I love chips. My husband says he has to compete with my affair with potato chips. Yeah, it's that bad. So, maybe I'm exaggerating just slightly, but not much! Some kids get excited over candy, but me, I get excited about CHIPS! And if you have been to any Asian grocery store, you can attest to the weird, funky, and delightfully yummy snacks they offer.
I had no idea my "candy" store even existed until a friend brought "snacks" over to an impromptu gathering at our friends' flat...and I believe it began with..."Ohh great, there's a 759 store right next door...I love their weird snacks!" And that IS ALL I needed to know before it became my "new bestie" store! I don't know when or where this love affair with chips started...but probably got much worse around the time I started dating my now husband. He has a devilishly bad sweet tooth...a.k.a. Donuts are his buddies and well, you guessed it, chips are my frien-emeies!
A few examples of stuff you can find there are..."cheese candy" or how about a can of creamed corn to-go? The oddities in this place are normal to most normal Asians. But if you know me, you could probably bet I had some interesting facial expressions while digging thru this gem.
Location: Ok, so the store has since relocated to the ground floor of the Coastal Skyline/Play Area. Just a few months ago, it was located directly above on 1/F by all the real estate offices but now since it's below by all the other two restaurants. The good news...I won't stop there to fill up my buggy because it's not as tempting...Bad news...I have to really make an effort to go there because I'll forget about it if I don't see it. Right now, I'd rate it more like a 3.5 but I'll round up to give it the benefit of the doubt. I haven't met a 759 that I didn't like.
About the store: They definitely have downsized because there aren't as many munchie options but it now offers more "food" instead of snacks. There are cold freezers offering frozen mandu or a chilled section of different food items like kimchi for example. There are several types beverages (wine, soju, soda, water, tea) to choose from as well. It still looked like they were in transition mode getting everything sorted out and arranged. I will be back probably weekly to see what is new. I hope they continue to get more interesting snacks...or at least chips!! The store mainly focuses on Japanese and Korean food. It's the fun stuff that keeps this place interesting! Stop in and remember to bring your own bag otherwise you will be charged! I wish they would accept my used chip bags in exchange for real shopping bag. I'd trade plastic for plastic any day! read more
