Came in for a late lunch almost 2PM on a Federal holiday. It was evident that they were short staffed. Our server, bless her heart, tried her very best. Giving her five stars, but the other servers were not cognizant of everyone's needs. Actually saw a table that was abandoned with untouched drinks. Sushi was acceptable, they did not disappoint, but it was not impressive. I've seen and tried better. Since service was slow, green tea came warm and NOT hot. Oh man! It's been quite a while, but I decided to come back to try it out and see if anything has changed. Unfortunately, this experience was worse than the one from 3 years ago. I come in and ask the host if I can sit at the outside bar. 10 mins pass by and nobody had attended us. The bartender purposely did not attend us because he kept walking by and never once acknowledged us. I go back inside to ask the host if the windows at the outside bars are to be opened by us or the bartender, because nobody had attended us. She told me she'd go tell him that we were waiting to be attended since he needs to open the window. 5 minutes pass by and lady manager came to us saying that the reason nobody had attended us was because the window we were sitting at was broken then she proceeds to point at the window saying "as you see" mind you there was no indication or sign for us to know it was broken. It just looked like a normal window, anyways she tried to make it seem like we were not welcomed and by her tone she also seemed bothered. We move to another place by a window and the bartender is just looking at us like annoyed at his job and that he has to come take our order and he still makes us wait after that inconvenience...Another 3 minutes pass by and still nobody came and you'd think they'd move us and give us menus clearly after waiting so long. We ended up leaving just like he wanted us too and we walked to yardhouse. On our way to yardhouse, a guy who had seen everything happened to approach us and said that he always has poor service there and I to tell him what had happened...so again, super and extremely ridiculous and unprofessional!! This was probably the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant from the manager/owner. I never thought I would have to argue with the owner because he was too cheap and prideful to replace an entree or give me a refund. The entrees here aren't authentic as they are "premade" and have items from many Asian countries to focus on making the food taste like their portraying countries. I have been here previously before and ordered the Thai curry. I had assumed that it would taste the same as last time. When I received the curry, I tried a little bit of the sauce and it was much spicier than before. It was too spicy for me to even eat. I requested to get a replacement for another item and when the server went to ask the manager, they were told that they can only provide me more rice and water. When the manager came over, he had a bad attitude and spoke rudely to me saying that he won't allow me to replace my entree for something else since I "accepted" the curry. What does that even mean?? Am I supposed to make the server hold my food in the air before placing it on the table so I can decide if I want to accept the food??? His reasoning was that the Thai curry came premade so they are not able to adjust the spice level. Well that's great that your restaurant and staff are too incompetent to make basic curry from scratch, but it is pretty standard for a restaurant to replace your entree if there is an issue with it. Even McDonald's would replace your meal without any questions! It's just crazy that the owner would blame me for the mistake when it's obvious that it's their cheap quality vendors being inconsistent with the premade curry. I came here after work for a late lunch with a coworker. They have a variety of food available from sushi to fried rice to fried chicken. They have bar seating, high tops, regular tables, and outside seating. The paintings against the kitchen are pretty, and the wood walls give the restaurant a nice look. I ordered the ramen cup fried rice and Harajuku sweet tea. The food was really tasty and had a good mix of veggies and meat. The drink was refreshing and sweet but not too sweet, it truly tasted like an iced tea! The prices are also not bad for the portions. The only reason it is a four star is because of the service. This place doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a sports bar? Is it a sushi place? A hip sushi place? A pan Asian place? A family place? The music and room design suggest little bits of all of those, with a healthy dose of prison yard klieg lighting. The food wasn't bad,, though. Opened with shumai and their crispy (but not quite crispy enough...) rice and spicy tuna apps. Both tasty. Tuna presented beautifully. The shumai, though, appeared to have been haphazardly dumped on to a bed of hastily torn iceberg lettuce. Both were tasty. Their special maki (one eel oriented, the other tuna/yellowtail and jalapeño) were prepared and presented well, with ample portions for the price. They messed up my nigiri order but took care of it with no questions or hassle. Bravo. I asked for a list of their whiskeys--they have a wide variety, and I wanted to try the Japanese ones -- but no go, and our server, who was otherwise fabulous, wasn't in a position to recommend. When I received the tab, I was amused and aghast to see that my Makers Mark earned a $3 premium for being on the rocks. Thee bucks for half a scoop of ice (wasn't even a big rock)?! Seriously? Needless to say, I finished in, and it WAS some damn fine ice. Like all of the free ice I've ever had though. WTAF? We love this place for happy hour! This is my husband and my go-to date spot! They have the best lychee margarita and it's half price during happy hour (5-7pm)!! The raw fish here is fresh and I absolutely recommend yellowtail belly and other sashimi and nigiri on the menu. The service is also great. This place is suitable for dates, hanging out with friends and even for family members with little kids. They have a nice outdoor space with lounge and table seating. read more

We stopped in for dinner on Friday night. It's a beautiful late spring morning and we wanted to dine outside. There are several restaurants lined along one side of Springfield mall, and we Knew they all offered. Plenty of outside seating. Surprisingly, there were open tables tables at all the restaurants and we decided to try this Asian fusion spot that's new to us. The hostess greeted us with a smile and seated us immediately in the ample outside area. Most tables were filled but there were about 4 tables available and we chose one. Smooth sailing! There's a good sized bar, a portion of which is revealed to the outside seating. Inside and out, the bar was fairly full, with few open seats. But, there is also a comfy looking out area center of the outside dining court. We'll be returning at some point just for cool evening drinks. Speaking of drinks, we found them very tasty if a little sweet. She had the mandarin orange crush and I had the passion fruit Moscow mule. We recommend both but, I'll request a side of soda water to cut the sweet as we drink them down. And don't let the delicious taste fool you. There's a surprise kick! Our waitress was friendly l, efficient and attentive, with hovering. I hope we get her again. We ordered the sashimi regular combination as an appetizer. As an appetizer, it's enough for 3-4 to share. It was a bit filling for just us two. The fish was fresh and delicate and the assortment was much appreciated. A lovely representation each fish. To sum up, while my wife will almost always choose fish over any these protein, she's never been a sushi/sashimi fan. Well, she enjoyed this sashimi. That's saying a lot! She was in a real adventurous mood and ordered one my favorite Asian dishes, the salt and pepper shrimp. It's never interested her in the past. It turned out to be one of my favorite preparations of the dish. Yum! And, she liked it! I ordered the hot Bim Bim Bop. While I like this Korean standard, I rarely ordered it out anymore because I'm so often disappointed and my wife makes a delish Bim Bim Bop at home. I rushed it and I'm glad I did. It was perfectly prepared to my liking. This restaurant was an excellent choice and my only hope is that they can consistently duplicate this evening. I really wanted to like this place because I believe it's black or minority owned. And when you walk inside the restaurant the ambience is so nice and stylish that I would have expected everything to be top notch. But that was not the case unfortunately. I guess there is nothing actually wrong with that but I was hoping I would be able to get like a more extensive happy hour for the drinks. But even the food items was leaving everything was fried sushi and a couple of appetizers. But nothing that I would even waste my time choosing. And I don't eat any of my sushi fried.. So I ended up getting the steamed chicken and veggie dumplings which was very good I wanted a 2nd helping. Wish they would have been on the happy hour menu. Also, got the double toro roll ($20) and the spicy yellowtail and added cream cheese. Now both were really good and larger rolls. You get 8-pieces with each roll. The double toro would have been better if it wasn't like really wet. The drinks I tried $4 short Blue Moon (my personal fav tap only) and tried a dragonfruit mojito was alright; and a gin martini that's shown with the large flower in the drink it was really good. They did give me another drink I can't remember the name, but it wasn't good at all so they took it off my tab. I'll give them an overall score of 3 1/2 for ambience and the freshness of the sushi and the dumplings. Service-was a 2-stars and I was at the bar. They just seemed so occupied with everyone else but me until I was about done with my food and was paying for my check. What's Hot - Menu. Pretty extensive and there's something for everyone, maybe even vegans, but I'm not completely certain. If you're not into raw fish, there are many meat options, which is nice. There's also a good option of entrees, which include dishes like curries, pad thai, bibimbap, etc... Their menu is somewhat Asian fusion, which is not my thing, but their menu is predominately Japanese food, which is a good thing. Any ethnic that gets too fusion sacrifices quality. - Quality. Pretty delish. All our food was served fresh, which was when it was most flavorful, as well. - Portions. Pretty big! Hubby and I were pleasantly surprised as to how much was included in their appetizers. For example, their bulgogi waffle fries come in a large bowl that definitely serves more than 1 person. Their sliders come with fries, which surprised us, because we thought slider appetizers would just be the slider sandwiches. Their sliders are 2 slider and fries. Pretty good value for money. - Price. We were fortunate enough to make it in time before their happy hour ended, so all of our appetizers were less than the regular price. To be fair, if you do order their regular price food, their portions are pretty good value for money. - Service. Not bad. Depending on the day and time you go, I recommend you make a reservation, which we did, because we went on a Friday night. Our waitress was good and we were able to get what we wanted, but it wasn't always easy to flag her down. Again, depending on the day and time you go, it might be very busy. - Health and safety. They have hand sanitizer at the front desk and we did see a few staff wearing face masks. During this time of the pandemic, it's reassuring to see businesses that interact with the public take extra precautions. What's Not - Service. It wasn't always easy to find and/or flag down our waitress, which didn't bother us. However, when we tried to ask other wait staff for something, we weren't able to get any help. For example, one of the staff brought one of our appetizers and I asked him a question regarding a menu item. He told me he couldn't help me and that he was only serving food. Odd, but whatever. Stopped by the other day. The atmosphere was toned down. Looks like it could get lively and have a good time for after work. The sushi was was ok, I think the fish has been sitting too long during the day. For a big established like this, they really need to have real sushi professionals managing the food that comes out of the kitchen. You can not just hire anyone and give them a few classes and expect them to seve authentic Asian cuisine. This is not a real Aisan fusion restaurant, it's a bit more of a fast food sushi mall restaurant with outdoor seating. Came here on the week day. As others have said this place is located in the mall so parking shouldn't be an issue. That being said the restaurant is very big and has a nice bar as well. The interior looked great and everything is nicely placed. We ordered some sushi and sea bas. I thought all the food was great and well plated. Decent restaurant with new staff. My friends and I made a reservation online for the 4 of us at 6:45 pm on a Saturday because we knew it would be busy. It was packed. We waited 20 minutes despite having a reservation. We saw walk-ins get seated before us. I checked back with the hostess (after waiting 30 minutes) who looked for a table and then immediately sat us without assigning us a server. She told us that today was her third day. We sat and waited for another 20 minutes without anyone coming to check on us or give us water until one of my friends flagged someone down and then we finally got served. I ordered the chirashi sushi bowl and it was decent, nothing special for paying almost $30. I liked the variety (I had salmon, tuna, imitation crab, shrimp, and butterfish on a bed of rice sprinkled with furikake) however it tasted like sushi that I could buy from the grocery store. This place is decent, however the fish is definitely not the highest quality. It doesn't have the "melt in your mouth" experience that I've had at other sushi places. I also tasted my friend's bao bun and it left more to be desired. It was decent at best, a little salty and the bun-to-meat ratio was unbalanced. The bite was more bun than meat. Overall, I would not come back unless I know that the service improves. I hope that management trains their staff better to handle the dinnertime rush in a timely manner. I've been to 54 before for bar drinks, but I had to try the sushi. I am a huge sushi lover, but found that their menu was quite small. The service was slow, despite not having too many customers. We ordered 2 Moscows, my go-to, and it was extremely watered down. Not only that, they brought only one first, and took forever to bring over the next one. We also ordered the 2 Vegas bombs, and again, the bar was slow. We had finished eating before the shots came out. When we got the bill, we were charged an additional fee for our Moscows, and when we asked the waitress why, she said it was because they had to add vodka into the drink. I am unsure if the bartenders know, the proper way to make a Moscow is to add ginger beer + Vodka, and lime... so to be charged an additional amount for added Vodka was BEYOND ME! Not to mention, it was completely water downed, so WHERE WAS THE VODKA that I had to pay extra for?! The sushi was ok, but it was filling. This was an amazing restaurant. The atmosphere was bright and vibrant. Now I have to say the dragonfruit mojito was out of this world!! The combination of essence of dragonfruit with the mint and lime was absolutely a must have. If I could I would drink eleven of them. For an appetizer we had the poke nachos and they did not disappoint. The nacho chips were made out of friend wonton. The sauce with the spicy mayo complimented the piece of avocados and tuna perfectly. The chicken bento had fantastic variety of tasty goodies. The box composed of your choice of fried and steam dumplings (i picked fried of course), veggie salad with ginger dressing, six pieces of sushi, and chicken with a thick sweet sauce. I really really wanted to love this place. This strip of restaurants at Springfield Town Center has been a go-to for my friends and I for plenty of local celebration dinners. I was glad to see an Asian (fusion) restaurant get added to the mix and with the great reviews and an interesting menu, I actually chose this place to have my birthday dinner. Keep in mind this is a Wednesday night and the place never looked full. First, wall art is gorgeous and this place has such a nice atmosphere. It's a mall restaurant so you'll see a mix of people dressed up for dinner and some people coming from the gym a few doors down to grab a quick bite. They have an outdoor area with fire pits and nice patio seating that lead to the bar. That's where the good ends. For the sake of constructive criticism and just really wanting this place to make it, here's the feedback. My friend made the reservation for our group of 10 online which was convenient. We ended up with one extra person than on the reservation. The tables are the types that can be pushed together, and we're told at the front they can't add another person to our group. That 11th last person ended up showing up anyways and the waitress pulled up a chair for one more person. ***The tables around us stayed empty throughout our whole dinner.*** Definitely was opportunity to give us a bit more space by pulling up another table. I don't know why the hostess had to make it seem like they were expecting the place to be packed and could not accommodate 1 extra person. Drinks were all ordered at once. We're a large group ready to celebrate, but the drinks took a long time and were served to our table very sporadically with long waits in between. Some didn't show up until after reminding our waitress twice. This made it hard to keep the drinks flowing and we didn't order more rounds as a group. Inconsistency in drinks. A few of us ordered the same drinks, served in different sized cups and totally different levels of flavor. Sushi looked amazing, they really took the effort to make the sushi platter a show stopper with a fire feature. One of the waiters told us all the fish is flown in from Japan. I don't know if I believe that tbh, but if that's the case, id expect those sushi prices to be higher. Shaky beef portion was so laughable for the price. I totally get it, this isn't a traditional vietnamese restaurant. However there was nothing non traditional about this dish outside of the plating. At most places, this dish is served where over half your plate would be filled with meat for a third less money. Either sell a traditional portion for more money (which is what we was expecting) or give a smaller portion for a standard plate price. Don't upcharge AND give such a small portion. Gucci Gang Wings - I was excited cause I love gochujang which is what these were supposed to be flavored with. Gochujang has a strong soy based flavor but the wings came out dry and lacking flavor. Fried rice balls were interesting and I actually enjoyed the combination of the bisque with the crispy coated rice. Service was horrible. Our waitress was friendly, but clearly not trained. There was no organization to how orders were being taken or delivered. Typically there is a mental or written down seating arrangement so food can be rung up on a ticket delivered to the correct person. If that doesn't work, then the waitress should direct runners to get the food to the right guest. Instead there was alot of plates landing in front of the wrong people and with noone explaining what they were being served, we had to play the guessing game and eventually figure out on our own where everything should go. We had two extra spring rolls dishes come out to our table and they were sitting for quite some time while.we tried to figure out whos food was whos. When we alerted the waitress, she took them back including one that someone had already started working on. Just a weird thing to do as it made us wonder if it was going to end up at another table after being touched. I will say I was thankful they accommodated my friend who has asked that they surprise me with a birthday cake and cupcakes. We has asked for split checks at the beginning and the waitress said it was no problem. It was a problem. It was a very long process to pay all our bills which just added to the not so great experience here. I was excited to see a spot like this open up giving us a trendy asian fusion spot, but this experience was disappointing. I've been here twice and both times were great! The restaurant is located on the outside of Springfield Mall (between Chuy's and Maggie McFlys). I've eaten in the patio area and at the bar. The restaurant is pretty spacious and very clean. For reference, this used to be Zinn Burger. The menu is pretty extensive so you won't have a problem finding the right sushi dish. They also have a bunch of options for non sushi dishes. They have the cutest presentation of their dishes. A must have is the rocket shrimp rolls! They are so good! I also recommend the fried rice and the shrimp and crab tempura rolls. The service was quick and friendly! Random tidbits of info: If you haven't been to this area, there is a free parking lot at the mall. It can get busy at peak times, but there should be no problem finding a spot. That was good for us, as we were concerned about getting a table with our party size of 8. We were greeted and seated promptly, however, it took a while for a server to come to our table. We ordered appetizers, and had to waive the waiter over again to take our entrée orders. It appeared they were short-staffed as this was the theme throughout the evening. Despite the delays, everyone was pleasant, and very helpful. The food was good, and we had an overall pleasant time. There was one disruption during our meal, where a patron appeared to have consumed too much liquor at the bar. Someone, who appeared to be the manager, had to get rather loud with him and escorted him out of the restaurant. That was unfortunate, I imagine something outside of their control. However, he did try to calm the situation by walking around to all the guests to apologize. He even comped a couple of our appetizers for the inconvenience. read more

The food was really good and the waiters were nice. They made it feel like we were is Japan.

The host was friendly and welcoming. We didn't have to wait to long. Customer service is good. Sometimes dry, but only in a few incidents. The FOOD: I find their dishes to be enjoyable. I love the variety. Their spring rolls are very good! Their Pad Thai is a little more drenched in sauce than I expected, but still has good flavor!! You can have wine, beer, or a cocktail or two while you have dinner. It's definitely a great place for a nice comfortable date or spending times with a group of friends. I've come back. Decent sushi-ish place in a mall. Just flew in from Los Angeles on the evening of the Super Bowl. The first 2 restaurants we went to closed early (3 hours early - is it the rain?). Got to 54 Restaurant, it was a bit slow, but then so was the service. First sushi-ish place I've been to without chopsticks (sushi-ish because of the Korean, Chinese menu blends). So, Super Bowl Sunday, we had the bulgogi waffle fries, poke nachos, Korean Fried chicken. All very carb- forward, possibly to hide the small protein portions. The chicken was too salty and breaded - we didn't finish them. The poke was just raw tuna, and wasn't bad, just older, a bit dried out - and it wasn't really poke, which is marinated in soy sauce, onions, etc. The sauces were great as were the textures of the poke nacho chips and waffle fries. Kind of gut bombs, but, duh, that's kind of what we ordered. Tried 1 sushi specialty roll. The rice didn't taste fresh: sort of like grocery store sushi - A little dehydrated. And grainy. Finally, my hot sake tasted a bit watered down - or it was old too, not sure which. Ultimately, we were thankful they were open. Our first time in DC, it felt surreal that everywhere was closed (in Los Angeles everywhere seems to stay open on Sunday). The restaurant is bright and fun. The serving staff was friendly. We were excited to see this new addition to the Springfield Mall restaurant options. 54 Restaurant took over the Zin Burger spot right next to Maggie McFlys. The first time we noticed it was on a Saturday night and they were jammed pack. We waited for a weekday to go back and give it a try. This place has the potential to be my go to spot for all occasions, date night, girls night, solo afternoon, Sunday brunch...that's just how versatile it is as far as it's vibe and food selection. We ended up going on a Thursday evening and then went back on Sunday with one of our friends. I'll say...the experiences on those days were extremely different. Thursday...very few had masks on...(hostess, wait staff, bar tenders, managers, kitchen staff). I understand CDC guidelines, but even so, most restaurants are still taking it slow with removing masks (for those vaccinated) all together. Aside from that and the fact that the staff seemed a bit all over the place...we were pleased. Music was a huge win!! great vibes. My food highlights... -Must order the rocket shrimp rolls. Comes with 4, good to split with 2 or you could easily eat them all by yourself. Lol. The basil really makes these amazing. Gotta try em. -House Wings (bulgogi) yummy!! I am usually scared of double fried wings...but these were just right. Still good bites of meat even though skin was heavy. The bulgogi was a nice balance of sweet with a little kick. -Crab fried rice- all I can say is...WHOA!!! My girlfriend ordered it and at first I was skeptical. However it was prob my favorite dish out of everything that we tried. Tons of crab meat, great flavored rice (no soy sauce needed) and it was a decent size portion. Had all the things you'd expect from a fried rice...carrots, peas, onion, eggs. The not so great... -Sea Bass- fell a little short for us. The fish itself lacked salt. The sauce that it comes in def helped, but still not enough for us to get excited about. We were actually going to get the whole fried rock fish, but we were told it was sold out but yet saw 2 of them come out of the kitchen while we were there. -The Shaky Beef was ok. Again- lacked a little flavor. The portion appears small, but it's actually a good amount. The meat was cooked perfectly, but the flavors weren't quite what I'm used to with shaky beef. Drinks- Give the Side Car a try!! Def give it a try. I'm sure we will get through another few items on our next visit. read more

The sushi is tasty and so is the drunken noodles and lo mein! Appetizers came out quickly as well as the sushi and entrees. Our waiter was attentive for the most part but we did have to wait a while to receive the check after our meal concluded. The dining area is spacious and the restroom is clean. Convenient spot to grab lunch if you have a little bit of time. Nothing takes it over the top. Atmosphere - The ambiance is nice. There is a really nice outdoor space when the weather, allows with couches and a heat lamp if necessary. Customer Service - The service was good. We got what we asked for in a timely fashion. My co-worker had asked for sauce to go with her lunch; and they came out before the food, which was good. Food - I was pleasantly surprised by my bento box. I will get then again if I go back. Overall, not much stood out here so, there's not much to say. I would go back for lunch, but not sure if I'd give them a try for dinner. Maybe giving them a try with happy hour would give me a little more confidence for the dinner service. read more

Midweek date night we choose to finally try out this sushi spot. Located connected to Springfield Mall, there is ample parking. We had tons of options to choose from, who was great. Our food also came out pretty quick. The waiter did however forget the poke salad and we didn't get it till we were halfway done. The poke nachos were great, but the jalapeños used had no flavor which was disappointing. The shrimp shumai was delicious, but I should have gotten then steamed. Out of all the rolls I would have to say the hot mama roll was the best, not as spicy as I wanted it. My husband loved his poke salad. We finished off with the cheesecake, I did not like all the sprinkles and whip cream on it, and the taste was what I was expecting. The two drinks were really good, I would say the mango martini was the better pick. Overall, great place to enjoy some sushi. read more
