Quality of the work was pretty good for a BBQ island we got done, but communication was absolutely terrible with their sales person. They were chasing down payment when the job was not complete, the last day they were here left the final BBQ island and area including garden full of masonry dust, rubble all over our garden, ruined all of our chair covers and it seems they did not seal the tavertine which stained right away on first use. Could of been 5 star review but the comms and the professionalism at the end was seriously lacking. read more

I have to agree with Eva F. The only thing 5 star did on time was cash our checks! We only ask for a timeline on when the workers were coming. No rush just let us know. We have dogs that we need to secure before the workers arrive. We were told by Blanca, "the workers will be there on Weds". Weds comes, it's 10AM, no calls, no one. We call the office, "the workers are on their way!". It is now 12 noon, we call the office again, we will be there at 1PM. Well, no one every showed up that day. Then we were told Thurs, no show, then Friday, nope, no show. Finally the workers show up Monday at 7:30AM!! A phone call would have been nice. Brien the sales guy was even worst. I called him to complain about the lack of communication and the first thing he tells me is that they are very busy and I can take my business elsewhere. How's that for customer service! Any time Brien promises you something, don't believe him! He will never call back, email back or text. He has been saying he will send us a name of a pool starter person, still waiting. It's too the point now that if Brien does follow through we would be shocked. Once the workers arrived, the work was good, we just never knew when they were going to show up. The last 7 weeks was so stressful. We had to work around their schedule and stayed home waiting for them never to show up. After 7 weeks, the job is finally done. HOWEVER, they plastered, started the water and said "bye!" Gave us a one page dirty instruction sheet. Then Brien promises to email us the name of a starter company again. Tells us we would be crazy to start the pool by ourselves. He says that it is illegal for them to start pools. Is that true or is that another load of *****? It has been 4 days and still no starter company name. We don't know what to do and we are also told if we start the pool wrong we will negate the warranty. Wonderful. read more

We had our entire backyard redone and the team at 5 star did an outstanding job. I interviewed a number of pool contractors but because we were doing so much more than just putting a pool in we preferred to have someone that could do it all - pool, hardscape, landscape, built in BBQ, Arbors, etc at a reasonable price. We choose to work with 5star for this reason and were happy we did. Every crew that came out were 5 star employees - they were not contractors! We even had a flaw in our design that someone had created for us and Concho was able to make recommendations that were better than what the design had laid out. 2 months after the project was over we had an issue with our ceiling fan they installed and they came out to fix it. Unfortunately it was a bad fan so we need to replace it and they are coming out this spring to hang the new one for us as well as replace some of the plants that didn't make it. Overall we are very pleased with the backyard the service we received. We highly recommend them. read more

Chris did a fantastic job for me on my pool in Brentwood. I interviewed four different pool companies for my house in Brentwood, and Chris came with great references, and a clean record with the BBB. He lived up to his name, as he definitely performed as a Five-Star company should. Recently I had a relative visiting from out of state, who is a pool contractor, and he could not believe that Chris re-plastered my pool and re-did the tile work for the price he charged, without cutting any corners. The work of his specialized crews exceeds all expectations. They are fast and perform the ultimate in quality and look. We had our pool redone and the pool deck redone in travertine. Concha suggested travertine at the home entrance and travertine pillars. The look has exceeded our wildest expectations. We had nine bidders. Not only was 5 Star fast and of the highest quality, they also were the best price. We added new lights in the pool and new pool fixtures, all of this work done at cost. Last year I hired 5 Star Pool, to remodel my pool of 23 years. I chose 5 Star Pool because they had comparable ratings to other pool companies on Angie's list and their price was in the middle of the estimates I received. The main reason was their salesperson was the only one to call to follow up. The whole project took about 2 months so I wasn't really able to use the pool last summer. Sometimes, they wouldn't show up for days, and only came out after I called. They didn't haul all the debris from the demolition and I was picking up the workers empty soda containers and foil from lunches they left laying around the yard. When they said they were complete, the stairs to the spa were not completed properly. There were big gaps between the cement stairs and the pool tile. I made the mistake of believing they would fix this as was stated by the foreman. A week after they finished, a large crack developed near the spa stairs that went completely through the cement, it was not a surface crack. I called numerous times and finally Chris came out and basically blew me off. A number of months ago I noticed other cracks in the area where they installed an auto fill. Concho finally came out after numerous phone calls, and finally agreed to replace the 2 sections of concrete with the cracks, the one by the spa and the other by the auto refill. Again, they never called to schedule the work. In the mean time a big chunk of the coping fell off and into the pool, the coping is lifting and cracking in other places too. There are other areas where it is cracking and look like they will be large cracks in a month or so. I had a friend look at the stairs and the area around the spa and it's pulling away from the tile and is sinking. The spa area is the main reason I was having the pool redone. I expressed my concern to both the salesman and the foreman about the area around the spa, that it would probably need some kind of pier or footing because the area had sunk. Obviously, no one paid attention. They finally came out about 2 weeks ago and started replacing the sections we had agreed on. I spoke with the concrete foreman and he said the owner would be by later that day to discuss the issue. I didn't want them to do everything at one time and not in pieces. When they started pulling up the concrete, it was wet underneath and the area under the coping was all wet (behind the tiles). The workers started tearing out the stairs around the spa. They finished working that day and haven't been back in 10 days. They also managed to get broken cement in the pool that I can't get out with the skimming net. I don't know what they did or didn't do, but all the cement around the pool has dropped (sunk) about a 16th of an inch and the area around the spa and the pool need to be re-poured. I keep calling and asking to have an owner come out and I only get told they are tied up on other jobs or are on vacation. My next steps in the next 2 weeks is to file a compliant with the Better Business Bureau and to get estimates to repair the issues. I will then be taking 5 Star Pool to court. I have no doubt I will win. A pool and concrete should last more than a year (or a week in regards to the first crack) read more

Five Star has an incredible team of people - we did a massive backyard remodel (added hot tub, resurfaced and re-shaped a very dated pool, new hardscaping (patio and retaining wall), and new landscaping), and Concho's crew handled every single aspect. It was so nice to not have to worry about sub-contractors and the logistics of coordinating the entire project. I found everyone involved in the process passionate about their work, and they all did exceptional jobs. Everyone was very approachable and worked with us to get us the end result we wanted! The pool and spa was finished in Dec 2014. 5 Star did an excellent job, however, I have glass tile popping off my spa which needs to be repaired. So far I have been waiting 2 mos for someone from repairs to call me and come out and tell me what the problem is. Hopefull the repairs will be made soon. read more

Had 5 Star Pools build my spa and pool. I am regretting that I ever did choose them over the other pool company I was thinking of using. The owner rarely comes out to the job and takes sometimes 3-4 days to get a call back. My pool was pebbled plastered with the wrong mixture, they used different types of coping around the spa than they did with the pool. When they replaced the coping, the workers mistakenly put back some of the wrong coping pieces. In addition, they broke many of the tiles around the spa while trying to fix their mistake. Instead of replacing the tiles, they put grout over it. Furthermore, they wanted to be paid in full before they fixed any of the issues. They stated that my pool is finished, and that the mistakes they made (according to the owner, amount to over $9700) fall under warranty work; which will be fixed after payment is made in full. The owner said that if I don't pay him, he will put a mechanics lien on my house and take me to court. I recommend that you don't use this company! read more

I dont even want to give them a star. My pool has been leaking and they will not.fix it. They replastered n i thought they would fix problems. All they have done is tell me that it.is not thier fault that the pool is settling and they are not responsible. Well if you replaster a pool and.then it leaks that is pretty shotty workmanship. We had our pool re done last July of 2014 and I held back on doing a review to see if there would be any problems and how they would handle them. Unfortunately I cannot say we are satisfied at all. It started out amazing, they finished fast and were very nice to my husband and I. However earlier this year about April or May I began calling them because our pool deck (stamped concrete) has minor cracks and our coping (travertine tile) is cracking and breaking apart on one side. I had hoped they would have everything fixed by summer but after many calls I was barely able to get them to even come look at it. Now it has been two weeks since they came to look at it and I can't even get them to call me on a resolution. I suppose I will have to go to the Better Business Bureau at this point. They not only repaired defective work but replaced it. Customer service was excellent and they continue to follow up from the job this last year. Great company. In an industry filled with bad contractors, 5 star pool plastering is clearly the best choice. I interviewed and got estimates from 5 companies. Several of the companies didn't show for appointments or when they did show did not follow through and provide an estimate. The ones that actually were able to get me an estimate, were far higher in pricing then 5 Star Pool Plastering. I felt the most comfortable with the salesman from 5 star Luis. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. I approved them Monday 7/28 at 6:30pm, they were out the next day 7/29 and did the full prep and then came back the following day 7/30 and did the plaster. Within 48 hours i have my pool plastered and its being filled with water as we speak. It looks great and i cannot wait to use it. If you are looking for pool plastering companies, do yourself a favor and don't waste time on the other companies unless you enjoy chasing them down for estimates and constantly following up on them. Last year we had our pool re-plastered by 5 star pools and we're sold the pebble-Tec finish which was supposed to be both more visually appealing and more durable than standard plaster. On completion of the job there was a patch at the deep end of the pool that appeared to not be fully coated with the new finish. When mentioned to the workers they acknowledged the uneven finish and proceeded to pour what they told me was "acid" down a hose to "even it out." When they were done it looked reasonable but not worth the $20,000+ that we had spent for the remodel. Within a few weeks the finish in that area of the pool become blotchy and uneven again and as time went on, other areas of the pool began to also look this way. We can run our hand over a few spots in the shallow end and the spots have a rough texture that appears to be pool finish that is not adhering properly. When called, the company has taken days and even weeks to return calls and then has made appointments to come see the pool that no one shows up to. The one person who finally showed up stated that it was a discoloration due to calcium deposits rather than a disintegration of the pool finish even though there is an obvious texture difference and we have had a pool guy keeping our chemicals balanced and confirmation from the local Leslie's pool supply that the water balance is perfect. Upon further attempts to settle this matter we were told that the company would be busy until sometime in mid-October but that they would fix it then. It is now an entire year since our original job was completed and we continue to have our phone calls and emails ignored. It saddens me think that we will be making paying off our loan for this job for years to come without having a satisfactory completion to the project. We will contacting the BBB and the contractor's board this week to submit a claim in hopes of both getting them to fix our job and informing others of their despicable business practices. read more

We had our plaster pool completely re-done two summers ago in June for our daughters wedding. A neighbor had had work done and was very happy with them. We called in late April and it was completed in June for the wedding. From the quote, to the design,to their recommendations on features to include we couldn't be happier. The work was excellent. Their crews were a pleasure to work with. They were very competitive and kept in contact throughout the work.What else could you ask for? Well at the end of the second summer there was some repair to the deck and the coping around the pool. This was due to settling or earth movement not Five Star. I called Liz and Louis and explained what had happened. They sent someone the next day to examine the damage. They then had a crew come out and repaired everything to my satisfaction. The pool is beautiful and will give us years of enjoyment thanks to Five Star. I highly recommend them if you need any type of pool work. They earn their reputation. read more

5 Star refinished my pool and the quality of their refinishing and masonary work was excellent. Unfortunately, the good folks at 5-Star have been unwilling to finish the job, failing to install any pipe fittings in the pool and spa, and subsequent to their work, the spa has no circulation pressure as it appears they may have clogged a return line with plaster. I had to purchase a new pool cleaner fitting and install it myself as they failed to keep the old part during the remodel, and of course never showed up to fix anything. Multiple phone calls with the owner (Chris, nice enough guy) have been unsuccessful as all commitments to fix the problems have not been kept, with zero follow up from them. The owner committed to come out and personally inspect their work and resolve all outstanding issues (I would have expected some level of quality control inspection to be a normal operating procedure, but seems to be an exeption with 5-Star). While in fairness, I'm quite pleased with the pool finish and masonary work done by 5-Star, their attention to detail and customer support is pitiful. I highly recommend if you use them, to hold back at least 15-20% of the contract value as retention to guarantee they will be there to follow up and do the job right. Otherwise, you'll be left hiring another pool contractor to finish their work, just as I've done. read more
