Once this Bellaire mainstay ceases to exist, it will also mark the last location of 7 Leaves Cafe in all of Houston, leaving Dallas (#1) as the next closest option. This is a sad update. This is a chain from SoCal, which has close to 4 dozen locations all throughout the region. The fact that Houston already closed one (#2) within a year and is now on the verge of closing another, feels a bit like we're not allowed to have nice things. 7 Leaves has been a Chinatown staple for years, and it's one of those places that has always been consistent. After all these years of visiting, their drinks and boba have remained the same. They were also one of the first few boba shops serving real taro milk tea, which is something I've always loved. While trends and menus typically change, 7 Leaves has always had the same reliable flavors that keep us coming back. I'm very sad to hear that they'll be closing on July 26th. I've heard many good things about 7 leaves and I was looking forward to trying it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walking into the store, the ambiance was typical for a drink place in Bellaire and there were a lot of people on their laptops studying.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All of the drinks were the same price for the same amount. In my mind, drinks should be priced based off the ingredients they use. If they're all the same price, then some people are paying too much for their drinks or the more expensive drinks are being cut with cheaper ingredients to make it the same price. We ordered the two most reviewed drinks there - Assam & mung bean. The mung bean drink mostly tasted like pandan with an earthy flavor. The drink didn't seem properly mixed because there were fibers of mung bean floating around in the drink. Maybe some people like a non homogenous drink but it was very off-putting. We found the assam tea most palatable but that drink, like the mung bean, was so sweet that we couldn't even drink it. We asked for the lowest sweetness as possible but both drinks were so sickeningly sweet that we ended up throwing them away without finishing, which I almost never do. I dont know if they messed up the drinks or if they just got them from the same source without listening to our rewuesrs. All in all, we were looking forward to 7 leaves and it was the worst experience I've had getting drinks. (The service and setting were good.) read more

This was one of the worst milk teas I've had. We tried the mung bean which has pandan and the Assam with 50% sweetness and less ice and honey boba. The boba consistency was fine. I've gradually equated 7 Leaves with this drink since its unique flavor stands out among the saturated milk tea scene in Chinatown. It's fairly priced in my opinion; though the base price ($5.25) may look higher than some other establishments, it doesn't require the extra charge of boba to taste great. In fact, I personally think that adding boba would ruin its uniqueness. The assam and green thai tea have not let me down either if you insist on getting something more familiar sounding. This place just works. There's nothing overly fancy about it and their menu offers a limited number of drinks, but it would be grossly incorrect to assume that this location offers an average experience. This is one of my favorite places to go study or for a boba date. Many people study here as well so it is a great place to come to. I stay here for prolonged periods of time when studying and I would recommend a jacket though since it does get cold. I usually get the Green Thai Tea and it is probably the best drink on the menu. I always get this when I come here and it never disappoints. It does run on the sweeter side so I would recommend lessening the sugar if you don't like things too sweet. My friend got the Assam Milk Tea and it is a black milk tea base that was okay but it was not as delicious as the Green Thai Tea to me. The menu is fairly limited though, but hopefully there will be a drink that suits your taste. If you like the Vietnamese dessert che, I would recommend the Mung Bean Milk Tea, which was delicious when I got it in the past. The bobaristas are super sweet and get drinks out in a quick manner. The establishment is pretty spacious with various seating styles to suit your needs. The higher tables will not have outlets though, but outlets are accessible throughout the establishment. There is also a printer available if needed. The Wi-Fi is stable, but it can be hit or miss because I've had times where the Wi-Fi would not work and had to use my own data. The restrooms may have a wait too depending on the day as well. I also appreciated how the music is played at a reasonable volume and is not too loud to not distract you while studying or having a conversation with someone. Staff were polite and patient. The boba shop has sufficient seats for big groups. They have limited menu but sometimes less is more. Two thumbs up for the quality of their drinks. In my opinion, the best boba shop on Bellaire after being transplanted here from the bay area. 7 Leaves maintains an elegant, modern interior while serving delicious, flavorful tea. My go-to order is a large (+$0.75) oolong milk tea ($5.25) with honey boba ($+0.75) with less ice and light (50%) sugar. I wish they had a 25% sweetness option, but 50% is the only customization they have. Nevertheless, the result is a perfect milk tea with distinguishable oolong flavor. In the months I've gone here, the boba has always been consistent and with a perfect texture. The service is quick (with no line, drinks in less than 5 minutes).
