Stumbled upon this place today with my boys. Service was wonderful and friendly. Tables are very nice and chairs are comfortable. The most important part was the food... sooo yummy! We tried two apps among the three of us: Sweet and spicy meatballs and Buffalo chicken cheese fries. Main courses: Hangover burger, grilled fish tacos, both with Mac and cheese as side and coconut shrimp with tots. Tots were perfectly extra crisp and tried garlic aioli and sweet/spicy Thai sauce and yummy, but dipping the shrimp or tots in the meatball sauce was the best! First time going for breakfast and had a HORRIBLE experience! The service was slow, which I could forgive, but the incompetence and lack of attention to customer requests was a big problem. I ordered a meal that came with bacon and eggs, which I ordered over medium. The bacon was soft and flimsy (barely cooked) and the eggs were inedible because they were so runny that it was as if they were just cracked, cooked for 30 seconds, and put on a plate. Maybe I was supposed to specify that I wanted the bacon to be cooked and crispy, but this was probably the most undercooked bacon I have been served in my life (like chewy soft, if you know what I mean). Then, I ordered an omelet that came with hash browns and specified NO mushrooms. It came out filled with mushrooms. They offered to remake the meals after we pointed these issues out and took my plate (hash browns and all) away. When they brought the meal back out to me, it was just the omelette and no hash browns! When I asked where they were, I was told "oh he just made the omelet...you want the hash browns too?" I mean, obviously...it's supposed to come with my meal and you took them away! If you weren't going to give me more hash browns, at least freakin' tell me so I can keep and eat the ones I have! Then, I was told the breakfast kitchen was closed, so that was that. No manager came out to apologize or even acknowledge things. No discount was given for the obviously poor experience. As a matter of fact, I wish I would have looked at the itemized receipt prior to my husband paying because I think we were over charged. The math isn't mathing when compared to the menu's pricing. I was greatly disappointed and would NOT recommend eating here. The food, once prepared as requested, was OK at best. Huge disappointment. Came here with my wife, two grown kids and my grand baby. We were a group of 5. There were 4 tables open that were set up for six. We were told they couldn't seat us unless it was a group of 5 or more. Two more couples came in, and they were turned away also. Showed up at 10:45am on a Saturday morning and was told they weren't serving breakfast anymore. Which we were fine with eating lunch but then we were told we would not be offered lunch until all the tables who ordered breakfast were done. When we looked around 5 tables were waiting to be served still. The waitresses were rude rolling their eyes. Then apologized when we decided to leave. That was the first time we had gone into that restaurant. Bad first impression. We never asked to be served before other customers. I was excited to try this place but left disappointed. Service was good but the food was just okay- not well seasoned or flavorful. Ordered fried mushrooms- they came in slices which was weird (I feel it was to make the plate look fuller while only serving a few mushrooms), overly greasy, and lacked seasoning; a side salad but was told there was an upcharge for thousand islands dressing?; grilled chicken club- chicken was nice and juicy but again, lacking flavor, another upcharge for sweet potato fries... Similar to Babe's or Longhorn Cafe but not as good and way more expensive. Cost was $60 (not including tip) for the mushrooms appetizer, 2 drinks, 2 chicken club sandwiches- one with sweet potato fries and the other with onion rings and the extra side salad (I'm pretty sure they charged me full price for the main garden salad which was $10 *without protein* even though I was served a small bowl...). I didnt get a receipt and honestly should have questioned it but the girls were so nice, I just wanted to pay and leave. It was a sit-down service which was weird. It seems more like an order-at-the-counter-then-sit kind of place but there was a hostess and waitress. It was empty when we got there so it seemed excessive. They take pride in all of their service from Sierra (Ciara) as a server to the kitchen staff and the outstanding food they put out. Me and my boyfriend went for lunch one day and it was delicious! Not only was the service impeccable - the waiter was personable and super kind. She checked up on us throughout our entire time there and even sparked a conversation with us. The cafe is military themed and pulls it off well! Honestly, I was having a really bad night. I've lived in Helotes most of my life and I've always seen this little place, but never stopped and I thought last night was the perfect opportunity. The waiting staff was incredibly friendly and very attentive to my needs, asking me if I needed anything if everything was good everything you would want a good waiter to do when I was checking out. I even got asked by somebody in the back if the food was good and we had a small conversation which made experience a little more personable. Just nine months in the game, this place has remained consistently in point and churning out nothing but 5 star reviews on goodie and Yelp. We tasted why today. The Hangover was güey and gorgeous Featuring 8 Oz seasoned patties, seasoned and grilled to perfection, on a grilled sourdough bun, laid on a bed of hash browns, smothered in Queso, topped with American cheese, featuring hearty slices of apple wood smoked bacon and finished off with a perfectly runny egg Def couldn't finish this bad boy but I enjoyed every juicy bite and can't wait for my leftovers. Oh, and the tater tots on the side were terrifically toasted! Mama had the South of the Border burger on Texas Toast, w/ thousand island dressing, caramelized onions and with yummy Swiss cheese. Our first time there and we were simply amazed with our order. The food was fabulous their white gravy was the best we've tasted in San Antonio. As much as I love Helotes, I'm consistently disappointed by the dearth of full-service, non-chain restaurants. For years, I've pined for an independently owned little café located within a few miles of my haunted abode. Imagine my delight when I happened upon 6 Klicks Café, a hidden gem tucked away surreptitiously behind the Dairy Queen in the strip mall across from O'Connor High School. Over the course of several visits, I've sampled a variety of menu items, most of them tasty and worthy of repeat patronage. For the purposes of readability, I've listed and reviewed each item separately. Enjoy! Chicken-fried chicken (5.0/5.0): The chicken breast (real meat, not chopped up, reconstituted glop) was tender and juicy. The breading was light and crispy with no soggy bits. I was especially taken with the peppery cream gravy, which bore hints of roasted garlic. The accompanying sides of mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans were winners, too. The former were creamy and tasted of real potatoes (not powder), and the latter were cooked al dente and tossed generously with bacon, onions, and garlic. Triple cheese chipotle bacon burger (4.5/5.0): I could tell prior to biting into this monstrosity that the patty was hand-pressed (i.e., shaped irregularly -- a good sign) and that the bun would likely hold its own against the juices from the meat and sauce. The patty was indeed juicy and delicious, albeit a *tad* overcooked for my nitpicky ass. The Swiss, cheddar, and pepper jack cheeses all melted nicely into the meat. As you can tell from my photo*, the bacon was thick and crispy, a far cry from the thin, flaccid, pre-cooked crap common at most fast-food burger joints. The lettuce and tomato were crisp and fresh, and the buttery bun smelled and tasted of hearth. When I commented on the bun, the server assured me they source their breads from a local bakery. Onion ring fans (if you're not one, then get the hell off my page and unfollow me) will find much to love in the crisp, peppery bangles served at 6 Klicks. The onions were caramelized slightly within their shells yet retained their snap and astringency. Cajun pasta with blackened chicken and shrimp (5.0/5.0): This is the kind of comfort meal a friend (a really *good* friend and an *excellent* cook) would make you for dinner at his house. The chicken was juicy and the meaty shrimp tasted as though they came fresh from the Gulf. The star of the show, though, was the creamy, surprisingly spicy sauce. That stuff was so delicious that I used the garlic bread to sop up every last drop. If you get only one dish as 6 Klicks, make it this one! Tequila key lime pie (2.0/5.0): The only disappointment came in the form of this decidedly average key lime pie. When I bite into a slice of key lime pie, I expect to taste key lime. Alas, I detected very little of the tart, slightly acidic flavor characteristic of key lime. The custard was too sweet with only the slightest hint of lime. If tequila was an ingredient -- as implied by the name -- then it, too, got lost in the sweetness. Give this one a pass. Chocolate brownie (5.0/5.0): A dense, hot, buttery, fudgy delight that tasted as though it was baked to order. I'm not a fan of cakey, crumbly brownies, so this treat had me cooing. Yes, literally cooing. I was with my parents and my mom told me that neighboring diners were staring at me. Well, let them stare, damn it! If you're in the mood for a home-cooked meal in Helotes, then look no further than 6 Klicks. A word of caution, however: the server (yes, singular) does her best but gets overwhelmed. If you visit during peak times, expect a long wait to be acknowledged. On one occasion, I had to walk towards the kitchen and announce my presence. Be patient, though, and I guarantee you will enjoy a great meal. *Yeah, one of *my* photos here. I am, of course, referring to the ones on this page with good lighting, proper angels, and no clutter in the foreground and background. Seriously, folks, I'm not a professional photographer (perhaps I should be), but the rest of you people need to step up your Yelp photo skills. Simply pointing your camera in the general vicinity of food just won't cut it. Sorry for the rant, but I can't post a review without making at least one self-aggrandizing statement. I barely looked at the menu on line, so when I got there, I was pleasantly surprised that the menu had depth. It's not all hamburgers and fried food...it's wraps, pastas, sandwiches, burgers and salads. The service was great and the quality of food was too! I will definitely go back. I'm gonna give this place 5 stars because I want people to try it. From what I ate today it's deserving of at least 4.5 but I really want to get them business. It was recommended on my nextdoor app by some neighbors and they mentioned it is veteran owned. It is behind the dairy Queen in Helotes. And you can still miss it because their sign is not up yet even though they have been open close to 6 weeks. Some rule about signs only going up once a month. I think this is probably costing them business because you would have no idea a cafe is there or that they are open just driving by. It's next to Ella's barber shop. I drove right past it when I first pulled in and I had a good idea of what I was looking for already. Hope the sign comes soon. Inside was clean. Very empty though. No one came in the whole time my son and I sat there and ate. Probably because hardly anyone knows it's there. There's a tv on the wall. I saw a fridge with canned drinks and bottled waters as well. We were able to get sweet tea that they made. As for the food, I had a regular cheeseburger with bacon. Wanted to start simple before I really dove into the menu. But if the burger failed I wouldn't have gone back. It didn't disappoint. Patty was nicely cooked and so was the bacon. Bread was very soft. It came with fries but you don't get many. My son had the kids chicken tenders. He ate it all but also asked for another plate of fries right after he was done. The portion was small. My suggestion would be on kids' tenders to give them three, as two is just not enough. He's only 7 and wanted more. And he can be a picky eater. He did like the taste of everything though so that's always a plus. Our waitress was very attentive and I apologise for forgetting you name. But as I mentioned, we were the only ones there the entire time so I don't know if it would be different if it were busy. But my tea stayed filled and we were asked more than once if we needed anything else. All in all, a fair experience so far. I will be back. I hope to see it with more patrons when I do. Very open with lots of windows and natural sunlight flowing in. 6/10 The staff - understaffed and unable to take care of everyone like they should. They were trying though and doing their best. Was just a little frustrated with lack of attention at times. 7/10 The food - started with the fried mushrooms. Looked sketchy when they came out, but were actually very good!!
