What could you improve? Stop being racist! On a whim I walked into this spot and I wish I'd read all of the reviews first. Kim H was so rude and disgusting to me today. So you can take my money but you treat me like I don't belong in your restaurant because I'm Black? She rang up my order and when I held out my hand she put my card down on the counter. I immediately said, "I'm holding out my hand" and she knew exactly what that meant because she then put the card in my hand and abruptly stormed off. You paid me zero respect but then I saw you smile and genuflect to a white customer - thanking them for coming in. When she brought my food over she threw my takeout order down on the table, didn't make eye contact and immediately walked away. I will NEVER patronize this business again. But you don't care about repeat business from my community - that's clear. Do better. At a minimum - treat other human beings with a modicum of the respect and dignity you are chasing white people to get. read more

I moved here from California looking for a decent sushi place and it took me seven months of some really mediocre sushi to find this place. When you walk in it throws you off a little bit because there's only about 12 to 15 seats in the whole restaurant and it's not the most charming place, but they put out some really good quality sushi at a very reasonable price. I've been ordering sushi to go almost twice a week now which says a lot. It's got fast service and it's usually only one person that's working the cash register and doing the service and they're still able to keep up reasonably well. read more

First off it took me forever to figure out that this place was opened...because the open sign is so tiny and not let properly. It wasn't until I walked up to the door and actually looked in I saw the staff and a few other people go inside. Now as many of these places on a strip mall situation it is a tiny space. They definitely made due with the space they had work for them. Nobody will greet up and I learned that the hard way. Because I didn't know how the system worked I just grabbed the form, sat down, marked what I wanted and handed it to the only women that seemed to work there. She asked me was it to go. I was like no...so she then proceeded to take me to a sitting area near the back and gave me a menu. Because I was so hungry and wanted a little bit of everything I opted to finally try the soft shell crab appetizer which was not good at all unfortunately. Tasted really burnt and was very small. I then got the plum wine...very sweet like I remember, tuna roll, Philly roll, spic yellow with cream cheese, and fatty tuna belly. All rolls tasted amazing and fresh so that was a plus for me! This place is the best, I come here every time i'm in the area! Cute little inside the restaurant, yummy miso soup and delicious specialty rolls. There's enough variety in the rolls that I've come here 3 times in one week, eaten something different every time and loved it all. The food's absolutely delicious, the Nigiri is fresh and it melts in your mouth! You get a bowl of miso soup and edamame on the side before you order anything off the menu. Honestly, I appreciate a warm cup of miso and some veggies before I indulge myself. The waiters there are kind and patient with customers! The place is nicely decorated with Japanese dishes on the walls, the lady's bathroom is decorated so cutely!! (I'm a girl don't attack me pls.) Takeout was very quick and smooth! Online ordering was cumbersome so just ordered onsite. Spicy Sushi Combo roll was very good and nice price. Also provided with miso and chopsticks. If "suburban sushi" is a coined term or one that I just came up with , Kana Sushi would be the archetype from which all subsequent iterations should follow. I would define a suburban sushi joint as one with clean modern decor, a wide array of cooked items including bento boxes, tempura, and stir fried options for the non adventurous eater, rolls with crazy names for folks that can only handle raw fish if it's a sidenote amongst other bold flavors, and some authentic specials like uni or hamachi collar for those with more sophisticated palates. Therein lies the conundrum for high quality fish at a suburban sushi joint: what's the motivation for using the best fish if most of it will be used in mixed rolls and if there is limited turnover on orders on the premium stuff? Case in point I have never been blown away by their sushi/sashimi entrees but their bento boxes and tempura have been much more satisfying (albeit for one mishap where a tempura banana snuck into my veggie tempura on one occasion and it took me a few minutes to wrap my brain around the unexpected flavor surprise since I was trying to figure out the mystery veggie. Consistent enough for classic westernized fare and basic sushi/sashimi that won't raise any concerns about getting sick and wacky rolls that are fun if you don't mind crunchy bits, fresh fruit, or fried seafood in your roll (I still have a hard stop and will not hesitate to self administer harakiri before eating a roll with cream cheese), with a nice enough ambience to for a date with a Japanese food novice or those who say they love sushi but can't go beyond rainbow/caterpillar/dragon rolls. read more

Not as good as when they first opened. Flavor combinations of certain sushi sounded amazing at first, but when eating them, the flavor felt a bit off. Maybe some ingredients were substituted for a more cheaper flavor profile. It was not necessarily horrible; definitely edible, but for the price I paid per specialty rolls, I felt like it should of been cheaper. Cheaper taste should equate to cheaper price. This is still a great place for sushi if you are new to sushi and Japanese cuisine. This is my favorite place when I'm craving sushi rolls. The Tokyo Garden Roll (spicy salmon, avocado, tempura flakes, seared white tuna & lemon mayo) is to die for!! I routinely come here specifically for that roll, edamame & beer. They also have a fantastic iced green tea that is made fresh in house. Excellent & friendly service!! We really love sushi and wanted to try this place. We arrived at 8:30 and on the door there was a sign requiring customers to wear a mask when they come inside which was nice! We asked if they had indoor dining and they told us they stop serving customers indoors. We ordered salmon, ama ebi, maguro, escolar, ikura, 2 shrimp tempura rolls, and a miso soup. When we were waiting for our food I noticed through the curtains of the kitchen that one of the staff members wasn't wearing a mask and cashiers weren't wearing gloves nor were they cleaning their hands between transactions. The salmon and the white and regular tuna were very buttery and smooth, the fried shrimp head and steamed shrimp were surprisingly delicious despite their looks, and the roe was amazing. I am a little disappointed with the shrimp tempura because I usually like for them to be very simple and these were filled with imitation crab meat, avocado, and a sweet sauce. Overall, pretty good sushi! I just wish they took more safety precautions by requiring all staff to wear their masks and for cashiers to disinfect after every customer. read more

Fresh fish and friendly service! We started with miso soup, which was perfectly heavy on the miso. We also got the house salad and seaweed salad, both were also fresh and tasty. Lots of ginger dressing on the house salad, which I like! The chirashi and spicy chirashi are a lot bigger than they look in pics and everything in them is fresh and delicious. The spicy chirashi comes with a side of gojujang that you mix in to make it spicy, along with flying fish roe and more on top of lettuce. A flavor packed experience I will order next time! The salmon skin roll is packed with crispy salmon skin and cucumber. Maybe not the place for a first date, as it's a more relaxed, hole in the wall but it's pleasant and clean. We went on Wednesday evening at 6:45 and it was packed. The sushi chefs were very nice and our waitress was handling the entire restaurant on her own, yet was efficient and kept a friendly attitude. I have been looking for my Udon fix for a while and now I have it! Well, okay, I'm still looking around at another Japenese restaurant in the area, but this one did a great job convincing me that they're the Udon shop to go to. Among other things. The hours might be the only reason I am sort of willing to look at other restaurants for the time being. But the service was good, the fact you get a free hot green tea with a yelp check-in was certainly a plus, and well, nice portion sizes. For lunch I tried the Sashimi and the Kana Udon. Both were really fresh in tasting and had great portion sizes. The noodles for the udon were perfect, as was the fact they gave me two pieces of shrimp tempura. In it also was a piece of fish, some chicken, and a heckuva lot of onion. That for me was a bit of a turnoff, but as mentioned, not enough to ruin the whole thing. The Sashimi was good too. Really fresh tasting fresh. Also the first side salad was fresh as the peanut oil was not too runny. Overall, I'd come back here and try some sushi. read more

I had a hard time locating the entrance at first. You have to enter from the back side where all the parking is. From the street, it appears that this restaurant may be closed or coming soon but they are definitely open :) They don't have much space inside for dining in but there is some room. Their service isn't the best, their waitress seemed very pushy and a bit rude. Their food was okay, I can't really brag much about it and they only give out canned soda which is annoying at any restaurant in my opinion. The worst part about the experience was the fact that they charged me for a Dinner Box and stated that you can't get a lunch box because it's a holiday. WHAT? That made no sense to me and I was ready to walk out just for the ridiculousness of that one particular rule but I was starving and decided to stay. The chicken was a little rubberish and I didn't enjoy the pot sticks much however, everything else was pretty good. I probably won't be stopping in here again but it was fun to try out. read more
