This Wellcome must rank near the bottom of the barrel. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is…read moreonly for the reasons being well, it IS a grocery store and for us Expats...that's a glimmer of gold because they offer some imported products and secondly, I received $300 in paper vouchers from when we had set up our cable! This was the first grocery store we had stumbled upon while exploring CityGate and Fu Tung Plaza right when we first moved here. I guess my husband could tell by the look of horror and sadness on my face that I wasn't happy. He assured me there was another much "cleaner, larger and nicer" grocery store nearby so I shouldn't panic. Sure easy for him to say...I won't point fingers but he's not the one food shopping!! Wellcome in less than a few words is just "old, crowded and a little dirty" in my opinion. It feels like that Winn-Dixie store from back in the States that looks like it's barely staying alive. The only difference is it's about 1/4 the size and this place is so crowded and congested, you can barely get your tiny cart down the isles. (And I'm talking reduced cart size! Remember everything in HK is miniaturized from what is in the States. The cart is like a doll shopping cart. The isles are so cluttered with displays or racks of food being stocked it's a freaking maze to get around here. They have a little bit of everything just lacks selection. It's the basic-basic items for food and home. Most of the workers do not speak English so you will just end up wandering the isles like I did unless it was something like wine or rice...Wow, heck ya they do at least offer an entire (side) isle of that! Basically, you will find more of the non perishables or boxed/canned stuff (in this store) which is probably a good thing since I don't think I would buy any non perishable items judging by the look of them. Well, I did manage to spend my vouchers with 10 cents left over but used it up buying some household products and chips! This place will be my last resort if the other 2 places don't have what I need. I doubt they would have it, but it's always an option...just the last one!

Silly me! Here I'm thinking I can just add the location and later on go back and take pictures!…read more Well, doesn't quite work that way I guess! And I'm not going through the pain of finding all the info to have it be deleted just because I didn't review it NOW. Okay well, obviously I have been here several other times but never checked in because the location wasn't on the map! So therefore, I got so caught up in shopping which is probably why I never took pictures. No joke! Grocery shopping in Hong Kong is a whole "new sport" for this marathon shopper! If you ever come grocery shopping with me you will see why. Rant over get on with the review!! The store is located in the bottom of Tower 9 in the Caribbean Coast Phase 3, Carmel Cove building. I do wish I lived in these buildings because of the sheer convenience but I don't so I must schlep my stuff! The actual store is decent for its location. And while beggars can't be choosers, it's almost the best one around this hood! With 2 entrances, the store is definitely narrower than it is wide but very accessible. While it doesn't offer everything, it offers a lot more than a 7-11 or MarketPlace. I can at least get all my fruit /veggies, canned/boxed, dairy, frozen food plus household cleaning supplies and can't forget the wine and beer! It also has a small section of Health and Personal care items as well as basic items for babies. The bakery is small but it doesn't stop me from buying the Japanese cheesecake or individual mini bread-like buns/rolls! I'll never forget my first time going and when I started speaking English to the cashier...the look on her face was priceless! Just for clarification, most do speak English or can understand it...I just catch people off guard because they assume I speak Cantonese. Bless her heart...she helped me bag my groceries and stick them in my buggy!! Now, as soon as I walk up to the counter I make sure to greet them with a warm "Hello!" I still laugh because they still look a little puzzled. Just don't try to ask them too many questions about the food while shopping, most of the workers don't speak English. If you need a larger selection of products or specialty item look toward Taste in CityGate. Good luck and happy shopping! I never realized how spoiled I was when I lived in the U.S!!!
