The flavor is nothing like the OG owner's "special blend" and the crawfish have been soggy and overcooked all three times I have purchased them this season. I have eaten crawfish from RMC plenty of times. I will say you must make sure they are in the process of boiling before getting an order. I had a bag of mush today for the most part. the largest crawfish were fine, but it was too long for the small ones and the meat turned to liquid. I expected more from them, I suppose. I'd try them again, but will need to make sure they are coming fresh from the pot versus from the cooler. read more

We ordered a sack of live crawfish from Red Mountain Crawfish for Mother's Day and the prices were very good. Honestly, if you go down to New Orleans, they often jack up the prices for Easter and Mother's Day weekend because that is the popular thing to eat those weekends. So I was pleasantly surprised that the prices weren't far off from down in Southeast Louisiana. As a matter of fact, it was cheaper than some of the locations. The crawfish were for the most part large in the sack. A few medium sized crawfish were in there too but I knew that was possible when ordering the sack. They do not order peelers, which is great considering how small those little guys are. I only had to rinse the sack a few times to get all the mud out and ended up with a couple dead guys, but if you know about crawfish sacks, you're always going to have a couple dead ones. Overall it was a good sack at a great price. The service from ordering online and communicating with them via phone was very simple. The pickup was flawless. Just pull up, give them your info, and they load it up for you. The owners are great people and very friendly. They have been in the crawfish business for a while and have a great supplier down in Louisiana. I can't wait to order more crawfish from them! They also sell shrimp, Royal reds, boudin, among other Cajun delights After living in New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana for the last 13 years, it's nice to know that I can get fresh seafood from Red Mountain Crawfish at a reasonable price. You should visit them sometime and check out their website and Facebook page to see events where they will be boiling. They also boil from their food truck at different locations for a good price that includes boiled crawfish, corn and potatoes, but you can also get sausage too. read more

According to their instagram post, it was the last weekend for crawfish. They open from 3-7 pm. I got here exactly at 3 and was told 30 mins. Cool. I stay 15 mins away, I left at 2:45. I ended up leaving and not getting any because at 3:30 he told us 30 mins again!!! Not only does Red Mountain Crawfish make the best crawfish that I've ever had - it's one of my favorite places to eat in Birmingham. The crawfish are always plump, juicy, flavor-filled, and hot (both literally and figuratively) --- the BEST around! And the sides are great too. New location, same great results. Joshua and his team are some of the most friendly and helpful people I have met in the local business market. No matter how many questions I ask, they are always quick in responding. AND they are always honest on how the crawfish are looking. He has told me to hold off on bigger orders because either the size will get better or the price will. Joshua is a great guy who knows his customers personally. Even if I only use him a few times a year. As many (more likely just a few) of you who read my reviews know, I go down to Louisiana often. So you know I like getting seafood at a good price when I can. But I'm not there, I like to find the best value around. And while RMC's prices can't compare to down there, I don't think you could find a better price in most if not all of Alabama. And with the overhead of DAILY trips, I am very pleased with the price. The new location is currently the only one to get live crawfish. Which is what I usually get. Everyone has their own level of spice and flavors. So I have my own recipe that fits my taste. But that is not to say that their boiled is not good by any stretch of the imagination. In fact they are pretty damn good. One of my favorite parts of springtime is going to Avondale Brewery to have beers and crawfish. The crawfish at Red Mountain Crawfish is the best I've had in Birmingham and I'm sure others will agree. The first weekend I attempted to get some this season, they were sold out on Friday! The second weekend, I was was blessed with a hot day, an entire pound of crawfish, and spicy potatoes and corn, all for less than $10. For it to be the beginning of crawfish season, the crawfish were a decent size and well worth the wait. Not only do they sell boiled crawfish, but they also offer live crawfish for sale. I have tried the gulf shrimp in the past and they are just as good as the crawfish. I wish they sold the seasoning because I would definitely buy it. They also have gator dogs and andouille dogs if that's your thing. I would recommend you try this seasonal favorite and pair it with a cold brew. read more

I ordered 75 lbs on the Thursday before Memorial Day, for pickup on Sunday morning at 11:15 and a boil time of 2:00 p.m. Got a call Sunday morning saying their driver was late leaving the farm and my order would not be in until 4:00 p.m, 2 hrs after my planned boil start time. Luckily Crawdaddy's came through like a champ and had some on the spot. I got 90 lbs and at a lower cost than what these clowns offered me. Fantastic news... This food truck/stand/trailer is now on the move. For a while it's been stationary behind Avondale Brewing, but now it's on the move. While it hasn't settled on a new home, it looks like you can normally find it on Hwy 31 in Vestavia. I heard about the change yesterday and had to go check it out. When I found it, it was in the lot across from Publix where the Boy Scouts set up the Christmas trees. I got 5 pounds of Crawfish to split between two people. There were only two pieces of corn that came with it. At first I was bummed, because I love potatoes and sausage as well. Then, I realized that that meant I was actually getting a full 5lbs of crawfish instead of a bunch of filler. On top of that, they were top notch. Good luck keeping me away. I'm pained to say that we couldn't finish the whole five pounds. The only reason they don't get the fifth star yet, is because they didn't take a card (yet). I found the Red Mountain Crawfish truck at Avondale Brewing on Saturday afternoon. The crawfish were phenomenal today. The crawfish were big and consistent in size. They were clean, and there were no straight tails (a bad sign). The seasoning was flavorful and spicy. The crawfish were allowed to soak after being boiled. This allows the meat to absorb the seasoning. The tails were extremely easy to peal. My tray was served with a corn on the cob and some potatoes. I recommend pairing a few pounds of crawfish with an Avondale beer. That combination could not get any better! read more

Ordered a sack of live crawfish twice and perfect size. Most people want them large and that's not the case with crawfish. I found none dead in my sack and they were so good. If you don't like to cook then then get them cooked as they can cook them very good as well. I only wish they did live blue crabs. At least cooked would be great on a Friday and Saturday. Red Mountain Crawfish has been my go-to location to get some great crawfish. I never had anything there that wasn't fantastic from the crawfish to the shirmp to the blue crab (when they do have it). They are reasonably priced and the service is generally really good. I am one of those people that crave spice and heat in my seafood and the boil that Red Mountain uses is perfect. The crawfish are nice and fresh, the owner informed me that they go down to some secret location in Louisiana to get their crawfish so wherever they go they need to buy stock in them. The shrimp that I had was some of the biggest I have ever had and they were seasoned perfectly also. I enjoy going to Avondale brewery just to enjoy the scene and eat this delicious food. As a catholic during the lent season, my Fridays are full of fish and seafood. I saw this had good reviews so I decided to check it out. This was definitely an old food truck from the outside, I believe the newer one had just been painted.Covid19 wise, I was disappointed to see none of the staff were wearing gloves or mask. I ordered a pound of crawfish and there was no wait time. They were pretty good although I would have preferred them to be a little warmer than the temp they were served at. Sustainability wise my crawfish were served in a plastic bag so there is room for a more sustainable option in the future. Never a bad experience! Our crawfish were delicious today! They were out of shrimp but I will be back this week for some! I fell in love with these guys last crawfish season and I've been hooked ever since. The boil is always perfect. The prices are great. And sometimes, if you're lucky, they have blue crab! OMG!
