Given the fact this place is an easily-overlooked convenience store in the middle of nowhere; it is…read moresurprisingly WORTH stopping at! Out of sheer hungered desperation while tearing down Route 50 in an attempt to get away from the burbs', my friend and I decided to stop here to buy some candy--it was the only place we had seen in awhile! Upon entering, we were super surprised to see a kitchen and full menu displayed behind the cash register. After much debate, we settled on and ordered a pulled barbecue chicken sandwich with fries ... ... WHAT A GOOD IDEA! Man, it was SOOO damn good! Like, ridiculously could-rival-North-Carolina-BBQ good! And for $7?!?! In addition to how great the food was, the owners were incredibly friendly, generous, and conversational; and the establishment itself was organized and clean. The major downfall? No restrooms readily available which meant that finger-lickin' good barbecue sauce ended up all over my steering wheel. 4/5 Stars.

Out of pure curiosity I decided to try the fried chicken since it was touted as America's best. I decided on a three piece chicken dinner with fries and it was cooked fresh for me while I waited. What I tasted was perhaps the worst fried chicken I have ever had. The chicken just didn't taste right. It was not flavorful and was very greasy. This store is a cross between a convenience store and a flea market and it has not decided on what it really wants to be. There are no restrooms available and the selection of beverages and snacks is not in abundance. I may return and try the pork barbecue but never again the fried chicken. My advice is if you're driving to Winchester, wait until you get there.

Fun little place! Very much an old country style diner, like a local version of Cracker Barrel,…read moreright down to the store with everything you could ever want with their name on it! We ordered the Rueben and the brisket grilled cheese. Both were outstanding! I had the potato salad which was OK but my son got the onion rings which were very good. We grabbed some of their apple cider donuts for the road which were excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed this place.

If you're anywhere near Luray Caverns, Shenandoah, or Massanutten, make sure you stop by The Apple House. This hidden gem is a perfect blend of a local shop, diner, and local bar tavern all wrapped into one cozy experience. Because the food is just that good, expect a line but don't let that scare you. It moves quickly and is absolutely worth the wait. The staff is friendly and helpful which adds to the country experience. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast or lunch, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the flavors, portions, and overall experience. You'll leave full, satisfied, and already thinking about your next visit. If you're in the area... trust me, you're going to want to come back.

The Apple House - As we were there for breakfast, we didn't try the Pub, but it did look VERY nice.
