We visited Five Degrees West over the August Bank Holiday for an evening meal and to introduce our friends to Abersoch dining.
At first it seemed like they had no idea of our booking. This was resolved however, but even though the restaurant was only a quarter full, we were made to wait some time before being seated. No apology was made for this.
To begin with we had to request that the front door be closed as people and children were in and out a lot and the draft and noise was annoying. This was done, once, but there was a lot of coming and going still.
Most of the food was OK, but was nothing special. Our friends complained to the waiter about their main not tasting very good. The waiter didn't say anything and walked away. Later, the point was raised again, and the waiter simply said that the chef had been told. No apologies or seemingly any care!
When myself and my friend went up to pay at the end, the staff member simply took our money and didn't ask if we'd enjoyed the meal etc. I went looking for someone in charge but couldn't see anyone (the waiters hadn't been very attentive all night either, and hadn't been around very much). In the end we gave up and came away.
In summary, the food was dissapointing and not cheap. The staff were bordering on rude, and the place seemed very disorganised. At no point were we made to feel welcomed. There are lots of children and people from the adjacent holiday homes milling about, and it felt that they were catered for foremost, while we were an afterthought. The toilets are also not the cleanest i've seen.
It did not leave our friends with a good impression of Abersoch dining, and we will not be returning. read more
