Due to their busy day, agreed to return Tuesday for pricing/terms when me and the mechanic could speak more about terms. Tuesday: Kim (likely the owner) said the mechanic was at lunch (30+ mins). I left my bike; she promised he'd call upon returning. She called 30 minutes later but wouldn't connect us--just offered another callback. He never called. Wednesday: Another mechanic confirmed a $200 estimate but wouldn't commit to exact cost. Promised to call before repairs. No call came. Next day: Received voicemail saying bike was ready. Upon arrival, Kim rushed to retrieve it from the back. When I requested an itemized invoice before paying, she said "It will print out after you pay." After transaction: Bill was nearly $90 over estimate. They replaced brake pads without asking (they were fine), charged for a "SEVERE" alignment without permission or notification, and added $20 for "shop supplies and disposal." When challenged, Kim claimed the mechanic told me the cost and asked if he called (he didn't). She brought the mechanic over--he admitted fixing the spoke but denied charging for it. She almost threw the receipt back, saying "there you go." He also admitted that he had promised to call me before proceeding and didn't. The shop gave me a plastic bag with service trash, but notably the removed "bad" brake pads were missing from it.

I just bought a new track bike after my beloved custom build I've been riding for 13 years got stolen and I needed to get the wheels trued. I tried going to Bike Alley first but they said they couldnt help me. I'd gone there twice before and they never seemed like they cared or knew much about bikes, it's just a job for them. So I tried the next closest place, Adrenaline. And the difference was night and day. Tim was extremely knowledgable and accommodating. A true bike junky like myself. We geeked out for 30 minutes both when I dropped off the wheels and picked them up. And he went above and beyond in the job. He charged me only for a basic true, but really went to town, taking off the wheels and tires, and spending extra time to make them as good as he could. Also for some reason one of the tubes popped after he put it back on but he replaced it for free without even mentioning it until I brought up the different looking stem. He also fixed my seat post/position at no extra charge. I will say, i am extremely surprised and confused to see the negative reviews, particularly the claims of "racism". As a white guy maybe im just oblivious, but I think a more likely explanation for any feeling of "judgement" or "discrimination" stems from the fact that this is a high end bike shop built by serious bike enthusiasts for serious bike enthusiasts. I guess it's possible that customers with more casual or budget friendly needs, irrespective of their race or social class, might not excite and activate the staff in the same way. I'm of course only speculating, but will say that AS serious bike enthusiast of high end bikes: the level of service, attention, and passion for bikes of Tim and the team is unparalleled in my 15 years of riding. I wrote back that I don't drive unless I have to (medical), have never ridden an e-bike so would be transporting it home to learn to ride it, and so asked him to store it until the part was in and it was a full build. Scott accommodated, and I got a fully built PERFECT bike for me yesterday. Scott helped me load it into my SUV (a tight fit, so grateful for his help) and I shook his hand.
