This place makes me so happy for so many reasons. Everything is vegan or vegetarian, but doesn't…read morefeel like you're eating "rabbit food", plus there are chill vibes and service is awesome! There are many faux-meat options as well as more veggie based options and I think everything was well seasoned and delicious. I tried the beyond burger (teriyaki), fish ball curry, as well as the Hainanese chicken. I think the most impressive dish was the chicken because it looked the part and tasted good. The texture was on all the items was decent but you can definitely tell it's not meat - but I think it was definitely good enough if you consider the effort that went into creating the full dishes. You can grab food or snacks to-go in the little market place they have, or you can dine in with their very large menu of vegan and vegetarian options. The service is super friendly and the menu is easy to read and order from. There's also a huge diversity of items from Asian to more Western items you can most likely get your fix here. I loved the quotes on the wall and how they try to educate people about the food they serve as well as the impact that it makes. If you're in HK I'd highly recommend checking out one of their many locations around the city.

Most people may know Green Common as a plant-based grocery shop in Hong Kong. But they've opened up…read morea few resturants now to cater to Buddhist friendly and vegans. Given the limited choices for my vegan friends, this is a pretty decent restaurant. This super casual restaurant is canteen styled. You know like your average Ikea restaurant. It's nestled in the corner of Mong Kok's new shopping arcade, The Forest so it's not too busy. Which means you can sit for awhile and catch up on friend time. The seats aren't the comfiest, and the tables are small. But it'll do. It's Mong Kok after-all. There's chargers by the benches for you to charge up that mobile... or... laptop! Looking for a vegetarian bao to settle that "bao crave"? Why yes they have it!

We had high expectations for this highly rated restaurant in HKG and were looking forward. It was…read morebusy but we seated in a few minutes. Many service staff and all busy but it took us at least 10 minutes for someone to give us a menu. Requested water and it took a good five minutes. Normally in an Indian restaurant the first thing without asking water is served (part of culture). The food took a good 10 minutes as well. The Vegan Thaali which should have been the most simplest meal to serve and come out of kitchen. The food itself was a bit bland for our taste in seasonings. The spice level was low which is OK, but salt was too low. Surprisingly no pickle was served which could have solved both shortcomings. The Chappatis were OK and were not super fresh. The Vegan Masala Dosa took even longer to come out which was more surprising for us well. A South Indian restaurant normally the dosas are one of the quickest to come out. The dosa was also unevenly cooked - one side was well done, middle was perfect and the other side a little under done. Chutneys and sambhar were good. Their definition of vegetarian states that there is no dairy which is incorrect and vegan talks about eggs or meat but does not include any mentions of dairy.

The idli wasn't as good as I'd expect. It's safe to say I'm an idli snob, more because I prepare…read morekick-ass idlis at home, so you've to really impress me on that department. Same goes for the masala of the masala dosa. The sambhar, I do a decent job as well. But hey, it's not about me :p Woodlands had good sambhar, the kind I like, with a balance of sweet sour salt, and the lentils not as liquid-y as some places. I like it a bit thick, so this was good. The thali we ordered had nicely done vegetable curries and lentils, all of them, rassam, dal, a dry potato capsicum sabzi, a vegetable kurma curry and more. The puris were crisp and soft all at the same time, and not oily. The dosas were good. As a general rule of thumb, they're the most fool-proof things you can order at a South Indian restaurant. It has to be made fresh. The uttapam was OK. Nothing bad about it. Nothing great about it either. More photos and details on blog - nycbonvivant[dot]wordpress[dot]com. Link in profile.
