Each time I walk into any Westernized market in HK, I head toward the bakery section seeking my favorite buns for breakfast. With so many options and those claiming to be better than the next, it's a constant work in progress. My motto is simple: If the breads are good, I'll be back. Well, they were. One of my favorite things about the Yata supermarket is that they stock a lot of Japanese imported products, ranging from instant noodles to fruit jellies. The other day, I was walking around in the supermarket when I realized that I had a random craving for anchovies - you know, those tiny Japanese silver fish that usually come with almonds? Strange, I know, but I've always loved those. I walked over to the snack aisle, thinking that I would just grab it and go, but lo and behold - there was literally a section devoted to anchovies! There were so many to choose from but unfortunately I don't read Japanese so I couldn't make an informed choice. Anyway, I just went by instinct and compared the prices and grams in each to see which was more value for money. Fruit shopping at Yata is always an adventure. Last week, my mother and I managed to pick up the most gorgeous Japanese peaches for $32 each. Now, we all know peaches aren't the cheapest of all fruits, but $32 for a nice, big and juicy peach was a steal compared to other supermarkets! Unfortunately, the Yata supermarket is always quite crowded, making it hard to move through the aisles while pushing your trolley. Too many a times that my sandals-wearing feet have been rolled over by relentless trolley-pushers... My advice is to come at night when there's significantly less people, and that way, you can also take advantage of some items that have been marked down because the supermarket wants to get rid of them before the day ends!

my first experience with Don Don Donki was this very location! i also remember when it had just…read moreopened and it felt like a whole new world as a kid. i was so happy to hear they opened a second location in HK but this is the only one that is open 24/7. i will say that coming back to HK, the location isn't as big as the ones in Japan. there are a lot of foreigners as well and so there's often times crowds of people in aisles. i do like that there is self checkout and that you can use your octopus card or credit card. the prices are relatively reasonable and you can find practically anything that you need here.

They even have ready to eat hot and cold foods. Having only been to the Hawaiian locations in thr US, this was the first Donki I have visited in Asia. While the items inside are aplenty, the space absolutely not. This location is kind of hidden and there are stairs to go down into the store or else you'll need do wait for an elevator that only reaches a hotel lobby (a bit odd). The snacks are my favorite items to grab here and I definitely like that the goods are extreme expensive. It is hard to explore the store because of the huge variety but think of it as an adventure when you go. Also, be prepared to brave the line because it is always crowded. Get ready to squeeze in and out of almost every aisle when it's thr evening or weekend.

I wouldn't say that it's just a convenience store because it had a bit more merchandise than just grab and go snacks. There were cookies, Candies, and 3 in 1 coffee packets. I was surprised to see marshmallows with Brown from Line Friends. I had to get it for Kathy H.! LOL! We looked in another 360° and found Brown marshmallows, but no Cony... Sad... Haha! This store was a bit crowded with narrow aisles, customers, and staff restocking the shelves. It was an educational experience!

Snacks galore…read more.. There's something about it that satisfy any type of issues that you're hungry, anxious or just a craving. Here they have just about any type of fun items and though it's not massive it's a lovely place to find something that even the local convenience store won't have. Staff here is always busy restocking items as there is a lot to see and what a fun place to explore what Hong Kong along with various other countries together share the same love of snacking. It is opened 24 hours so it was convenient for us who were visiting HK, staying at the hotel next door who needed some food and medicine at the middle of the night. They have a good selections of products at a very affordable price. Service was ok. The lady patiently answered our questions about some products while she was busy stacking the shelves. The only thing is it's always crowded because of its central location so sometimes there could be lines. But it's Hong Kong it's crowded everywhere you go anyway.

This particular Wellcome is conveniently placed down the street from the Causeway Bay MTR, a little further down the street from a ton of buses, and a taxi queue is right outside. Easy to find and open 24 hours a day! 2) Supermarkets have a lot of stuff - Check. This is a very big Wellcome and it indeed, has a lot of stuff. Great one stop shop for all your reasonably priced grocery and prepped food needs, like sushi that goes on discount after 6ish. They've also got a household items section near the back in case the sole falls off your cheap ass shoe at 2AM and you need super glue stat. 3) Supermarkets are efficient - NO. NOT CHECK. How is it that at 6pm on a weekday, when the amount of shoppers is at an all time high, half the counters are closed? And how is it that the cashiers can see lines stretching almost all the way to the back, and they're still scanning items at the most leisurely pace possible? HOW IS IT THAT I CAN SPEND 2 MINS PICKING OUT MY DISCOUNT SUSHI AND 40 MINS IN LINE TO PAY FOR IT. I have never NOT had to wait at least 20 mins in line at this location. So I returned them a call first thing the following Monday. Well was told my spot was given to another person. This is the way CitySuper does it's business, treating customers like consumerables. Absolutely rubbish! Poorly Managed. Never ever happened when we were living in another country where Customer Service was a priority...Here, forget it..it's all about TIME AND $$$$.
