Demetrio was very funny and a great server. He was pretty busy but everything was delicious the green chili cheeseburger that I got, and he even convinced me to try his wets lol I would definitely go back to see him and for the food. What a great diner experience. Very Retro. The serving staff was young, but very much on the ball. Kudos to the trainers and willingness of servers to play the role. Sloppy Joe was remarkable. Onions and green peppers added just the right touch. Potato salad was a great compliment. I came to have the blueberry desert. I found it hot and delicious. The scoop of vanilla ice cream was so good. The only downfall was the blueberry mix they use has fillers. I'm thinking apple. I'm sure commercial mixes do this to reduce cost. I raise blueberries, so I'm aware of the cost involved. I doubt the average consumer would catch this issue. No point in changing just for one customer. The service is friendly, but the staff is overwhelmed and the food comes out slowly. The poor wait staff is piled on and can't keep up. The girl working the milkshake machine looked like she was about to lose her mind. Meanwhile, the manager sits there doing nothing and not helping the flow of things. I had the patty melt and green chili stew. The stew was cold and just meh. Then the patty melt...wow...a grey sad patty with sad grilled onions lacking caramelization and served without sauce! What? This is a great restaurant for causal dining. A great family friendly environment! In the main room there Is a whole row of huge pez dispensers that make for great entertainment for rowdy 2 and 3 yr old girls. The kids menu is reasonable and there are daily specials. This was amazing! Totally not expecting this incredible dining experience! I came here because it was walking distance to the hotel I was staying in. So I was only looking for convenience. But my dish was so good, I felt like the cook read my mind to learn what I liked and then he stepped it up from there! I ordered the liver and onions because that's not a common menu item and making liver taste good can be challenging. I gauge how well it is prepared based on the way my mom cooked it when I was little. Guys, this dish was better than my moms!! The bacon on top added a layer of texture and richness that I didn't even know was possible! You could cut the liver with a fork, it was so tender! I finished the main course off with an awesome warm slice of strawberries rhubarb pie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was like taking a Time Machine back to the 1950's when everything was wholesome, pure and fresh (at least that's what I imagine the 50's to be like). I was stunned to have such an unexpected incredible experience. As amazing as the meal was however, it would not have been as enjoyable if not for the top-notched service that I received from Demetrio. He had me smiling from the moment I sat down with his jovial banter and kind demeanor. He knew the menu well and was able to provide recommendations, as well as tell me the reactions of others who ordered certain dishes in the past. The fact that he had personally sampled the dishes and could express his personal opinion was very reassuring. Demetrio is a star and I hope others get to experience his attentiveness when you come here. I highly recommend Diner 66 if you are anywhere near the area of Albuquerque, NM!! read more

Why the one star, I know you're all asking. Well, this is like an old dear friend, while not totally dead, is seriously ailing. Route 66 Diner, a place that I have been going to for years and years, appears to have seriously deteriorated. I know, I know, get to the point. My wife and I were visiting a friend in the hospital nearby, and after leaving, decided to stop at Route 66 Diner. The juke box was belting out Wild One as we were shown to our table. All seemed fine. A very friendly waitress greeted us, took our drink order and gave us time to look at the menu. She brought the drinks. I had ordered a chocolate milkshake which was immediately confiscated by my wife, we share everything (according to her) but I have to say the shakes are top notch. Of that, there is no argument. We placed our food orders, and I got my milkshake back, somewhat diminished in size. Anyway, this is where things started to go sideways. I told my wife that I needed to wash my hands (hospital ook and all) and I merrily trod off to the Men's Room. Upon entering, there, standing tall in the middle of the room, were three cockroaches, bordering on the size of Hot Wheels cars. The biggest one looked like the "boss" and the two henchmen stood by to back him up. Their huge size belied their obviously excellent diet. The bright sun was shining through the glass blocks into the room, but they could care less. We stared at each other, me in incredulity and they, waving their antennae and daring me to come closer, or make any kind of aggressive moves for that matter. They were not afraid, not scurrying around, but just watching me. I washed my hands and dried them, numerous eyes watching my every move from their floor- level location. Not wanting to do battle with them, I acquiesced and departed, leaving them to their own devices, and sought out an employee. I found one, related my story and he gave me (a rehearsed) surprised expression, feigned total ignorance too easily, and said he would "tell" someone. Curiosity caused me to look through the doorway to the kitchen from the cash register where I noted debris on the floor - lettuce, some mashed fries and some other unidentifiable items. On the way back to the table, I looked into the other doorway and the floor was definitely in need of a good cleaning as well, to be kind. Our food came, the burgers had items on them that the waitress was told to leave off, but we just removed them, no big deal. They were just okay. But not great. The fries were good though. They know how to do shakes and fries. Sanitation, however, not so much. After the "showdown" with the hefty cockroaches, the food just didn't taste as good. Sadly, another one of my favorite spots has lost its mojo. And no, I didn't inform my wife of my encounter. It was a considered decision for the best on my part. read more

Pretty solid little diner. I like all the quirky stuff everywhere, like the Pez dispensers. Our waitress was nice and service was fast. You pay up front at the end of your meal, just fyi. I got the green Chile stew and it was pretty good- lots of potatoes and meat, but the broth wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. I also got a half grilled cheese, which I didn't particularly enjoy (Texas toast with American cheese, great for kids tho!) and a side of fries, which were great! My coworker got the chicken tortilla soup which was also really tasty and had lots of chicken in it. I wish we had tried the frito pie- next time! I was also told the milkshakes are good. Not many healthy options, so I don't know that it would be my first choice for lunch, but it was overall a pleasant meal! read more

This place was an old school gas station on route 66 the first half of the 20th century. The restaurant, with some space added from the original gas station, has all kinds of road signs and other signs from the 1950's. They also have a huge collection of Pez dispensers on display. And a good juke box that I remember from the 1960's. Ready to take coins and play records. My wife and I joined their 66 Diner Club online and we were able to each get a free shake with our meal. An email from 66 Diner has to be shown to verify and they may take more than a day, so do it in advance of a visit. They have about 20 flavors of shakes. See their online menu for the flavors. Shakes made with real ice cream and come with a canister to complete about two glasses for each order. My wife said that her green chili potato soup was a bit spicy but good. Okra was good. Burger was typical of a fifties malt shop burger. Juicy, not dry at all. We asked for medium and our burgers were not quite medium but they tasted good. A four star burger. French fries were about average for a restaurant. Prices were average. No surprises there. Our waitress was pleasant and wore a 1950's type uniform for a malt shop. Fifties music played. Not early 1960's but all 1950's music. The bathroom was clean. read more

On a recent trip to Albuquerque, our hotel had no food. Tired of going out, one night we checked UberEats and settled on this diner. Both of us went with the BLT. One of us had fries and one had potato salad and we were both pleased. We had also requested rye bread if available for one of the sandwiches, and they honored that request. Cool site in Albuquerque is this great 50s looking retro diner. Unfortunately, the food and service don't quite deliver on the expectation and it left us wishing we just took a picture of the outside and had breakfast somewhere else. Ambience is great with a bunch of old neon, 50s posters, a pez collection and the floor even has a hopscotch court tiled into it. We were seated quickly, but it seems like maybe a tour bus came in just before us so taking our order took a very long time as did our food coming out. Somehow, we must have gotten behind them and like every other table that came in just after us because we also wound up not getting our food until some folks who came in at the same time we're already finished eating and leaving. Server and owner were nice if powerless to help and food was unremarkable. Yummy! And so 1950s! This is an authentic Fifties/Sixties diner experience, yes I know that from personal experience. The food is quite good the ambiance is fun, fun, fun! Its tastefully done so it feel completely authentic. The food is fun and the shakes are good so we enjoyed them. There are multiple rooms wit different decorations so you can have a unique experience each time you visit. Best of all, the staff is excellent! 66 Diner is a great place for a good 'old comfort food meal. My wife enjoys their liver & onions dinner since the only way she can get it at home is to fix it as a meal for one. (I'm not a fan at all). I usually vary what I order, but one of my favorites is the Diego's Diamond Back Burger. Spicy, but not too spicy. Both my wife and I really enjoy their potato salad as a side. It's not made in-house, but whoever they get it from has a great recipe. It's so good that we persuaded the owner to sell us a four pound tub for a party we were hosting. It was the only item that was all gone before the party was over. Yum. Their prices are reasonable and their staff has always been super friendly and helpful. read more

My kids were with me today and they definitely were asking questions and wanted to know more about the 50-60 era diner fee! We all ate different shakes from their shake menu, and everyone had smiles eat to ear! The old school hamburgers come in 505 (nm) inspired flavors. The fries are crispy... My friend and I came across this spot on our road trip and considering we had been on the road for 12+ hours we were starving. Keep in mind it was around 11pm and not many spots were open so we get here and order 2 of the 66 burger comb's with 2 vintage black cherry pop's to drink. I don't know if it was because we were starving but my friend and I devoured that combo and washed it down with their amazing black cherry soda and when I say amazing I mean it. I was very impressed with the inside, It showed me some insight of how diners were back in 1950's which was very mesmerizing also I really loved how the employees rocked the old school uniforms. We googled a cool diner to try while we were visiting and this place did not disappoint! The diamond back burger was SPICY but i love spicy so it was delicious to me. If you want a mild burn this probably isn't for you though. The fries and onion rings were nothing special but they were good. My husband was satisfied with his cheesesteak BUT THE POTATO SALAD WAS SO FLIPPING GOOD! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THAT! All in all, it was a great nostalgic experience! Seeing all of the 4 and 5 star reviews, we had to stop in and try. Had a large party of teenagers to feed. Unfortunately, the burgers, fries, chicken tenders, French dip, meatloaf, and other sandwiches just did not meet expectations. Very under seasoned and bland. Hugely disappointed after entering such a fun and retro atmosphere. However, the entire staff was outstanding with their customer service. This is my absolute favorite place to go for what i call a "comfort burger", my comfort food, they make it exactly the way I like it...with pepper jack, lots of pink in the middle and a fried egg on top. And a side of 66 fries! I'm a sucker for this schtick; I love oldies and doo-wop, they have a jukebox. Collectors items, they have hundreds of pez dispensers and wall to wall motorist memorabilia. And old fashioned shakes, the Elvis is my go-to. This place is a must for any out-of-towner, whether you're touring the historical Route 66 or just passing through. This place is actually a new building and not the original 66 Diner. It burned a few years ago and was closed for awhile. But it was so popular and we all missed it so much that they got their act together and re-built. Thanks guys! It would have been a big empty space in my eating agenda, if you hadn't. I give this place a FIVE. Five for atmosphere, five for food & five for service . . . . hey that makes them a 15! I love going here! It is very casual, typical diner food that takes you back to the days when you asked for a cherry coke you got a real cherry coke. Not something out of a can with a metallic taste. Great burgers & shakes & sandwiches. If you are going to order a piece of the yummy pies, be sure you save room. They are decent size pieces of pie, not some little skinny sliver. Warm with ice cream . . mmmm . . Green chili stew / soup is Hot, but oh so tasty. Actually, I've never had anything but "5" food here. Worth a trip when you are really hungry. Or when you just need an afternoon pick-me-up. My favorite thing is their itty-bitty ice cream sundae. It used to be served in a shot glass (until too many were stolen). Now it comes in a shot glass size plastic dish. My recommendation is that they put their logo on real shot glasses and buy them by the gross, bump the price up a few cents and let the customers take them home. Great advertising! The food was scrumptious; fresh, smelled incredible, ample and frankly beautiful, with some locally grown ingredients! Very highly skilled cooks. Perfect. I noticed plenty of floor space where the booths are, so why no adult sized booths? We're not overweight, just tall (6'3, 6'3 and 6'4). The average persons and with children are fine, cozy and comfortable. We made do, but generous sized booths, especially with ample floor space like they have, would add a lot to the experience.
