my travel mates where to go as our hotel didn't have a convenience store and she advised me to come here. Staying at the City Garden Hotel, this Wellcome location came in very handy as it's just across the street. It's a little tricky as the store is inside from the outside entrance - - they share the entrance with another business. When glancing through this relatively small supermarket, they carry many food items, including raw ingredients. I was surprised they do carry some imported products from other countries on their shelves. It was fun checking out what the locals consume as I did notice some products that I grew up with, such as Cadbury, Horlicks and Ovaltine. Personally, I did find Wellcome to be cramped with many items on display with narrow aisles. I primarily came here for drinks and snacks so it met my needs. Octopus cards (prepaid smart cards) can be used during check out so it was very convenient. Traveling from country to country it was difficult at times with their currency system. When I obtained my Octopus card at 7-11,, I used it there. In addition to 7-11 stores, I could ride the MRT, bus and also use my Octopus card at Wellcome. If I were a resident of Hong Kong, Wellcome can be too small of a supermarket with limited selections. But if I lived in one of the many apartment buildings nearby, Wellcome is sufficient with grocery shopping without traveling far. Being such a small store, the number of staff is minimal with just 2 or 3 employees. My cashier wasn't number savvy as I was trying to use up all balance on my Octopus card. I informed her in Cantonese I was about to leave the country and would be paying the difference with HK dollars. She told me I didn't have enough on the card and therefore couldn't do my sale. Clearly I had purchased more with snacks to take home and consume on the plane. I had to repeat myself and this time the lightbulb went on and informed me the balance due after scanning my Octopus card. Overall, a great find near my hotel, as this store has a larger selection than what you find at a 7-11 or average convenience store.
