So you can take my money but you treat me like I don't belong in your restaurant because I'm Black? She rang up my order and when I held out my hand she put my card down on the counter. I immediately said, "I'm holding out my hand" and she knew exactly what that meant because she then put the card in my hand and abruptly stormed off. You paid me zero respect but then I saw you smile and genuflect to a white customer - thanking them for coming in. When she brought my food over she threw my takeout order down on the table, didn't make eye contact and immediately walked away. I will NEVER patronize this business again. But you don't care about repeat business from my community - that's clear. Do better. At a minimum - treat other human beings with a modicum of the respect and dignity you are chasing white people to get.

I thought the rice quality and the texture of the rolls were nice. They were not overpacked and dense which made them pleasant to eat. The staff is super nice and very attentive. Service was friendly and completely on point. You gotta love a restaurant when the moment you've drained your ice water, your server is immediately there with a refill. Taiko has a huge menu, pretty much catering to anything you might hanker. I noticed that in addition to traditional Japanese fare, there were Chinese and Thai dishes as well. For starters we went with the shumai, miso soup and harumaki. The shumai was very good, though I'm a little less certain about the vinegary dipping sauce that came with the shumai. The miso soup was good and we liked the finely diced tofu in it. Harumaki are crispy spring rolls, and we liked these too. We also ordered an eel roll. It had been broiled and with the sauce on it was very tasty. JP's entrée was the Pork Katsu bento box. The pork katsu was excellent and so were the California rolls that came with the box. The bento box also came with miso soup and a side salad. My entrée was the Beef Udon. Very attractively presented, it had a smoky flavor and was packed with beef along with bits of asparagus and zucchini. It was pretty good. We were pleasantly surprised at the end of our meal to receive complementary scoops of a delicious vanilla ice cream. Considering the excellent service, big menu and good food, I'm going with five stars.

The atmosphere: The restaurant is spacious, and I like it when the outdoor area is open since it has a shaded setup and a fire pit. Otherwise, there's still plenty of indoor seating. The food: We started with the Korean Fried Chicken in the soy garlic flavor, which was probably my favorite part of the meal. It came out hot and crispy. We also ordered two rolls, the Double Toro Roll and the Double Salmon Roll. Both were drenched in a Japanese dressing or soy-based sauce, which caused them to fall apart almost immediately after picking them up. The flavor was overly sour and salty, making it hard to taste the freshness of the fish. Overall, the balance of flavors felt completely off. We also tried the Spicy Crunchy Tuna Bites, and to our surprise, the only crunchy element was a small part of the outer rice shell. Everything else was chewy and overloaded with mayo, so it wasn't a favorite for us. The service: The service was a bit touch-and-go throughout the meal.

There is something deeply satisfying about being able to order whatever you fancy without feeling like every additional roll requires a minor financial consultation. Better still, the quality is actually very good, which is where many all-you-can-eat arrangements lose the plot. Here, the fish is fresh, the options are plentiful, and the whole experience feels properly worth it. This is absolutely a place to arrive hungry and leave very happy indeed. As I was taking a walk I happened to pass by Yamazato Sushi and Spice and said why not. BTW, I LOVE sushi and can be a harsh critic. I started with an order of shumai (6 petite pieces) and knew the rest of my meal would be excellent. It was flavorful, sumptuous with just the right amount of crisp and softness. One of the things I always struggle with at a sushi restaurant is portion size. Mostly on the "too small" size but sometimes on the "too big" In this case it was borderline perfect and bordering on the larger piece. Legit 2-bite nigiri, with the rolls being cut for a mouthful, but not quite embarrassing. As per my usual I enjoyed an ebi, hamachi and unagi on the nigiri side and my roll was the Volcano. Yum, Yum, Yum and YUMMM! All good, all fresh, all nicely prepared. Washed it all down with an unfiltered cold saki and was completely content and satisfied. The ambience was open and inviting and the restaurant was mostly full with more people arriving (always a good sign). The service was friendly, efficient and helpful, so a big shoutout to Min. And a BIG thank you to Steve, the owner, who was gracious enough to spend some time with me and chat before I departed. Looking forward to returning the next time I make my way back to the DC area. Alexandria, I believe. Cheers, JimG

Since the reservation form asked if we were celebrating anything, I hoped we would be placed in a special area or at least somewhere more intimate. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were led up a staircase, which offered a cool view of the environment, but ended up at a small table in a small high traffic area. Initially, we thought it was a unique experience because of the restaurant's interior design, but we soon realized it was going to be uncomfortable...because heat rises and we were stuck upstairs with so many other people who seemed just as warm as us. It was excessively hot, and I found myself fanning myself with one of the menus at the table. While our server was probably trying his best, the service left much to be desired. We were eager to leave as soon as we arrived. After ordering and enjoying what we could of our meals, which were quite good, we just wanted to leave. However, our server was absent for a long time, leaving us stuck at the table. Instead of being a cute little anniversary dinner, it just turned out to be a disappointing experience at a new restaurant

Eggs & Sushi is one of those hideouts and if you're not careful, might end up eating 7k calories before you leave. You'll only know this place exists if you live or work in the Lorton area where Eggs & Sushi stands firm. If not for Google Maps, you may drive on by without a thought. I stopped because their simple sign but just some quirky in a strange way caught my eye and it's in the middle of a warehouse street where you would not expect food places to be. Surprisingly, there are always little cafes in these kind of places that feed the immediate workers there. They are sometimes the hidden gems nobody will hear about unless you work in that area. This is one of them. Walking in, it feels like a small diner, yellow walls, lots of menu above the grill area displayed on multiple screens, properly lit dining area. They take orders at the end and at a kiosk as well. Window seats, couple of tables, and some bar seats also. Seems simple enough but this place is the ultimate trap for the hungry. Be careful! When you look up, you realize they have a vast menu and varied in the most fantastic way. You have your generic American style food, eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, sandwiches, coffee, smoothie, an all day breakfast menu. Then you keep walking around to look at the menu, you see sushi, rolls, poke bowls, ramen, some dons, etc. You might think, hmm, they might be overloaded on the menu. Wrong! They make fantastic sandwiches! Smaller not overpriced ramen but with lots of oomph flavor! These guys bring the umami and drip it like masters. The dons hit, the ramen hits, the sandwiches hit, and my all time favorite breakfast item, the elegantly simple French toast hits. They are serving hits here and only a few know about it. Service was adequate from their high school kid waiters. The owners at the grill are very friendly if you get a chance to interact with them. Just a very chill ambience. It's diner that makes me want to move to Lorton. If you find yourself here one day, be careful. The menu makes you want to try everything. I haven't touch everything yet so I'm definitely coming back to try more. I just hope all these reviews won't mean I can't find my cozy window seat in the future.
