********** If I could issue 10 stars, I would - gladly…read more Which leads me to ponder how on Earth did they manage to lose their Michelin Star rating a few years back? Possibly the BEST restaurant I've ever had the privilege of dining in (including all the highly rated spots I've eaten at over the globe). To be here, I felt as though it was more as an honored guest, than as a simple customer - if I had a posh friend who invited me for dinner, whose (equally posh) parents lived in the Welsh countryside in a historic farm house and knew how to cook and entertain EXTREMELY well, this is it. And yet, for such an incredibly well-designed operation, is surprisingly and overtly unpretentious. STAFF - Everyone, including Chef Hugh was surprisingly humble, informative and an extreme pleasure to chat with. AMBIANCE Traditional farmhouse exterior with extensive lands; contemporary interior, an aesthetic one might find in a higher end flat in central London - all with captivating artwork and well-placed area lightning to match. Within minutes of arrival, you're invited into the parlor (poshly adorned but tasteful living/waiting area) for whatever libation your heart desires. Including the most amazing hors 'oeuvres your tongue has ever had the brief opportunity of supporting. After the roughly 20-30 minute downtime/relaxation period, you're invited into an immense, but cooly intimate dining area. View through French doors reveal the fountain, gardens, lands and 300+ year old tree lined driveway. In addition to this, on warmer nights, one can imbibe cocktails under the roof covered patio which surrounds the main house. FOOD Everything is sourced locally, has its own herb farm, and though I don't know for sure, many if not most of the vegetables are likely grown within 50 yards of the kitchen (I snuck a peak at their immense greenhouse and gardens). The continued nouvelle Welsh strategy and cultural insights make perfect sense; prepared with the upmost intellect and sensorial creativity; albeit not pushy, arrogant nor taking away from the soul and core of its Welsh roots. Honestly, if you want to be treated like a diplomat at a head of state dinner party, this is the only place I've been to that possesses such an overwhelming intimate and professionally executed dining experience. I really can't say enough good things about Plas Bodegroes. It really makes me want to delete a star off all the 5 stars places I've rated to date. I found it that memorable.

Looking for somewhere to eat with a toddler in tow is never an easy thing. Take away the usual…read moresupects (McD's etc) and you're left with restaurants that might frown upon a bit of noise or maybe not offer a child-friendly menu and pubs which may or may not be suitable for children. We almost missed The Barn, hidden up a side street between the Rail station/bus terminus and what appears to be the main shopping street. Hidden behind a rather unattractive 6 foot wooden fence is the outside seating area with a bar/cafe servery. Going through he doors to inside you feel like you're going into a pub only there is no bar. Had we not had a hungry toddler with us we would, at this stage, have turned round - there were around 10 tables inside of which only one was occupied - NONE of the outdoor tables were taken. Not a good sign on a bank-holiday weekend. We were told to take our own menus and pick a table Service was perfunctory but food arrived swiftly and was fresh and, for what it was, tasty. Portion sizes were good. Gamon was moist and well-cooked. Lasagne appeared to live up to the claim that it was home-made and the huge plate of pasta served from the children's menu was enough to tempt our little one from his doldrums. Carbonated drinks were served from cans which was less than attractive but possibly better value than soda machines! The menu was varied and offered many pub style favorites. It certainly wasn't gourmet dining but was certainly acceptable for lunch. Toilet facilites were clean. Inside is not wheelchair accessible as there are a couple of steps but you could dine outside (and there is gazebo cover). Piped music provided the atmosphere although it was a radio station that was being played which was slightly odd. If the atmosphere could be improved then this has potential to be highly recommended as a family dining place. As it is it's just acceptable.

Went in there on Sunday afternoon about 6ish for a carvery dinner, we was a bit unsure as was empty…read moreinside but we was greeted by very friendly hosts, we could choose our own table which i like, and drinks served very quickly, the carvery was ready in 10 mins as they dont leave it out all day when there quiet, this is the 1st carvery ive been too where you can serve up your own meat, there was, roast beef, turkey and pork for the meats, then there was yorkshire puddings, stuffing, roast potatoes, colliflour cheese, leeks, mushy peas, roast parsnips, roast carrots, mashed potato, mashed suede and carrot, cant remember what else but it was all cooked nicely, very tasty, with a good choice, it looked very clean to me, the staff was nice and friendly, we really enjoyed it, just a shame they didnt do cabbage as its me favourite greens, Think they should advertise they do carvery till 8 pm, as not many places serve carvery after 4 in this area, Keep up the good work guys, will be going back soon,

We visited Five Degrees West over the August Bank Holiday for an evening meal and to introduce our…read morefriends to Abersoch dining. At first it seemed like they had no idea of our booking. This was resolved however, but even though the restaurant was only a quarter full, we were made to wait some time before being seated. No apology was made for this. To begin with we had to request that the front door be closed as people and children were in and out a lot and the draft and noise was annoying. This was done, once, but there was a lot of coming and going still. Most of the food was OK, but was nothing special. Our friends complained to the waiter about their main not tasting very good. The waiter didn't say anything and walked away. Later, the point was raised again, and the waiter simply said that the chef had been told. No apologies or seemingly any care! When myself and my friend went up to pay at the end, the staff member simply took our money and didn't ask if we'd enjoyed the meal etc. I went looking for someone in charge but couldn't see anyone (the waiters hadn't been very attentive all night either, and hadn't been around very much). In the end we gave up and came away. In summary, the food was dissapointing and not cheap. The staff were bordering on rude, and the place seemed very disorganised. At no point were we made to feel welcomed. There are lots of children and people from the adjacent holiday homes milling about, and it felt that they were catered for foremost, while we were an afterthought. The toilets are also not the cleanest i've seen. It did not leave our friends with a good impression of Abersoch dining, and we will not be returning.
