This place gets very busy during lunch and I I called to reserve a table with the noon to 1pm slot. Next appointment slot is 1-2pm. Love the decor here! Very unique with lots of vintage American items. My friend who came with me is a regular here, and she recommended the salad and veggie burger. We also ordered the tofu nuggets. This was my very first veggie burger and was not disappointed! There were 3 burger options and I went with the beetroot pate one. The beetroot pate was very delicious! Burger buns were very fresh as well. The big portion was very filling. It was satisfying even for a big eater like me. Gotta give props to the potato wedges with just the right amount of seasoning! My favorite was the tofu nuggets!! It's definitely better than McD's!! I would highly recommend the tofu nuggets. Overall I gave it four stars and would definitely come back!

As soon as I got off the elevator and took my first step into this restaurant you are bombarded with cheesy café décor. This cheesy is good and made me feel like I was back home in the U.S. The smell of incense filled the air and there was familiar music playing in the background. I had just entered a new world in Hong Kong. Several of us started out with the tomato and lemongrass soup. It definitely tasted fresh, but tasted like someone squeezed a bit of lemon in the soup instead of actually using lemongrass. We were a bit unsure whether lemongrass had been used until a stringy remnant showed up on my spoon. I ordered the grilled portabella and sweet pineapple burger. I was a bit disappointed that I had to go bunless because of my gluten intolerance. Also, the pineapple was not ripe on my burger, which is a major fail because sweet pineapple is in the name of the burger. The service at this place was impeccable. I dropped a spoon, and it was replaced so fast, that the five second rule wouldn't have applied. Our waiter, Tommy was happy, understanding, and patient with accommodating changes we made in our order for the afternoon. The concept of this place is great and they have an extensive selection of vegetarian items. I think they need to kick up their flavors a bit. My friends and I left feeling like we had a good meal, but nothing about the food really stood out. If you have SF in your name, you need to truly represent San Francisco, and have some alternative menu options to accommodate gluten free and other various diets. Despite this, the service and ambiance of this restaurant is unique and will keep this place going. I would normally give this place 3 stars, but fantastic service kicks it up to a 4.
If the girl down on D'Aguilar and Stanley had not been standing there with her giant sign advertising the place, we would not have known VeggieSF was here (so it goes for so many Hong Kong restaurants). It is located about a block away from the street corners mentioned above and my husband and I thought it was a worthy place to stop in for a late lunch. We walked in around 2pm on a Friday and had missed the lunch crowds. We specifically had wanted to go to this spot for it being a vegetarian establishment and everyone on this earth (including us) could hazard to get more greens into their daily diet. Veggie SF spin on this is that with so many outbreaks in the world of listeria and other animal based diseases that have made it into the human food chain, eating vegan is the right choice to avoid all this. Early reviews mentioned a busy lunch hour and a surely staff, but this was quite the opposite of our experience when we went at 2pm (In Hong Kong, if you are with the 3 million people in about a two square mile radius that is trying to eat lunch, this is just a consequence of your environment...it is what it is and nobody should be shocked when an eatery is busy at lunchtime). We had a delicious meal and were impressed with the creativity the menu choices (spinach oyster puried soup was scrumptous!), weekly rotation of some new items on the menu (the mock chicken skewer was so good, you could not have known the difference from the real thing), the visual feast of "circa 1960 decor meets San Francisco neighborhood cool" to keep your eyes busy while you are sitting there (we especially loved the SF 49er display!) and loved seeing the owner there on sight. Everyone should eat more greens. Make it easy and fun for yourself and your family by disguising those greens binto the creative meals at VeggieSF. We will be back. read more

It's a super cute place. When I first stepped foot out the elevator, I thought, wait - is this a toy store? They just have so many vintage trinkets so feel like you're at a store than restaurant as you enter. It has dim lighting, and it's a small-ish space, so you feel quite cosy. DEFINITELY a great date spot! They were also playing swing jazz, which really was the cherry on top regarding ambience. I'm in love. The food menu was quite extensive. It was quite hard for me to pick as there didn't seem to be any way the menu is categorised. There's some asian-inspired dishes, some veggie burgers, pastas, salads... I went with a burger in the end. It was beetroot based center and came with small side of salad and pumpkin and potato wedges. Salad was good, with a light yummy dressing. The burger I was surprisingly impressed with, usually veggie burgers are more of a miss for me. I thought the beetroot was made to a texture really similar to mince beef - very yummy. The wedges though was more of a miss. It still looked grilled from the outside, but when you bite into it, it tastes like it was boiled. I think the kitchen might've done a shortcut in grilling their veg! Overall great experience, service was very friendly too. Not the best value veggieplace, but I think you pay for the ambience and for service. Will go again, and most probably with a man this time :) read more

When your restaurant name involves a abbreviation of a west coast city, you can't blame me for having expectations right ? Quirky place with nostalgic Americana decor, fun looking menu, the variety of veggie burgers. But, there's always a but. The service needs some serious polishing up. In 10 minutes, I was reminded 3 times that we only have 45 minutes dining time during lunch and we were being pressed to order like crazy, this is about as Non-SF as it gets you know. #relaxhkpeople!!!!!! read more

I felt that the food provided at veggie SF was very overhyped, overpriced and not at all worth it. Firstly, the price was very high. They advertise stuff on the menu which is misleading. There was $150 minimum per person which is no longer applicable. The food is very overrated. We ordered the Peking wrap which was served as separate roll paper, six pieces of cooked tofu, some other veggies, soya syrup which is stupid. Why would we pay $100 to sit and roll shreds of veggie into roll paper. The Singapore laksa chachacha was okay but I got a lot of dirty burps post dinner and I had to drink lot of water to reduce the effect of the food. Overall, a bad experience. read more

Veggie SF is a funny little place that serves veggie food (believe it or not!), in a kitschy faux Americana diner environment. And, whilst the menu is not very substantial, it's actually one of the better places to get vegetarian food. The offering is mainly veggie burgers, the choices being portobello mushroom, beetroot patty, or soy patty (like a Quorn burger), as well as a couple of Asian dishes, and a couple of pastas. The menu is a bit confusing, so bring your PHD with you; some dishes are only available on week nights or holidays, if you come at lunchtime, but not Saturdays, it includes salad or soup, and beverage, there are minimum spends before service both at lunch and dinner (ugh, I really hate that, it's just so uncivilised). As a price guide, you're looking at HKD138 for a burger and fries (well, pumpkin wedges), and HKD148 for a pasta. The food is a but hit and miss. I have had occasions when the burger was quite possibly the nicest thing I have ever eaten, followed by times where I wouldn't give it to my cat. I tend to find the food worse at lunchtime, probably as they are trying to turn tables and chucking everything out fast. I think the fastest lunch I had was being given my food less than five minutes after ordering. Pre-made anyone? This relentless pace, makes it vital that you book (it is a small venue that gets busy), and probably is the cause of the slightly surly staff. They just seem so grumpy and inefficient most of the time. Maybe if the staff actually had a beef burger occasionally, they would cheer up? The style of this restaurant is casual, slow going, drop in for good food, but it is exactly the opposite for me. It's book, get rushed, get attitude, get "blah" food, get out! read more
Been here 3 times. As with most western vegan place in HK . Menu is pricey (~150 lunch). Over the few occasions that I've been here, I've tried their burger lunch, soup and salad. My first impression of the place is that is it very cosy and nicely decorated. However seats are not comfortable as they try to fit many chairs Into a tiny space. Presentation of the food is excellent and taste is not bad. Portions are big enough to fill tummies, however service only deserves a two star ! On my last dining experience here I actually saw a piece of foam stuck in my cranberry (!!!) thank god that I like to look and pick my food before I stuff it my mouth. Upon informing the waiter lady there, she actually did not apologies and just took the dish away from me ( my dish was not even half eaten). As with 99% of people on earth, I was expecting that a manager would come and speak with me but I waited half an hour before I asked the manager about the incident . He of cause didn't not really respond and when I told him my salad was only half eaten , he only said he will give me a 10% off from my bill read more

Excellent service, cozy environment, fresh ingredients. Portion sizes are perfect. I had the Kobe burger, the patty had a nice flavor, toppings were stacked high, and the side of potato wedges complimented the dish perfectly. I also tried the juice of the day, perfect blend of fruit and had the right amount of lemon. Restaurant was decorated with a ton of stuff from San Francisco. read more

Honestly if I could leave zero stars for this place I would. It was truly that bad. I was so excited to try this place after hearing about it on the veggie grapevine. I walked in at about 12:25pm for lunch and asked for a table for two. I was told that I would need to get the table back to them by 1:10, which I was a little disappointed about, but figured it shouldn't be a problem. As soon as I was seated I was given menus and took a look at what was up for offer. The menu isn't huge, but the selection seemed yummy and interesting (although rather pricey a burger will set you back 138 HKD), about three minutes passed and my friend who I was meeting there had not yet showed up, I was then asked by a member of staff if I would like to order as I needed to give them back the table soon. I told her I had a friend coming still so would wait for him to arrive first. She was visibly annoyed and then walked off. When my friend arrived another waiter came over and announced "Okay, it's time for the amazing race, because you guys need to eat really fast and get out of here by 1:10." Maybe he thought that was funny, but it wasn't said in a playful tone with his deadpan expression, and I just found it to be rude. I ordered the rice noodle dish and a hot tea, and my friend ordered one of their veggie burgers with an ice lemon tea. First came a bowl of carrot and ginger soup, which was pretty bland, and very watery. It was also lukewarm. Before I had even taken a second sip of the soup our waitress reappeared with my main dish and placed it on the table. The rice noodle dish I ordered came with one piece of tofu cut in half, and two veggie satay skewers, the noodle portion was certainly not generous, but there was a nice healthy sprinkling of peanuts and herbs. Next both our drinks arrived, and at least I can attest that my tea was hot. I tried to ask the waitress a question about the satay skewers, but she literally threw the plate on the table and rushed off before I had a chance to get a word in. She soon returned with my friend's burger, and I managed to ask her my question about the satay. (I have coeliac disease and so I must always be sure there is no gluten in my food, or I can end up in the hospital) I began to ask her if the satay had any batter or gluten in it, but before I could finish my question she responded with "The protein is made of soy" I told her this wasn't what I wanted to ask her, and then proceeded to ask my actual question. She paused for a moment before responding with "I don't know what is in the satay, so just give it to your friend to eat." I was not impressed with that, and was starting to get pretty disgruntled at this point. I ate my noodle dish as fast as I could with the waiters hovering over us, and making sure every two minutes to tell us to hurry up. Although the food was not bad, it was nothing special, and certainly wasn't worth the 118 dollars I paid for it. Once it was 1:05pm the 'amazing race' waiter showed up with our bill and told us we needed to pay now and leave. At this point my friend and I were so put off by the rude staff and underwhelming food that we slapped down the exact change (definitely wasn't leaving a tip for that service) and I downed the my tea, which had only then begun to cool down enough to drink. On our way out I noticed a 'jokey' sign hung up amongst the rest of the kitschy knick knacks that adorn the restaurant and it read 'Don't worry! We are used to our customers asking us stupid questions.' I'm sure it was supposed to be light-hearted and fun, but after the dining experience I had it seemed to really sum up the general vibe of the waiting staff. Clearly the staff don't value their customers, they see us as stupid and not worth showing any decency towards, we're just dollar signs to them. All they seemed to care about was flipping as many tables as they could to make the most money possible off their clients (whom are so full of stupid questions). I mean, when I arrived there were tons of empty tables, and still were when my friend and I left, so what was the big rush?! Veggie SF is an appalling representation of San Francisco and indeed vegetarian food too. I will never go again, and will be sure to tell my horror story to all my fellow veggies out there. Worst. Vegetarian. EVER. Avoid at all costs. read more

Can't complain. Great atmosphere and food presentation. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Free wifi and nice menu options. I originally came here to order food to go. I ordered two things on the menu one burger and the sushi 101. I think it's either the manager or owner comes to our table and suggest us not to order those two items to go because they will taste is good and to eat it here. I thought that was very sweet and attentive of him. If you're in Hong Kong and are vegan and I highly recommend this place. I'll definitely come back next time I am visiting and Hong Kong. The giant burger was really good. I can't yet rate the sushi 101 because I haven't tried it yet. My girlfriend ordered a coffee with organic soy milk and I had a Thai tea. Both are great recommendations for drinks. Also it's very convenient is they took American dollar and exchange in Hong Kong dollar because we didn't have enough money to cover the bill. The exchange rate is fair. Pretty much airport exchange rates but a little bit better. read more
