Never again. I've owned many dogs. Poodles, Maltese, mixed shedding breeds and never ever did I have a dog come home bloody and also without any concern from the groomer or staff. When I asked to speak w the groomer she would t come out. When I called they told me it was normal and it happens. At the desk I said oh gosh what happened and she said oh idk that happens if they wiggle. My dog is never a problem at the vet or the groomer. I had to go straight to the vet from the groomer. He had to go on antibiotics and have wound care. I called asking them to cover the bill of about 200 and they refused to speak with me or work with me. After that I decided never again and I told and showed the community what they did. This was a while ago but as I was searching for a groomer today I came upon this one and decided it deserved a review. This is to protect all the voiceless pups out there and to alert owners that if you love your dog don't go here. Hurting a dog accidentally and owning it and apologizing is one thing. Being nasty and difficult and saying this is normal is not ok. A simple apology and pleasant attitude fits a long way. read more

This place use to be REALLY good. My dog didn't mind going here. My last few appointments I would drop my dog off then get a call HOURS later that the groomer (the owner) called out . I knew I was never going back when the staff was also bad mouthing the groomer. Apparently this happens a lot there. I recommended a friend to this place and her dog was shaved down to the skin. The owner responded "shit happens" . No, sorry. If you love your dog do not go here. You've been warned. read more

We have been using 53 & Mane for over a year for our dog, Moby's, grooming. He is a big dog and is nervous when we leave him. We schedule his appointments in days when either I or my spouse can take a day off work. Today Moby had an appointment at 12:15. I dropped him off on time, left him with the ladies up front. An hour later, I get a call that the person that was supposed to groom Moby didn't show up so we would need to come pick him up. We count on service providers to be reliable and when you can't rely on appointments it's time to find a new groomer. There was not even "we're sorry" when I came to pick him up, the lady at the front register merely said "he whines the whole time you are gone". read more

So a few weeks ago my friend took her pets here.53 & Mane Pet Spa to get groomed to only get the phone call everyone regrets. "To meet the vet, your pets are popped out"! This facility is a cage free environment. Meaning that all dogs big and small mingle together. So her pet has to undergo immediate emergency surgery. The pet is currently ok and we're waiting for the outcome to see if she will ever be able to use her eye again. So for all of you that reas this post. Beware because this can happen to one of your fur babies. read more

What a wonderful experience we had with Michelle and her staff to day. We have a senior dog who has bad knees, is losing his eyesight and other age related issues and Michelles staff was amazing. My dog has been here 3 times. His cut always seems to be good. He is a nervous-nelly every place we take him, including here. I'm just amazed at how unfriendly the staff is at 53 & Main, from the person who checks you in to the people doing the grooming. Having a nervous dog, which I stated to them, and then leaving him with such unfriendly people is giving me reason to question going back. Do you they have any sense of giving their customers piece of mind regarding leaving their dog with them?? It's literally like no one can greet you (and it's a small place). read more

Horrible experience. Do NOT bring your dog here. Had an appointment time and dog was kept for 5 hours and nothing was done. Called several times during that time period to check on completion time, even offered to pick him up and reschedule. 5 hours later, I was extremely worried and decided to just go get my dog. Found out nothing at all had been done except a bath. My dog had just been kept in a small room with other dogs. Now my dog is home with matted hair and no cut. Awful experience. This pet spa is a joke! The owner clearly doesn't care about the business, clients or staff. I recently had an appointment with my small dog and on the phone everything sounded wonderful. However, upon entering the establishment I found it to be hectic, filthy and smelling of urine and mold. Against my better judgement I left my baby in their hands, only to get a phone call 4 1/2 hours later (after being told it would only be 2 hours) that the groomer never showed up?!!! What the what?! I got a sorry excuse as to why this happened and that it happens often? (Again, what the what?!) and they explained that my dog had only received a bath and to come pick him up. When I did so I was shocked to see him running around with numerous other dogs some much bigger than him. He's very friendly with dogs but for goodness sakes someone could get hurt. I was appalled already and then when I asked to speak with the owner to voice my concerns I was told that she never showed and was supposed to be the one to groom my dog, she had a "family emergency." I'm pretty sympathetic and understanding so I didn't think too much into it, even though I was very much upset and so was my pupper. Out of curiosity I looked up reviews on this pet spa and found that I am not the only one to have gone through this. Some worse than my experience. This is disgusting. Apparently this happens all the time and the poor staff is left to deal with the brunt of it when the owner is nowhere to be found. I even called numerous times to speak to her and left messages with no response. I took it upon myself this week to go over in person to try and track down the owner and voice my concerns to find out the business has been closed!!! Thank the lord. I hope their doors never open again. The neglect and unprofessionalism the owner clearly shows reflects poorly on this business and if it does reopen I will be reporting it to the BBB and whomever else will listen. Terrible experience. Made a reservation for my large sweet dog looking for a new place. He's big, but loves every person he's ever met. I was clear, however, that he doesn't love all dogs, and can't just be put with them. They assured me that they keep them separate. When I dropped him he was immediately nose to nose w a small dog behind the gate. He was fine, but sooooo careless and negligent. They also didn't seem to know what I booked. I spent 20 mins on the phone with you how the hell do you not know who is coming in and what they are having done? Basic business sense especially the supposed first appt of the day!! The "owner" seemed ok when I called and seemed nice and somewhat experienced. When I got there, seemed like nothing but kids with absolutely no clue what they r doing or even basic dog handling knowledge. So dangerous. How do you have a grooming operation being run by kids who aren't trained to handle dogs? He was supposed to be there for 2 hrs and it was more than 4 and I was really worried. When we picked him up it was a hot mess there. Dirty, dogs everywhere (way too many, totally unprofessional) and they hadn't cut his nails, couldn't finish drying him, didn't brush his teeth and hadn't done the private area trim (he's was just there for a bath plus those few extra items!) Where was he for 4 hours? They said he didn't like the turbo hand dryer on his face so he had to be put in a cage (which I specifically said NOT to do when I booked it). Um, who would like that? What animal or human? It should never be pointed at his face/eyes? Dry his body for Pete's sake. What kind of special person needs to be told that? So you caged him with a hot dryer pointed at him? At his face?? Fantastic. He was a nervous wreck when I picked him up. Complete hot mess there and would NEVER go back or recommend to ANYONE. Super disappointed. Very unprofessional. Don't take dogs you can't handle and if you can't handle, call the owner, admit it, and don't touch them. read more

So happy that 53 & Mane opened in Denville! Michelle is compassionate, patient, caring and so loving towards my 3 year old, Shih Tzu - Charlie. Charlie loves going to 53 & Mane and looks very dapper after his grooming. Michelle is experienced, very detailed and pays close attention to a dogs needs.
