If you want to make absolutely sure you're starving before breakfast, this is the place for you…read more We ended up waiting a little over two hours for a table because the quoted wait time kept creeping up in increments, and at some point we were too invested in the process to turn back and try somewhere else. The good news? The setting is beautiful. Since we had so much time on our hands, we got to wander the farm multiple times and really take in the scenery. There's also a coffee shop where you can grab pastries and drinks while you wait, which definitely helped. We all got coffees and did our best to stay patient. By the time we were finally seated, we were beyond hungry. Three of us ordered the same Eggs Benedict, my husband got the two-egg sandwich, and we added a waffle for the table. Unfortunately, the food took its sweet time arriving too. Honestly, I don't think the food was worth a two-hour wait. The potatoes were under-seasoned, the eggs weren't cooked properly, and overall everything just felt a little off. At that point we were all too hungry and slightly too cranky to complain, so we quietly ate and focused on making our exit. The waffles were probably the highlight and seemed to be the one thing everyone enjoyed. As for the rest, the quality didn't match the price tag. It's going to be a very long time before I come back. I could see myself stopping by for a coffee and maybe a pastry, but breakfast? Probably not.

The suburbs are a rough, unforgiving landscape for coffee shops…read more At best, you'll have strip-mall stands, parking-lot carts or mini chains that pour a serviceable menu of second-wave offerings and, if you're lucky, won't try to rope you into Sunday services at the church they're fronting for. At worst, you have places dispensing sugar-laden trucker fuel to customers as quickly as possible and doing as little as they can to keep people hanging around or foster community. To look at The Coffee Shop from the spaghetti bowl of streets surrounding it in Raleigh Hills, you'd get the sense that it could be either of the above. It's at the end of a strip mall, it's along busy roads, and it's put enough thought into the branding that something has to be up, right? As it turns out, no. The Coffee Shop may be clinging to the westernmost point of Portland and may serve as its gateway to the suburbs, but understands its role within its community as well as shops in the denser neighborhoods over the bridges and beyond the tunnels. I only started going here roughly two years ago, but it's become a staple for meeting people in the neighborhood and conducting lengthier conversations. The Coffee Shop is an expansive space that has a modest dining area near its front counter, but effectively a community living room in the back and a sidewalk terrace out front that's workable for about four months out of the year. Each time I've walked in, the tables are consistently buzzing with people swapping ideas, exchanging stories, and occasionally getting some work done. As with the better shops in town, The Coffee Shop relies on counter service and asks you to order and pick up as needed. There are no wait staff checking in, no bussers clearing tables, and no interruptions to the rhythm of your day. It's a functional third space that just happens to have breakfast items (which I haven't tried yet), an array of baked goods (I never pass up an oatmeal cookie) and a full menu of casual espresso drinks (not great for pourovers or sampling a variety of sourced roasts, but an easy cortado, Americano, Red Eye or latte. And when coffee is the secondary item and you're hitting the first 60-degree days on the calendar, a cardamom-and-honey Cardi B or chocolate-and-cinnamon Mr. Olingo serves as a welcome treat. The Coffee Shop is on Portland's car-driven outskirts, but is in one of the last segments in which people are encouraged to stay a while. It's flanked by Jan's Bookstore, spas, nail salons, yoga studios, Sesame Donuts, and the area's one true diner. It occupies a much-needed space within its far corner of Portland and displays remarkable urban sensibility in an area where it could've simply gone with the flow of suburban traffic. The Coffee Shop isn't your last hope for a cup of coffee before reaching the 'burbs, but it's one of the few true coffee shops this far beyond the tunnels.

Yes, there was a line, and I was totally fine with that. What I wasn't fine with was waiting over 30 minutes for a single drink. There were 5 or 6 people behind the bar, so I expected reasonably paced service. Instead, the whole place seemed to be running in slow motion. Maybe they were still recovering from an early rush ( I was there around 10am), but it showed. Our order got messed up, we had to remind the baristas what we'd ordered, and the energy from the staff was pretty cold throughout. The final straw: our drink was presumably forgotten. Multiple people who ordered after us got their drinks first. I eventually had to walk up to the bar, point behind the counter, and explain that we'd been waiting and my mom was sitting in the car. For a lot of people, going out for coffee is a treat; It certainly is for me as a student. When you're spending that money, you'd hope for at least decent service. Unfortunately, this visit was the opposite of that expectation.

The baristas were friendly and effortlessly cool, and the whole place has a great vibe. It is a little on the pricey side, but I would happily visit again. Thank you!

The cold brew was also wonderful, rich, smooth flavors without being bitter. We loved it enough to buy beans to take back home. It's packed with savory flavor, and the egg has an incredibly light, cloud-like texture that pairs perfectly with the bacon, peppery arugula, and the rest of the ingredients. It's one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had. Their lattes are just as impressive. I've tried both the ube coconut latte and the black sesame latte, each made with plant-based milk instead of regular milk. The ube coconut latte was smooth, well-balanced, and not overly sweet. The black sesame latte, however, was the standout for me. It had a rich, nutty flavor and is hands-down my favorite of the two. I don't believe it's a regular menu item, so if you happen to see it, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Loro is on the pricier side, which is why I don't visit as often as I'd like, but I genuinely think it's worth it. The quality of the food and drinks makes it feel like a special treat. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is the parking. The café is tucked between apartments and other retail spaces, so street parking is your only option. I've had to circle the block several times before finding a spot, making it less convenient if you're driving. Parking aside, this is a charming neighborhood coffee shop that consistently serves flavorful food and thoughtfully crafted drinks. If you're looking to treat yourself to an exceptional breakfast sandwich and a beautifully made latte, Loro Coffee is well worth the visit.

The shop itself is decorated with basketball and sneaker culture, along with iconic sports moments that make the space feel unique without trying too hard. One thing that caught me off guard was that there wasn't a traditional menu posted. As a first-time visitor, I wasn't sure what coffee options, blends, or milk choices were available. Thankfully, it wasn't too busy, and the employee working was incredibly patient, friendly, and happy to walk me through everything. Customer service like that goes a long way. My drink was excellent, and the sneaker design printed on top of the coffee was such a cool touch. It's one of those little details that makes the experience memorable and fits perfectly with the brand. Whether you're a sneakerhead, a coffee lover, or both, Deadstock Coffee is worth checking out. The breakfast burrito was also delicious. I added sausage, Guac, and mushrooms. It would've been a 10/10 if left off the mushrooms. The burger tasted precooked, not a lot of flavor, just ok. But one bite in and it was clear it hadn't been warmed. When I mentioned it wasn't fresh, the staff defended it saying it was made the night before. Exactly my point -- if it was made the night before, warm it up. Even Starbucks does that. It was dense, cold, and not enjoyable at all. The coffee I ordered extra hot, and it wasn't. Within a few sips it was already lukewarm. That's a basic request that should be easy to get right. The atmosphere is okay visually, but it's packed with laptop workers and there's barely any space to sit and relax. People treat this place like a co-working space and give you stares if your kid makes any noise. It's a coffee shop, not a library or an office. And the tip screen before you even taste anything? Hard pass on that concept. I carry cash and I tip based on actual experience -- that's how it should work. Service was polite but dismissive when there was a real complaint. Probably won't be back.
