On this uneventful Sunday, we decided to drive out to one of these highly recommended places to try out. Street parking was plentiful, but it could be more of an issue if it weren't a quiet Sunday morning. Upon entry, the decor was very minimalist and essentially par for the course for the majority of modern coffee/matcha places. The staff were friendly and greeted us right away. I ordered a simple drip coffee since I simply needed regular coffee. The flavor was good and not too overpoweringly bitter. My wife ordered the Soulmate Matcha. She told me that she enjoyed it overall, but would've liked it even more if the matcha flavor was even stronger. Overall, this was a solid place for coffee and matcha if you're in the area (Bellflower and surrounding cities).

I asked for a cortado with pumpkin syrup, which they already have on hand, and was told they couldn't make it. Seriously? You're a coffee shop with espresso, milk, and pumpkin syrup, but somehow putting them together is impossible? Certain drinks are also restricted to oat milk with no substitutions. I understand having a curated menu, but there's a difference between maintaining standards and making a simple coffee order unnecessarily difficult. Unaccommodating, disappointing, and a complete lack of hospitality. Definitely won't be returning.

Words to describe Padekwa: Positive vibes, Great spot to work/study, Relaxed, Artistic, Creative, Serene, Peaceful, Safe, spacious Location: It is located by Dollar Tree/7-11. There is plenty of parking because it's in a plaza. Drinks: I ordered their specialties-bananas foster latte and beignet cappuccino. Both served hot. They were delicious! I can taste the sweetness of the bananas and beignets, with the warm combo of the hot coffee. Way to go baristas! After sipping on the coffee nectar, it inspired me to get to work on my work projects. Food: I also tried their brownies and coffee cake. They were both generous slices and appetizing as well! Environment: I really love the aesthetics and atmosphere at Padekwa. You see the personal touches of family life and community. I also love the poem on the wall about art. Thank you for providing a wonderful home for people to create and share! If you need a cup of coffee, inspiration, and a place to work, I highly recommend visiting Padekwa!

It's perfectly balanced too. I would get this again for sure, that says a lot cause I'm the type that likes to always try something new. They had some donuts and pastries but we didn't try it. I took a sip of the cookie butter latte my girlfriend got and that was delightful too. They have a parking lot for easy free parking. I love the all black and wood interior. They have outlets pretty accessible anywhere you sit. The WiFi was fast enough for me to work fine. There are not too many tables in here but at the time we came, that wasn't an issue. The lot is inconspicuous but totally fine to park in - pulling in/out is just a bit tight if it's full with bigger cars. I wasn't sure if I could park there until I read the manager's comments on Yelp, so maybe it would be beneficial to put up a sign outside? Just to inform/reassure customers. There's also some limited street parking in front. The inside is bright and minimalist. Not super unique, but it works. There's a nice variety of seating throughout, from benches with outlets, to regular tables and chairs, and barstools against the window. Music was a nice volume and it didn't get too loud even as the cafe slowly filled up with people chatting. The bathroom is on the right end of the shop. I sat by an outlet and was able to get a good chunk of work done for about 4 hours. I'm not sure if it's just because of where I was sitting, but I did start getting a bit chilly (maybe I was near a vent?). Overall, the environment as a whole is pretty conducive to working on a laptop. I got an iced Ube Latte (total $7.71) and I thought it was okay. It's really pretty and very purple, so I was expecting a much stronger nutty/coconut/vanilla taste. There was maybe a hint of ube, but overall it was more reminiscent of a regular latte. I am slightly disappointed, especially because pricing is on the higher end. I sat in front of where the drinks were being sent out, and noticed that each Ube Latte came out looking quite different (some looked extremely purple while others looked just tinted). Not sure if they use any specific measurements, or if the amount of jam really impacts the taste, but it was something that I noticed. Sadly, my drink wasn't very memorable. I was mainly just looking for a change in scenery to get some work done while in LB for the morning. For that purpose, this spot was great. However, my drink didn't amaze me, so it's not something I would come back for. The staff seemed to have a good handle on getting drinks out when there was a rush. Not bad by any means, just not outstanding. TikTok: @qtrinthejukebox Instagram: @qtrinthejukebox

I also regularly buy beans from some of the best specialty coffee roasters around the country. Personally, I believe high-quality coffee, matcha, and tea should be appreciated for their natural flavors. If you need syrups and other add-ins to enjoy your drink, you're probably more of a fan of fun coffee drinks than a coffee purist. Nothing wrong with that, but there's a difference! I first discovered this place after a coffee aficionado posted about it on Instagram. The post somehow found its way into my feed, and I had to check out their Hollywood location. Their pour-over prices were a little steep, so I opted for a cortado instead. Today, I decided to visit their Artesia location to compare the experience. I was particularly intrigued by their selection of beans from Tanat, a specialty coffee roaster from Paris. At $9 for a cup, I hesitated before taking the plunge. However, it was described as a fruit-forward coffee, and I'm a big fan of the tea-like, fruit-forward characteristics often found in Yirgacheffe coffees. This coffee was genuinely interesting. The aroma was wonderfully sweet, with notes of berries. It was the kind of coffee experience meant to be savored slowly at the shop, not gulped down in the car between errands. I ordered an Americano because I didn't want milk masking the flavors of this $9 cup. I wanted to experience the coffee itself. Now, for my one major complaint: THE MUSIC. It was ridiculously loud '90s pop. All I remember is *NSYNC blasting through the shop. I've visited plenty of specialty coffee shops, but I can't recall another one playing this kind of bubblegum pop at such a volume. It completely clashed with the atmosphere I would expect from a specialty coffee shop. Not exactly the soundtrack for savoring a carefully prepared $9 cup of coffee! Aside from the unfortunate music selection, this place has something for everyone: thoughtfully selected coffees that can please serious coffee enthusiasts, as well as creative, fun drinks for those who prefer their coffee and matcha with a little more flair. One practical warning: parking in the shopping center lot is terrible. I was fortunate enough to find a spot on the street. Bottom line: Come for the interesting specialty coffee, stay for the experience, but perhaps bring your own playlist and headphones.
