Tao did not return my calls and emails. I missed many important milestone appts and submission deadlines due to his irresponsibility and carelessness. He claims he was "sick" for months on end. Why doesn't he have somebody to cover for him while he's "sick" - scam and complete slob!! I fired him as my agent. Do not hire Tao, Jennifer, Ben or anyone affiliated with this brokerage. After Tao was fired, I worked with Jen and she started twisting her words and got caught in her own lies. Petty and filthy. When I spoke to Jennifer about my property, she made it sounds as she was innocent and complexly impartial. She emphasized she wanted to do what was best for the customer and she had no interest in making money for the brokerage. Later, I find out she ripped me off because she takes a lion share of the brokerage earnings - as her grandfather started/owned the business. Things started to make sense now. Also, they couldn't do simple commission % math. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but with all the sneaky and sly things Jennifer and Tao did, it was done. Jennifer was hoping to not get caught and really should be reported to the board and fined/have license revoked for intestinally ripping off customers. Brokerages calculate commission for a living -- that's their livelihood Furthermore, Tao, Jennifer, and Ben will not put anything in writing, mail, email, etc. because they know they will get caught, and they change their story constantly - they did with me for almost a year. Unprofessional and nauseating the lack of intelligence this firm has. Just look at the other reviews of texts sent to clients. I've had so many good experiences with brokerages and realtors in Honolulu, stay clear of this place. I know many people that have been deceived and used by this brokerage.

Our fridge broke and the repair guy that came by said that even if he fixes it, it won't last very long at all and would be better just to replace it. Did Demetria replace it? Nope! She sure didn't!! Sure enough it broke a month later a week before Thanksgiving! She had the nerve to try and have us wait till after Thanksgiving to replace it and tried to offer us a beach cooler instead. Are you serious? What a joke! Especially after having to replace hundreds of dollars worth of spoiled food. Oh yeah, the landscapers stopped coming by as well because she only paid them $150 a month for a MASSIVE yard front and back! This is just a tip of the iceberg. Sean is a licensed property manager, a trained carpenter, and a consummate property professional you can rely on and trust. This is what this real estate agent told me about Sean Barnes when I asked for her recommendation, and this is what I've directly experienced in having Sean manage my property over the last several years. To begin, Sean manages a finite number of properties so that he can devote his time and attention to them (this is in contrast to firms and managers on Oahu who hold vast portfolios and will often regard your property like a number, or a side-hustle or ancillary part of a larger business). Sean will care for your property like it's his own, that is to say, with diligence and attention to detail and, if it's a rental, like the personal investment it is to its owners. In this respect, Sean will ensure your property is maintained in top condition and only occupied by highly trusted tenants. On the business end, he seamlessly facilitates all the signing and transaction processes via an online portal that allows users full transparency and oversight. While the portal leaves no questions, Sean is a great communicator and will reach out to you as much or as little as you like about your property, and always as needed. Let me not gloss over Sean's carpentry background as this is a rare skillset among property managers that pays huge dividends in terms of upkeep and peace of mind. In the almost ten years I've had a footing in Hawaii I've only met two property managers who also have carpentry training, and Sean is one of them. When repairs pop up, as they always will inside rentals (which for the most part are not covered by HOAs), Sean is able to diagnose the problem on the spot and ninety-nine percent of the time will conduct the repair himself same-day without needing to enlist outside help. This aspect of Sean's personal management toolkit can not be underscored enough. And if the repairs are outside of Sean's scope, he coordinates the entirety of the job, from contacting the initial contractor to perform the work to supervising the work to ensuring the work is done correctly. From soup to nuts, Sean sets the standard. Being in the Navy and on the move for over ten years now, I need someone local in Hawaii whom I can trust. Bottom line: I never worry about my property because Sean Barnes is taking care of it. Erin K. McNamara Poha Kea Point, Kaneohe

Knowing this I could have stayed at property but since we were already moved out there was nothing I could do but accept the outcome. Two stars because Clinton (I think) was very helpful and communicative.

DO NOT RENT FROM SC REALTY OR FRANCES LAU!!!…read more I rented a unit at 1519 Thurston Avenue for two years, and my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. From the very first walkthrough, I suspected there was mold in the closets. I immediately brought it to the attention of the agent, Frances Lau, who insisted there was no mold present. Despite my concerns, on the initial inspection sheet, we noted a mold-like substance in both closets. As time went on, my family and I began experiencing health issues, and we spent thousands of dollars at doctors' offices and even took our dog to the vet, trying to figure out what was going wrong. We then experienced a massive leak in the apartment, which led to the ceiling being cut open and, to our shock, revealed large amounts of mold that had been hidden behind the drywall. Despite this alarming discovery, Frances Lau and SC Realty refused to take our concerns seriously. We requested that the unit be tested for mold multiple times (five times to be exact), but each time we were ignored. After no response, we paid out of pocket for a full mold inspection, and the results were horrifying--every single room tested positive for high levels of black mold. At this point, my family was already feeling the health effects of prolonged exposure to toxic mold. To protect our health, we made the decision to move out as soon as possible. However, even after we left, Frances continued to ignore our attempts to reach her. We had to escalate the issue to her boss at SC Realty, but we were still met with indifference. SC Realty then forced us to sign away any legal claims in exchange for allowing us to break the lease early without them keeping our security deposit, even though they had previously threatened to withhold it. It's clear to me that SC Realty is well aware they are renting out unsafe, uninhabitable units. To make matters worse, they raised the rent by $250 and began showing the unit to new potential tenants less than a month after we moved out. If you value the health and safety of your family, I urge you not to rent from SC Realty. This company knowingly rents out mold-infested units and will do everything in their power to avoid taking responsibility. Frances Lau, in particular, was the worst agent I've ever encountered. After speaking with other agents at SC Realty, I can confidently say I have nothing positive to say about this company. They are dishonest, negligent, and completely unconcerned with tenant safety. The sad reality is that the State of Hawaii does little to protect renters in situations like this, leaving companies like SC Realty to continue engaging in this behavior unchecked. I have documentation and test results that prove the apartment was infested with black mold. Please, do your due diligence and avoid this company at all costs.
