This was unfortunately the most disappointing salon experience I've ever had. The reception team was lovely, the ambiance is beautiful, and the stylists are kind and professional. However, the results were consistently not what I requested. I brought in an inspiration photo and clearly stated multiple times that I did not want any red tones. The result was noticeably red/orange and looked nothing like the photo. I called the salon, and they were courteous and offered to correct it. The manager was helpful and encouraged me to return to the same stylist so she could learn from the situation. Although I was uncomfortable with that, I agreed as long as there was guidance. At the redo appointment, I again showed the inspiration photo and reiterated my concerns. Unfortunately, I left with hair that was pinkish/reddish/yellow and extremely dry -- again, not aligned with what I requested. The manager did ask if I was happy with it, but with the stylist present, I felt uncomfortable speaking up and said very little. The situation felt awkward and difficult to address in the moment. While the redo was comped, I was charged approximately $150 for a root retouch. Within just a few days, my silver growth was already visible. At this point, I am over $500 into the experience and have left each appointment feeling embarrassed rather than confident. I've decided to move on and find another salon, but I was truly disappointed by how far the final results were from what was clearly communicated. read more

I got my first ever massage today as a gift from my husband. I chose those place because it was the closest to my home with good reviews that wouldn't make me deal with going into Cincinnati. Unfortunately for me, my massage had to be rescheduled twice due to masseuse being sick. Despite being told less than 24 hours before the massage... twice... the discount they gave me as an apology was only 10% (they charge you 50% if you cancel less than 24 hours ahead of your scheduled massage). I wasn't expecting a 50% discount or anything... but if would have been nicer if it was close to 20% since I had to rearrange childcare twice. The masseuse went over the basics with me at the start of the massage and I decided to sort of let her lead as I had no idea what I didn't like or what to expect. I'm not sure what's normal, but most of the massage was pretty good. I did think too much time was spent massaging my head, too much time fiddling with hot towels, and sometimes I couldn't tell what she was doing for short periods of time (since there was no massaging going on). The thing that I disliked the most was that the 90 minute massage seemed to be 90 minutes minus the six minutes she had spent going over some basic info at the start. Which again, not sure if that's normal but it seemed a bit odd to me to include that in the massage time. Overall, it felt nice but I also felt that some of the massage time was wasted on massaging places that didn't really need it like my arms. Not sure if I'll be back but at least I'll be able to give more direction if I do. read more

I have been coming here for years. But never again! I made an appt on line, on their website. I received several appt reminders and arrived 5 minutes early for my appt. After a $20 Uber ride, I was told that I had no appt. My bank, Capitol One just changed our debit card from Mastercard to Discover, and while I had access to my new card info, I had not received the new card yet, so I purchased a GC, on line for $150, to pay for my haircut. Not only did I have no appt, I was given no recourse before I took a $20 Uber home! Some woman, that did not give her name, said it was impossible to refund my money. I went straight to the courthouse to file in small claims court, they suggested that I first file a complaint with my bank...Ill keep you posted! Small fish in a small pond! I've never had a massage before. The reason I tried 502 Salon & Spa was because they offered 30 minute sessions, and I figured if I hated it, it wouldn't last too long. Most places offer 60 and 90 minute sessions (501 also has these options, but I love the shorter ones). I put in my notes when I booked online that it was my first massage and I was nervous it would be painful. When I arrived, the front desk attendant was very kind and took me upstairs to the spa. (Note - not sure how accessible this place is - I did not notice an elevator). My masseuse was Ashley, and she was incredible. She walked me through the process knowing I was apprehensive, explained any add ons, and made me feel at ease. She is so good at what she does, and I genuinely cannot wait to go back. read more

Only gave one star because zero stars is not an option. Federal law prohibits sale of any gift cards with expiration dates of less than FIVE years from date of purchase. Despite this, they attach a one-year expiration date to their gift cards. Due to this I had a large gift card that "expired" but should still have been valid/honored as it was less than 5 years old, but they refused to accept. Despite multiple communications with "guest specialists," and with manager Heather, they flat out refused to honor the gift card (as required by federal law) and offered no other options for resolution. They stopped responding to me, ignored an inquiry from the BBB, blocked me on all social media, and only finally addressed it when they were contacted by the KY Attorney General's Office & told that it was, in fact, federal law, and that they are required to either refund it or issue a new card. After 4 months of back-and-forth I finally was issued a refund, which I'm happy to use to pay for services elsewhere. As they've been in business for over 10 years, they should know the laws they need to abide by. They might employ great stylists & estheticians, but their unprofessional management and questionable business practices outweigh any of those benefits. I highly encourage anyone considering spending (lots of) their hard earned money on salon & spa services or gift cards to such services, to consider other local salons. read more

I've had a couple pedicures with Clara and today I had my haircut by Jensen. All of my experiences have been great. My first pedicure was a learning experience for me as I'd never had one and didn't quite know what to expect. Clara was patient, explained what was happening, and was very gentle. I went back and was more confident and therefore more able to relax and enjoy it even more. I had a bet with a coworker that I would not get my nails painted; it's been more than a month and I still have dark navy blue toe nails. Clara was all in on painting them and I suspect that even if I hadn't explained the bet she would have done it without judgment. I went to see Jensen today for a haircut. She's new to the salon but not new to the industry; she took time to listen to my concerns, explained her approach to my hair, and provided me with suggestions for what we should do today and for next time to get my desired result. She was friendly but not overly talkative which I appreciate. It was a natural conversation, not forced. I enjoyed this experience very much and look forward to seeing her again for another cut. I've been to her twice now and loved both times. Latest haircut for the summer I showed her a couple pictures and told her I wanted to live my curly puffball dreams and this is probably my favorite haircut I've ever had. For my invisible eyelash and eyebrow situation I have also gone to see Emilee several times and she gave me exactly what I was looking for on the first visit. I called to get it but also wanted a break down in costs. According to their website prices, I was being charged $10 too much. The gal on the phone was very impatient, not helpful and turned rude. I wasn't trying to be difficult. I just wanted to understand my charges since I had extras tacked on that I didn't know cost extra. My last place didn't charge like that. I said I wanted to hold off on the next appt. until I understood the pricing. She curtly said, "fine, I'll cancel them". And bam, that was that. I even had to call back AGAIN to get a receipt because she still hadn't emailed it to me. I think they have some great gals working there but I'll have to take my business elsewhere. I followed my stylist, Mary Ann, here from her previous salon. She does an incredible job with complicated cuts, like my asymmetrical bob. She's a great listener and knows exactly what I need when I bring in pictures or say things like "can you make this more edgy looking... and the taper more pointy?" I always get a ton of compliments on my hair after I'm in her chair. This was my first visit to 501 and I was impressed with the salon. Clean, modern, and fun without that stuffy spa feeling that you might get at chain establishments. Good price points too. I'll admit that this partially a mess up on my end, but I lost a ($125) gift card I received to this place. I found it and noticed there was an expiration date listed. Of course, when I found the gift card it was beyond that date. Well I had called and asked if I'd still be able to use it. I was then instructed to send an email. 2 days later I received a response telling me no because their "system doesn't read beyond the expiration date", and they offered a 10% discount. Hope they enjoyed that super profit they made. It should also honestly be illegal for gift cards to expire considering gift cards are essentially like a bank. read more

For a spa this one is a little uninviting. It is a combination of a very old facility and the unconnectedness of the staff. Massages and facials are done upstairs and you need to be an athlete to handle those stairs. The first thing you encounter when you walk in is someone saying "please sign in, please wash your hands and wait here". I am not a big fan. There is just no ambience at this place! I have had multiple services there to include haircuts, massages and facials. So if it's this bad you ask why did I go because it's right around the corner from where I live, we just moved here and it was the dead of winter so out of convenience I tried to like it. I will be totally honest, I started coming here purely out of convenience as I live a block away. I am in LOVE with the historic building, they have restored and renovated in a way that shows off its beauty while letting the old bones show through. The massage/facial area upstairs is a great example with the beautiful (and looks like original) flooring. My favorite area is the mani/pedi room in the back, the pops of gold are so beautiful. Now that said, I have *never* gotten a manicure to last so long before. Kim and Clara do an excellent job, my nails last forever. My nails looks so much healthier now, I was so embarrassed of my hands before. Jordan has been doing my hair for almost a year and picked up right away on what I like and what my goals were with my former stylist before I moved. She always explains what to expect and asks for my input before we get started. I most recently had my eyebrows waxed and tinted with Kat, but I've also seen Al and Emma. All three were amazing. I was definitely nervous to try somewhere new, but I have been really satisfied. I saw Al for a plant peel facial and it was an amazing experience. She made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. The spa room was so warm and cozy. Having had the best massage of my life a few weeks ago I introduced my mom to this little gem for manis and massages last week. Joy is fabulous at her craft and wins the massage therapist award in my book. She takes time to find out what your goal is for your massage and anything you love/hate. At $60-80 for a 50-60 minute massage (depending on which massage you choose) these massages are a steal. Salon 501 offers the quality and natural products and philosophy that you can expect from aveda. My only complaint is parking as the salon does not have its own designated area but there is street parking and it's not a bad area for a little walk! read more

I could write about the multiple perfect and problem-free visits I have made to this beautiful salon, but I'd rather write about the time things went sideways. I decided to take the plunge and go for a purple balayage; this was quite the undertaking as my hair was very dark brown and virgin. What I didn't understand during the first 3-hour session was that I was not going to be able to get the rich purple color I dreamed of in one session. When I left that night, with rose-pink hair, I was so disappointed and upset. I didn't know if it was my failure to communicate or if the salon wasn't clear with me. After every visit they send out a quick questionnaire about the services given and I was completely honest in my review. I was contacted my management within 24 hours and a week later my hair was fixed and GORGEOUS!!! Like I said, it's great when you have a perfect experience with a business where everything goes smoothly. But I think how an establishment takes care of their customers when issues arise speaks volumes. I appreciated how I was treated during the first visit and the follow-up visit. I had a really great experience here, and was so glad it all lived up to the hype. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted, and the host offered to take my jacket. I was offered a drink, while I waited the 15 minutes for my appointment time. I already had a drink with me, so I declined, but I saw other drinking water and coffee, and I think they supply tea as well. After discussing how I wanted my hair cut, as it had been about a year, and grew out a lot ... Ashly gave me a quick but nice neck and shoulder rub with a pleasant smelling oil. She then washed my hair, telling me about the products that would be good for my time of hair. She told me what products she used, and others that she recommended. I also told her how I was going to be dying my hair soon and she explained how to make sure it comes out right with red hair and using red dye. A whole bunch of awesome tips! Including that my hair will grow faster if I come in for a trim about every 4 months or so. All in all with a wash, cut, and blow dry it and a generous tip it was $60. Review I typically only leave positive reviews for businesses because I understand these days businesses are just doing their best. But I feel compelled to leave an honest review about this establishment based on my experience today. I wish I could truly summarize my disappointment in a review, but I'll just give an account of what happened. I've been going to this business for years to get my eyebrows shaped and tinted. I've always been happy with the experience. I normally schedule on my way home while I have childcare. Today I arrived with my one year old and two year old, both playing very quietly on their silent kindles while we waited for my aesthetician to come get me. Instead of being greeted by the aesthetician, the manager came upstairs and told me she needed me to leave because there were massages going on and she couldn't risk disruption by my kids. Despite my kids being extremely well behaved in public, and especially in the situation. I asked her what alternatives she could offer, and she wasn't able to provide any except for a quick wax downstairs in the hair salon which she said "wouldn't be the same experience" and was encouraging me to reschedule. She also said she couldn't offer the tinting portion of my scheduled service. There was very little to no effort made to help me find an alternative so that I could get my scheduled service (and I let her know I am leaving for vacation the next day). I left heartbroken and in tears, and I made sure she understood that this was disgraceful and disappointing to moms everywhere. Us Moms are just doing our best, and I can understand being asked to leave if my kids were rowdy. But they were sitting very quiet and patient. I was rejected and turned away without prior warning to not being kids to my appointment and without any reason other than the "risk" of disruption. It goes without saying I will not be coming back to this place, and I strongly recommend other moms find another place for their styling and waxing services. Not a kid friendly or mom friendly place. Very disappointing the way they treated me as a mother, rejecting me without any calls or warning. read more
