As a child, I hated the taste because my mother never let me put in any salt as seasoning. But last time when I was back in town, I could not resist getting a bowl for myself just for childhood memories! I guess 野葛菜水 must be good stuff since I grow up to be healthy and fully of yelppy energy!

I am more than happy to visit this hop every now and them for it serves some of the best herbal tea you can find around. Rather than tea, I would say it is more like a soup brewed with several hebal ingredients. It is said that this drink will cool you down and reduce the heat within you; it suits the people who often stay up late (i.e. me) and is suffering from cold sores and pimples (i.e. also me). Now you know why i like this joint so much. To make it more effective a cure, salt is added into the drink, so to me it is very much like a taste bowl soup; it is so good that I can have two bowls in one go! This store has been serving the life enhancing elixirs since the 70's; not only that, this shop serves one thing and one thing only. A lot of attitude and style I have to say, but actually, why would they have to sell other things, they specialize in one thing, perfecting it, people love it, and have been supporting them for over 40 years; the perfect example of less is more. Life enhancing, health benefiting bowl of drink which tastes wonderful as well; what in life could be as perfect as this?

They have a huge menu of options that will appeal to all types of eaters as well as a large grocery store where you can pick up tons of goodies to go home and cook them up yourself. I cam here specifically on a mission to try the Just Scramble, a product that we can't get in North America yet. It's a plant based "egg" and it did not disappoint. I've tried VeganEgg and other vegan egg products but they've all been terrible, but this was definitely passable. The egg was delicious and I liked how it was incorporated with some Beyond Meat crumble which made it that much better. It was hard to taste the egg alone since it was very seasoned but it was delicious nevertheless. I also tried the bao buns which were good, but not as good as the scramble. I thought the bun was a bit dry but the filling was meaty and definitely fulfilled my craving for meat. On the way out I picked up some vegan gummies and treats (from Europe I believe) and they were amazing. Slightly sad that a lot of the items in the store come from so far away but I think if the trend catches on this issue should be fixed. I enjoyed my experience dining and shopping at Green Common and left feeling satisfied mentally and tummy-wise.

I am vegetarian so was tempted to buy up all the cool vegetarian snacks, food, and meals. The only reason for not 5 star was when I was trying to order my food at the counter there was a worker who was finishing her shift and was buying some products. The two other people behind the counter kind of ignored me and was not very warmly to take my order. I feel like a bowl of noodles (with an upgrade) and added drink for 103 was not too bad.

To be honest this place doesn't break any new boundaries nor presents anything that is ground breaking; its still the good old M&S store with their food items. You could find that with any other M&S store. The only difference is that this place does only that- it sells food and nothing else, which to be me is great because it does without the boring parts (I haven't bought a suit from M&S at least). Someone must have told the M&S people about this particular vacant site because they could not have chosen a better location to set up a food shop. With the bridge from the North Wanchai office towers going towards Queens Road East, this is the perfect place to stop by and grab something whether you are walking back home or taking the MTR. Moreover, there's a gym upstairs (was) which also caters for some people who go to the gym after work. The food is the standard fare and exactly as I want it- Shepherds Pie, Yorkshire Pudding and bourbon chocolate biscuits. yes its 30 degrees out there but I don't care, I miss the rain and the greyness so the closest I can get is with some proper grub. There is also a huge selection of frozen food items ranging from pies to pizzas so there's something for everyone. A small wine selection is also there and I am happy to report that its not as poor as I thought it would be. Never thought i'd say this but good on ya, M&S!

I used to live in the UK and, honestly, even though I liked it, I barely bought anything there unless it was really especial, like some cheeses that I couldn't find in Sainsbury's. But I must admit that I was happy to see M&S here in Hong Kong. And this branch is right downstairs from my gym so I walk past every other day. I can't recall the number of times I've been inside checking something out and haven't bought anything. It's just not worth it, it's SO EXPENSIVE! Just as an example, a little 150 gr. bag of nuts is around 45HKD...come on! And that applies to pretty much anything. If you like ready made 'English' food (sounds appealing huh?) you may like it as that's what they are really good at. You pay a higher price for the convenience but it's good. Two good things about his place: cheese and wine. The cheese selection is not greater than any other supermarket and around the same price, but you can find a couple of odd cheeses there, different from the range at other stores. And I'm a fan of their wines. I found a great one there, that a friend recommended to me, it's a Spanish garnacha grape wine called La Sabrosita. It's a thick red wine priced at less than 100HKD and I love it. For such a small store, the space taken by wines and the selection they have is really impressive. Okay, their chocolates are okay too (I only care for dark ones though). They only have a couple but it's great to find different brands from the main supermarket chains. And this applies to every other item in their store.

Even if it has gotten more expensive these last couple of years, the prices are still quite fair. The store itself is on the first floor and is really small! But if you can squeeze in the there are plenty of supplements one can buy. They have a rather wide range of Optimum Nutrion protein. One can also buy gloves, belts, straps and so on. The staff is usually not very friendly in this store though. Or maybe I was just unlucky the 8 times I was there. They are usually way friendlier in their store in Central. Still though, pretty ok store.

I've studied sport science in university so I know the science behind improvement - or at least I think I know. The intake of the right nutrients plays a huge role in building muscle/losing fat/maintaining energy, which brings me onto Nature's Village. Nature's Village is a small store in Causeway Bay (I later found out they have a few more lurking around Hong Kong - check their website for details). It's filled from floor to ceiling with big protein tubs, energy bars, gels, and that sort of thing. As I've come to expect from all the other nutrient shops around the city the prices are somewhat higher than they should be. But because every other shop has those prices I suppose there's not much to complain about, after all I'm not going to ship something in from Australia - I'm not that into it! Anyway, they have a good selection of low fat, low carb, high protein shakes which I'm after (Promote muscle growth that I'm sorely lacking at this moment). They even have a brand that I do not see so often, Carnivore. The name alone lets you know it's probably dangerous... which makes it even better. I browse through the shop and I'm pleasantly surprised to see a mixture of other items, natural ones that often are forgotten about - apple cider vinegar and coconut oil, two very healthy ingredients. They also have a small selection of gym gloves but at $260 a pair I left them where they lay. By the time I left the place I had a tub of Carnivor under one arm and some apple cider vinegar in the other. Time to gain muscle and maintain a good internal pH level, next time we meet you will not recognize me! (Which may have less to do with me looking different than anything else.)

Conveniently located in Wan Chai, this restaurant serves up a large menu of vegetarian delights, which will have even the most carnivorous of us satisfied. I personally am a fan of the vegetable shish kebab, a "kofta" made with minced vegetables and baked in the tandoor, the tikka paneer, and the dum aloo. All these dishes hover around the HKD60 mark, and are quite reasonable in size, so you will probably find your bill quite low. What is particularly good about this venue is that it is completely vegetarian, so you don't have to do the song and dance of, "can I have this, but without the bacon" or "is the stock made with chicken". And despite it being vegetarian, the food, being Indian, is very tasty and in some cases quite spicy! My only issue with the food, is that it can be a bit greasy. Everything seems to be liberally coated in vegetable oil, so just be wary. The venue itself is a bit like a canteen, with its bright fluorescent strip lighting, plastic tables (at least with table clothes I suppose), and school chairs. It could also do with having a good scrub and a lick of paint. However, I suppose we come for the food after all. The service is great, the staff are attentive and friendly, but there only seems to ever be one wait staff on. I do tend to come during the day when it is quieter and there aren't so many folks about, so I hope they add more wait staff in the evening when it gets busier. Having said that, the few evening times I have come, it never gets that busy, so you could probably turn up without a booking.
