Oh gosh, I come here all the time for lunch!! You can pick three items and a drink/dessert with rice and soup and it comes out to 50 - 60 bucks all in all. I LOVE IT for those vegetarian days where you dont want to stuff too much meat and I think the value for money is great. Service is quick and the drink options are great too :) I would highly recommend it as it is no frills, quick service with good food.

Actually, this type of restaurants has been in existence in Hong Kong or China for hundreds of years if not more, it has a religious connection to most of these establishments as they usually are connected to a Temple or a Monastery that are either Buddhist or Taoist. Veggie Palace is categorized as a "private home kitchen" as it is officially not open to the public, all patrons has to reserve and will be contacted by them to go through menu selection. Prices are fixed, Lunch - HK$188.00 / Dinner - HK$268.00 per person Menu items are Omakase Style - as the Chef will decide what is best of the season and also according to personal taste. They will even keep a record of your past visits to make sure that the menu items you had perviously will not be repeated! Highlight items: Assorted Cold Appetizer as you can see from my photo, this has a variety of items, the centre is a mixed salad with julianne of cucumber, mushrooms, black fungus, and pomelo, it is then surrounded by veggie maki sushi roll, thousand year eggs, veggie ham etc. It is served with a light soy & vinegar based dressing, amazingly refreshing and tasty, I believe it is a signature starter that each table will get! And I am sure it will be requested even if they do not offer it in your next visit! The Mushroom & Vegetables Gyoza in Pumpkin Purée, savoury pumpkin surrounds this small package of amazing umami, the natural sweetness of the vegetables are brought to a new hight with the deep flavours of the mushrooms! Looks like a simple dish, but I am sure the Chef puts in a lot of thought and effort to make this a perfect dish!! As you can see, all the items are presented very well, and non of the dishes tasted the same! Contact them directly to make a reservation and discuss menu selection, and I am sure you will be a fan as well!!

We ordered 2 different Stone Bowl Rice set menu items. #2 with Eggplant and #4 with Lion's Head Mushroom (I believe called Lion's Mane Mushroom in the US) We liked both dishes including the accompanying Soup and appetizers. The Eggplant dish was savory without being greasy (Unlike most eggplant dishes cooked in a wok). The Lion's head Mushroom was very umami and had the texture and flavor of perfectly cooked beef cubes. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Alright, I realize how important it is for me to write a review of this place, considering that I…read morevisited back in Nov 2016 and there hasn't been an English language review of it on yelp. Nov 30th was my penultimate night in Hong Kong (I flew back in mid-November for a visit and stayed 13 days), and as such, it was also my lunar calendar birthday (which I don't pay attention to). My favorite aunt & uncle insisted on a celebration, and with them pushing 80, I would lean towards something healthier. It was either the infamous Tung Po (東寶小館) in the Java Street Wet Market, or something dialed back. "How about something...vegetarian?" "Sure, your uncle knows a place near Jaffe Road in Wanchai". Wanchai is a commercial area near the convention center, and it's 7 blocks from the foothills to the sea - Gloucester Rd is an expressway on the water's edge, Lockhart is known for Filipino girly bars, Hennessy is where the trams run, and Jaffe is a mid-class hotel street. It's not entirely tour guide friendly like Causeway Bay, Sheung Wan or TaiKoo. Still, I know the south side of Wanchai, and the MTR stop is nearby (we are heading West, Uncle and Aunt will head East after the meal) and it's convenient for us. We met up on Hennessey & Stewart near the Caltex gas station, and walked to a tiny 60 seat restaurant on the ground floor, overlooking a rather quiet side street. First impressions? Elegant but a bit ostentatious. Mentions in the local press are prominently displayed near the door, along with some local culinary hob-nobbery, not quite Buddhism in creed. We made prior reservations and were seated near the window. First, a pot of puer tea (serve the elders first), then we ordered a few items. See, I am always perplexed by restaurants offering substitutes of meat dishes, the so-called mock meat movement. I like the idea of tempeh and gluten bits, but I just don't think it helps anyone to make them look like it came from an animal part (I mean, if the argument is not to harm animals...why make a mock pig and butcher it? If that's the case, make it a tofu infant. If eating that is wrong I don't want to be right). So my aunt decided to order some chitterlings (very Cantonese), some spare ribs, some vegetarian peking duck, a portion of tonkatsu, some fried noodles, and truffles fried rice baked in a pumpkin. The ribs and chitterlings were made out of gluten and tofu sheets and had a convincing texture, while the tonkatsu had a tempeh interior. They are not made out of meat, but for some reason, they were flavored like they were, and for a moment you do not miss it. The Peking duck were treated with the usual camphor savoriness and that crisp skin made you forget that there should be chewy morsels of duck meat underneath which were replaced by gluten strands. If you wrap it around the usual lotus bun "pancake" with the scallion and hoisin sauce, you might not catch on at first. I mean, it's definitely a weird sensation eating something that were flavored like it's made out of meat, with the sensation similar to meat, but not quite it. The fried noodles came in, and it was your garden variety vegetable fried noodles with mushrooms - good, but not great. The Truffles fried rice served in the pumpkin was tasty in that the rice was topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, and you were supposed to break off bits of roasted pumpkin into your rice. It was quite good. Dessert was on-the-house as part of the meal and features your usual platter of fruit (pineapples and melons) and an azuki bean based sweet dessert soup (your typical Cantonese tongsui 糖水). Overall, a great experience. It was a healthy break from some possibly regrettable meal choices during the HK trip, and I think the elders enjoyed it as well. The next time I am in HK I'll totally stop in for a meal.

Predominantly vegan, the place can be described as ovo lacto vegetarian. Jasmine tea, preserved vegetable dumplings with broth, fried noodles with vegetables, fried rice with chinese mahogany and an eggplant claypot was on the table. With a side of pickled cucumbers and mushrooms. The claypot eggplant was the star, flavorful and very tender. Spicier would've made the dish star-rier. It didn't occur to me that the fried noodles would be actually fried and not stir fried. Abundant mushrooms in that one. The fried rice was nicely done, crisp vegetables and all. The white pepper brings out the flavors. The dumplings were good, thin wrappers and mostly mushrooms in there. The broth was simple but tasted good, and I think it was the white pepper that did it again. They have non-Taiwanese / international dishes on the menu as well, so that maybe for another time.

They're similar in the aspect that you get to choose 3 veggie dishes / sides out of 6 listed options. If you work in Wan Chai (or even just in the area) and want to grab a quick vegetarian meal, this is the place to go! I love eating here compared to the other two similar concept restaurants because the food is simply the tastiest of the three. Everything is just super flavorful and tasty. Also, unless Happy Veggies and Art Veggies, they give you a small bowl of rice in case you're the type of person that doesn't eat much rice, but then they give you the option to scoop more rice and soup. Unlimited rice and soup, at your service! The other locations only give you one bowl or rice and one bowl of soup. THUS, if you're the type to eat a lot, you will certainly get the bang for your buck here. I always leave this place pretty full and satisfied. Aside from the veggie sides being yummier than the other places, the portions are larger too for the same price. So... even though Happy Veggies is closer to my office, I still rather take a bit longer time to walk here and eat Liza Veggies' food. :) *FYI - they display their daily veggie options in Chinese... Thus if you can't read Chinese, I recommend coming here with a friend that can read Chinese OR just look around tables to see what others are eating to get a sense of what you would like to get. It is certainly not ideal for non-Chinese readers, but promise it is worth it! My Chinese reading skills aren't all that great too, but I still come back time after time. It's a testament to their food la. ;)

Do note that it serves ovo-lacto vegetarian food, which means eggs and dairy are still on the menu. It is a street away from Times Square on the 25th floor, although don't expect spectacular views as blinds cover the windows. The medium-sized interior has a turquoise color scheme (except for the walls) and from my guess can seat 30 diners at a time. Tables are already prepared and after sitting down, you'll be asked what type of tea you would like to drink. I usually drink jasmine green tea for its aroma and subtle flavor, plus I don't have to purchase unnecessary drinks that I could buy elsewhere. Menus will be initially offered in Chinese but you can also ask for an English menu, which contains pictures and is laminated compared to the paper Chinese menu. We ordered the assorted dim sum platter, which consisted of char siu baau, spring rolls, steamed meatballs, and other staples. Since the dim sum comes in a large platter, it's better to eat it immediately when it's hot. We also had a fried rice dish with mushrooms and mixed vegetables, which was devoured quickly as it was so good. Our next dish was fried noodles (again with mushrooms) with chopped carrots and choi sum. The rich and creamy sauce slathered over the noodles tasted so much better that the soy sauce-based noodles I've had in the past. I really didn't miss meat the whole time I was dining here. The vegetarian food was that good. It was savory and salt had a light hand on the majority on the dishes. I think I should take short course on vegetarian cooking to know how to prepare these types of dishes.
