Bentos were ordered a couple of days prior, on a weekend, which they were able to accommodate me. They patiently explained different bento selections since I had not ordered vegetarian before & prices, then confirmed they could deliver, which was such a relief. On the day of the meeting, I was worried we would not have enough bentos, so I ordered a few more and they gladly accommodated my request. They delivered on time and had all the utensils requested. The best place in the big island! We were on the big island for just two days and we've been here both days for snacks and food. If you are a fan of Asian food this is a must try! We had their loco moco and popstickers the first day and their pre-prepared mixed dishes the second day and various snacks, and everything was exceptional, much much better than any other Yelp highly reviewed places, and the staff are the nicest too, they give you recommendations and help you to rush the food order without you asking. When you enter the building, towards your right you'll find a select full of ramen. They have the well known spicy ramen, black bean noodles, and a well known noodle called "chapagetti" which was a dish that was featured in a movie called "Parasite". My visit here today was great! The service here is excellent as they were all welcoming, the lady in the front greeted me, she was polite. I grabbed myself a pack of chapagetti, a razzelberry peace tea from the freezer, and ordered their spicy pork from the menu. The girl who took my order was super polite, and courteous! They have limited amount of seating if you're waiting for your order (3 seats). It got pretty packed that time, so there were a lot of people waiting for their orders. It took a good time for my order to come out, but it was worth it!! I was ready to give up on ever finding decent korean food. I've tried them all, Kalbi express, cam cam, Aunt yongs, etc. All unimpressive and forgettable. Like I would have to force myself to want to go back to any of those places. The prices ridiculous and the food uninspired. I mention this because 5 spice has restored my faith in finding better restaurants with more value for your buck. I mean. The meat jun was delicious. All of their sauces that accompanied the respective orders matched perfectly and exactly how I like them. Vinagery sauce for mandoo, sweet sauce for meat jun, and the lemon chicken sauce was good as well. My only complaint would be the lemon chicken was pretty average. It wasnt dry or chewy like other disappointing places, in fact the chicken was quite moist and tender which is great, my gripe is with the breading. It's too hard and crunchy like its breaded in cornmeal. Not that i think it actually is but long story short, it could be better. I personally like when lemon chicken or orange chicken is breaded with the cornstarch style. I understand it's more cost effective to cook chicken katsu 1 way and just change the sauces but it is what it is. Katsu with lemon sauce. It's not bad, just could be better. They mac salad was good. Which is a relief because so far Hilo has a bad rep for me with mac salad. Cafe 100 being the biggest culprit. Its enidible and their rice, barf. 5-spice mac salads a solid 7/10. If you want the best mac salad, you got to try bite the eyes mac salad and sushi rice. O.k so for my first encounter with 5 spice, I am very pleased and will definently be back. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Sometimes I act a bit difficult just to see the workers attitudes, but they were very professional so A+ for the staff. All in all, I would recommend giving them a shot, the menu is diverse so I'm sure its hit or miss on some items but I have confidence the quality will be the same through the entire menu, so give it a shot. Located in the same building housing Sack N Save, just around the corner is this inconspicuous little crack seed shop my Uncle recommended we try since he just loves what he calls their plantation style bento. I don't know what a plantation style bento is, so I'm just assuming it's something you can take with you anywhere and eat. Perhaps good for the beach or to take along for a trip to Volcano. Anyways, there's a very nice selection of crack seed goodies lining one side of the store and it's a pretty vast selection. I'm not really a fan of crack seed so came here specifically for the bento. It was lovingly prepared by two Korean aunties and it's assembled (meaning the foods already cooked) to order. I forgot how much it cost but it was like eating Korean okazu.
