    The Ferry Inn is a very popular gastropub in an enviable position on the River Teifi. (The views…read moreare fantastic.) It has a cosy bar area, three inside eating areas with river views, two outside eating areas and a terrace to really enjoy the view. They are happy to accommodate diners with dogs (there are also dog-free areas) and it's very child-friendly (there's a children's menu, and some tables seat eight). The menu offers starters at £7.50-£7.95, mains around £18 (except fish and seafood at £24 and steak at £29), desserts at £7.50, as well as a choice of ice creams and sorbets (£3.50-£7.50). They offer a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We chose Sea Bass served with Lemon Parsley Caper Butter, Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Garden Salad with Buckwheat & Broad Beans with Honey Mustard Sauce & New Leaf Microgreens (£24); and the one of the vegetarian options: Glamorgan Crumble a tower of Leeks, Carrot, Breadcrumbs & Mature Cheddar Cheese, Garlic & Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Glebelands Salad, Quinoa, Bean, Vegetable Salad & Fresh Herb White Sauce (£19.95). We followed this with Dark Cherry & Marzipan Bake Vanilla Ice Cream £7.50. Overall, the food was very good, except that the seabass was (disappointingly) over done and therefore falling apart. I always think it's a little odd serving a cold side salad on the side (or in my case underneath) a hot dish, although overall the flavours did work well together. The Glamorgan Crumble was very tasty. Service was a little manic: some staff seemed to run around all evening, and we were served by four different people during the evening. (One was very nice, two were a bit brusque.) They were busy, but we had booked (and were expecting) a table in the downstairs area with a river view, but were shown to a different part of the restaurant area. There were, however, a number of reserved tables which remained empty through the evening, so it seems like they had a few no-shows. Overall we had a nice evening: with two glasses of wine, the bill came to £75 for two, excluding service. It's firmly worth four stars, and of course you're paying for the location, but at these prices, getting the fish right and calmer service would land a five.

I'd been…read moredriving all day with my friend, who was a bit terrified of my driving (it's not as easy as it seems to adjust to driving on the opposite side of the road than you're used to) and we finally make it close to our destination, and decide to stop to eat and get some groceries before we make our way to where we were staying for a few days. Now, I'm vegetarian and have never enjoyed fancy dining of any kind, so as we walk about looking for somewhere to eat...nothing. Places are closed, or their menus just really don't sync with "I've been in a car for eight hours and am not fit to sit in a nice restaurant right now" and I think we are completely out of luck. Then my friend sees this place in the distance. I have had dreams about the burger I had here. Literal, actual dreams as I slept where I got to relive eating the most fantastic vegetarian burger I have had in my life, hands down, after 16 years of being vegetarian. It sounds like I am exaggerating, but after so many years of people offering "vegetarian" food that seemed like they only had a vague idea of things that might be palatable without meat, it was extremely memorable. This happened in May of 2016 and I still tell people about this amazing burger - I think the last time I brought it up was a couple of weeks ago. I hope to someday return to the absolutely gorgeous town of Dolgellau, and to visit this shop at least once more.

Possibly the BEST restaurant I've ever had the privilege of dining in (including all the highly rated spots I've eaten at over the globe). To be here, I felt as though it was more as an honored guest, than as a simple customer - if I had a posh friend who invited me for dinner, whose (equally posh) parents lived in the Welsh countryside in a historic farm house and knew how to cook and entertain EXTREMELY well, this is it. And yet, for such an incredibly well-designed operation, is surprisingly and overtly unpretentious. STAFF - Everyone, including Chef Hugh was surprisingly humble, informative and an extreme pleasure to chat with. AMBIANCE Traditional farmhouse exterior with extensive lands; contemporary interior, an aesthetic one might find in a higher end flat in central London - all with captivating artwork and well-placed area lightning to match. Within minutes of arrival, you're invited into the parlor (poshly adorned but tasteful living/waiting area) for whatever libation your heart desires. Including the most amazing hors 'oeuvres your tongue has ever had the brief opportunity of supporting. After the roughly 20-30 minute downtime/relaxation period, you're invited into an immense, but cooly intimate dining area. View through French doors reveal the fountain, gardens, lands and 300+ year old tree lined driveway. In addition to this, on warmer nights, one can imbibe cocktails under the roof covered patio which surrounds the main house. FOOD Everything is sourced locally, has its own herb farm, and though I don't know for sure, many if not most of the vegetables are likely grown within 50 yards of the kitchen (I snuck a peak at their immense greenhouse and gardens). The continued nouvelle Welsh strategy and cultural insights make perfect sense; prepared with the upmost intellect and sensorial creativity; albeit not pushy, arrogant nor taking away from the soul and core of its Welsh roots. Honestly, if you want to be treated like a diplomat at a head of state dinner party, this is the only place I've been to that possesses such an overwhelming intimate and professionally executed dining experience. I really can't say enough good things about Plas Bodegroes. It really makes me want to delete a star off all the 5 stars places I've rated to date. I found it that memorable.
