Stopped by Melania's Gourmet in Front Royal before heading to the National Park and wow - what a treat!. First of all, Front Royal is such a cute town, and this place fit right in. I got an iced Turkish rose pistachio latte (less sweet since the flavor combination sounded pretty indulgent) and it was absolutely incredible. It came with cream on top and was honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've had in a long time. I also grabbed an almond croissant, and it may have been the best one I've ever had. Exactly what I needed on a tough hike. The inside feels like a cozy living room with tons of live plants and so many cute little corners to sit and relax. Everything was spotless, the staff were super friendly, and the whole place just had such a welcoming vibe. This added a serious "umph" to our hiking day. Highly recommend if you're in the area! What a cute lil place! It feels like someone's home which did feel a little awkward at first but totally fits the cozy third space vibes. All the employees were so sweet and informative. They have a good variety of baked goods that cater to different dietary needs. Everything we got was absolutely delicious!! Loved the turkish coffees (hot & cold), the almond croissants, blueberry scones, & la valencia cookies. It was a little pricey but feels justified imo. I have visited several times as I am local - overall this cafe is suberb!! Comments: Great latte - but could have been hotter. Breakfast biscuit excellent - very tasty generous portion, nicely heated but it took a while. Take-home pastry was fresh & yummy. Only thing that made me deduct a star: Some solo customers have a habit of taking over a whole table & "camping" with laptops & piles of paper - using the cafe as their "office". Yes they do purchase a drink & edible. During the week this usually isn't an issue but on weekends & busy times this is unacceptable. Melania's has very limited indoor seating (more outside but it's usually too hot/humid in Summer). I wish the staff would discourage this practice. If you need an "office" in Front Royal there is a large Starbucks and a lovely local library with great A/C a short drive away - both have more than adequate space to conduct your business. That would leave more tables open for small groups and families looking to share a meal. read more

WOW! Just WOW! Stopped in here at my daughter's insistence. Now I know why she insisted we have to go there. Our party of 3 had 3 different coffee drinks and 5 different pastries. Everything was amazing. The workers were very pleasant and engaging as they told us about the pastries. Every single one of the pastries was excellent. OK, one was a cookie, but again...amazing. I'm very torn at the moment however, I can't quite figure out if it's a good thing that my wife and I live over an hour away....or not. One thing I can say with 100% certainty is that every time we visit our daughter in Front Royal, we WILL be stopping at Melania's. read more

Cute cafe that know how to BAKE!! Stopped by Melania's while passing by Front Royal and was surprised by how cute the spot was. Got their chocolate chip cookie that was perfectly chewy on the inside and crispy around the outer layers. They used good quality chocolate & was gooooeeeyyy. Also tried their cinnamon bun and it was so tasty as well! Loved the layers and layers of bread baked really well. There was a fly flying around & landed on their many of their breads -- it didn't stop me from enjoying their pastries, and I've seen this issue happen not just for Melania's but other bakeries too. Is this the cutest cafe in Front Royal? I haven't tried all of them, but I'd already put money on that bet. The place was busy but service was super friendly. I was undecided what to order, but the barista gave me the low-down on how they made a cake for a wedding and loved the recipe so much they decided to continue the recipe for a little while longer. That sounded amazing, but the caramel apple cheesecake also looked amazing. Instead I ordered a cardamom latte with quiche. The server brought the later to my table when it was ready. Not only is it adorable but the drinks and food are AMAZING! It definitely has a fun decor theme and a decent amount of seating. My husband and I have started going regularly and love the consistency of how well their food and drinks are made. Staff is always friendly and we don't typically have to wait long for our items. I visited this morning with a group of four, arriving right as the doors opened on a Saturday. We were the first customers in the building, and while a line began to form behind us, there were no prior orders ahead of ours. Our request was straightforward--three coffees (including one latte) and four pastries. The coffee itself was good, but it took ten minutes to prepare, which felt like a long wait considering we were at the front of the line. Unfortunately, the food was a letdown. I had the carrot muffin, which was definitely not fresh. It had a fairly big hole in the middle with only a smidgen of cream cheese filling. I had heard good things about this place, but in my experience, you shouldn't have to wait ten minutes for coffee when you're the first order of the day, and the pastries should be fresh with an ample amount of filling. While the coffee was good, the slow service and stale muffin made for a disappointing visit. read more

They weren't kidding when they said there are no wrong options at Melania's Gourmet Bakery--everything we tried was absolutely delicious! The bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit was exceptional. The biscuit practically melted in your mouth, and the ratio of bacon to egg to cheese was spot on--perfectly balanced and satisfying. We also ordered the cinnamon roll, which was just right--not overly sweet or overwhelmingly cinnamony. The cream cheese frosting was everything, especially warmed up and melting into the roll... pure heaven. We also tried the Kickin' Chicken sandwich--pulled chicken with sweet pickles--which was a fantastic savory option. Highly recommend if you're looking for something hearty and flavorful. To drink, we had a Turkish latte, lavender Italian soda, and a vanilla cappuccino--all A+. The drinks were thoughtfully crafted and complemented our meal perfectly. We grabbed a few treats to go: the Key lime tart (so good--bright, tangy, and fresh) and the Caramel Mocha Stairway Brownie. The brownie had more of a sponge cake texture, which wasn't quite what we expected and not our favorite item, but it was still tasty. All in all, this place is a gem. AN ABSOLUTE GEM. Everything here is amazing. I've only been twice and have been SO impressed I have already committed myself as a regular. The sandwiches are to die for- I got the monte cristo and could barely finish it. So much food and SO tasty. All the desserts and pastries are fabulous. Very unique and made by extremely talented people. I've seen two reviews say the cookies look stale- honestly, I kind of agree. I still purchased one because it was named "the ultimate chocolate chip cookie" and it didn't taste or feel stale at ALL. It was soft in the center with crispy (still somehow soft) edges! It's the perfect cookie! NOT STALE! I also agree that it's kind of pricy- and absolutely worth it. Where else will you find high quality, unique, fresh and delicious sandwiches and pastries in town? High allergy family: Walking in here, I felt transported back to Canada--to Ottawa in a little patisserie on a quiet stretch of road in the relaxed part of the capitol. We loved the gluten-free peach scones (gluten-free pastry puff? Someone slaved over this! Wonderful!) but almost had a disaster. The gluten free scones were kept beside actual peanuts and peanut butter, yikes! I asked if there was anything else the could offer, and to my happy surprise, they kept their pastry cart nearby, and the scones were a safe distance from other allergens. Almost a trip wasted! I would heavily advise to keep peanut allergens away from any other desserts, since it is such a common issue. read more

My wife and I were walking around old Front Royal near the courthouse checking out its memorials. Next door was Melania's Gourmet. We were disappointed that they were closed and about to walk away when the very friendly owner greeted us and invited us to check out their store. We loved what we saw. Having eaten already, we decided to return the next day to try their sandwiches and sweets. Wonderful! Besides the sandwich (a paninis), I ordered a slice of carrot cake. Melania has ruined me for other carrot cakes! So light and delicious! Front Royal is far from our Charlotte area location. My husband and I Stumbled upon this place, looking for a lunch spot. we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice selection of pastries and pies. In addition to a few sandwich items. We both had the curry chicken salad sandwich. My husband's was on a brioche bun. Mine was on a croissant. Both were fresh and very good. Decor was Boho style. Charming and relaxing.
