As it is a drive-thru based coffee shop, there aren't any bathrooms or places to sit. My only warning would be how loud the music is ... sometimes it feels like I'm yelling at the person taking my order so they can hear me over the music. I typically try the seasonal drinks, most recently the Banana Bread Cold Brew , and it was good, but very sweet. Although, everything they have is customizable, including the sweetness level. It's definitely not the cheapest coffee option - I typically get a small seasonal drink, and it ends up being $7 with tax and tip.

Sadly, without any plants separating the area from the parking lot, the entire vibe of this coffee shop, both looking out from inside and sitting outside is not that great. But, vibe aside, let's talk about how it got here. Santos is a family owned small chain. The main owner, Wendy Madden, opened the first coffee shop in 1993 in Tuscaloosa and since expanded into Santos Coffee we know today. The establishment pays homage to Guatemalan saints and ancestral lands where coffee is sourced from, from family's original plantations. The beans are roasted in Birmingham after being imported from Guatemala. The coffee is absolutely excellent here. Seriously, a very tasty latte. Oddly, they do not have an option to get it in a mug, so there is no way to avoid the plastic coating and the flimsy paper cups. Also there wasn't even a design on top of the latte...but ok, maybe that's slightly picky to highlight. Thus, Santos as a whole is a good coffee shop for to go orders. With excellent coffee quality, this is where they really shine. With that said, the vibe and serving methods need work.

I was specifically super excited to try their seasonal matcha special, which was made with horchata (also from Salud!) and strawberries, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, we walked in only to find they were out of the supplies needed to make the drink. :( I was caught off guard and didn't know what to order, but the barista recommended a latte with maple flavor so I went with that. The interior was clean and spacious and had a relaxed and calm but energetic feeling to it. Good place to hang out or work quietly. There's a self-service area to spruce up or fix your drink or grab lids or stir sticks. Service was nice and my drink came out quickly. It was pretty good but not really the "right" drink for me. I like my stuff on the sweet side and this was much more balanced and coffee-forward. That said, it held its own against my sugar-craving taste buds and I drank most of it, which is usually the hallmark of good brew, lol. I don't really blame them because I blanked on what to order and just went with what was suggested. It's probably a great suggestion for lots of other folks! I will say parking was a bit of a pain. I cheated and parked at Chick fil a but I don't think that would've worked if I'd stayed for more than enough time to order and go. Fortunately I was in and out fairly quickly. That said, if I lived in the area, I'd love to hang out for a while. The atmosphere is just perfect. Cool, a tiny bit punk rock, great music, powerful air conditioning, fun stickers and stuff on the tables for local bands, breweries, and celebration of immigrants. Service was super sweet and working diligently. The barista who spoke with me answered my questions happily and made great recommendations. I ordered an iced horchata latte for myself, an iced chocolate Abuelita for my dad, and a chocolate concha to take home to my husband. Our drinks came out quickly and we were on our way. She warmed up the concha without asking, which wound up not being necessary but would've been appreciated had I eaten it immediately. My iced drink was a little over-full and did squeeze out some when I stuck a straw in. Sticky! No big deal, we had wet wipes in the car. The horchata latte was perfection. Sweet, creamy, strong cinnamon and coffee flavors. Exactly how I imagined it would be! My dad said he felt the chocolate Abuelita was a little light on coffee flavor but he rarely drinks iced coffee or "fancy coffee," so YMMV.
