Possibly the BEST restaurant I've ever had the privilege of dining in (including all the highly rated spots I've eaten at over the globe). To be here, I felt as though it was more as an honored guest, than as a simple customer - if I had a posh friend who invited me for dinner, whose (equally posh) parents lived in the Welsh countryside in a historic farm house and knew how to cook and entertain EXTREMELY well, this is it. STAFF - Everyone, including Chef Hugh was surprisingly humble, informative and an extreme pleasure to chat with. AMBIANCE Traditional farmhouse exterior with extensive lands; contemporary interior, an aesthetic one might find in a higher end flat in central London - all with captivating artwork and well-placed area lightning to match. Within minutes of arrival, you're invited into the parlor (poshly adorned but tasteful living/waiting area) for whatever libation your heart desires. Including the most amazing hors 'oeuvres your tongue has ever had the brief opportunity of supporting. After the roughly 20-30 minute downtime/relaxation period, you're invited into an immense, but cooly intimate dining area. View through French doors reveal the fountain, gardens, lands and 300+ year old tree lined driveway. Had we not had a hungry toddler with us we would, at this stage, have turned round - there were around 10 tables inside of which only one was occupied - NONE of the outdoor tables were taken. Not a good sign on a bank-holiday weekend. We were told to take our own menus and pick a table Service was perfunctory but food arrived swiftly and was fresh and, for what it was, tasty. Portion sizes were good. Gamon was moist and well-cooked. Lasagne appeared to live up to the claim that it was home-made and the huge plate of pasta served from the children's menu was enough to tempt our little one from his doldrums. Carbonated drinks were served from cans which was less than attractive but possibly better value than soda machines! The menu was varied and offered many pub style favorites. It certainly wasn't gourmet dining but was certainly acceptable for lunch. Toilet facilites were clean. Inside is not wheelchair accessible as there are a couple of steps but you could dine outside (and there is gazebo cover). Piped music provided the atmosphere although it was a radio station that was being played which was slightly odd. If the atmosphere could be improved then this has potential to be highly recommended as a family dining place. As it is it's just acceptable.

Dylan's is in a beautiful location directly on the water, and the atmosphere is elegant but relaxed. There's lots of inexpensive public parking at the nearby beach, so there's no need to worry about finding a place to park. The first night, I ordered the crispy sea bass tacos, and the quality of the sea bass was sensational. The next night, I had the herb and parmesan crusted hake fillet, which if anything was even more delicious. The hake was possibly the best fish I've ever eaten, and the creamy mustard leeks were spectacular. After a lot of heavy pub food while traveling in Wales, the light and refined food at Dylan's was a welcome change. The only thing that I didn't like quite as much was the dessert: I ordered the cinnamon churros, and while they were by no means bad, they just didn't wow me the way the rest of the meal had. Our servers both evening were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I also appreciated that Dylan's is open until 11:00 p.m., as many of the restaurants we ate at in Wales closed considerably earlier. If you're in Criccieth, I'd certainly recommend Dylan's!
